A method for the colorimetric determination of silicon and phosphorus in fluorinated organic compounds is outlined. After mineralisation of the material by fusion with sodium peroxide, silicon is determined as silicomolybdenum blue and phosphorus as phospho-vanadomolybdate. Mean recoveries of 101.3% (standard deviation 1.64) for silicon and 100.9% (standard deviation 2.02) for phosphorus were obtained.
A method for the determination of iron in solid organic compounds, such as ferrocene and its derivatives, has been developed. Sample weights between 25 and 400 μg were used, the optimum sample size being such as to contain between 10 and 20 μg of iron. All results obtained from the analysis of standard compounds were within ±0.5 % absolute. An indication is given of the utility of working on the small scale in detecting inhomogeneity of materials.

A gravimetric finish has been applied to the semi-micro determination of phosphorus in organic compounds after fusion with sodium peroxide. It has been shown that the precipitate of quinoline phosphomolybdate prepared from 3 mg of phosphorus has the theoretical composition and that, using a special weighing technique, very precise results can be obtained. Two other weighing techniques are described which give results satisfactory for semi-micro work.
