A French IUD, the Om-ga, was inserted in 164 women over a 12-month period, with no pregnancies, 2 removals, and 11 expulsions. The Om-ga is designed like an inverted omega, shaped to fit the uterine cavity, and made of an elastic polyolefin polymer. It comes in a rectangular package in a sterile bag. It is pulled back with a plunger by its string to straighten it for insertion, the rectangular "fitter" is removed, and the IUD is inserted with the plunger.
