The observation of the $Y(4140)$ structure in $B^\pm\rightarrow J/\psi\,\phi K^\pm$ decays produced in $\bar{p} p $ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96~\TeV$ is reported with a statistical significance greater than 5 standard deviations. A fit to the $J/\psi\,\phi$ mass spectrum is performed assuming the presence of a Breit-Wigner resonance. The fit yields a signal of $19^{+6}_{-5}$ resonance events, and resonance mass and width of $4143.4^{+2.9}_{-3.0}(\mathrm{stat})\pm0.6(\mathrm{syst})~\MeVcc$ and $15.3^{+10.4}_{-6.1}(\mathrm{stat})\pm2.5(\mathrm{syst})~\MeVcc$ respectively. The parameters of this resonance-like structure are consistent with values reported from an earlier CDF analysis.
We report on a search for the production of the Higgs boson decaying to two bottom quarks accompanied by two additional quarks. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 4\,\invfb\, of \ppbar\, collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$\,TeV recorded by the CDF II experiment. This search includes twice the integrated luminosity of the previous published result, uses analysis techniques to distinguish jets originating from light flavor quarks and those from gluon radiation, and adds sensitivity to a Higgs boson produced by vector boson fusion. We find no evidence of the Higgs boson and place limits on the Higgs boson production cross section for Higgs boson masses between 100\,\gevcc\, and 150\,\gevcc\, at the 95% confidence level. For a Higgs boson mass of 120\,\gevcc\, the observed (expected) limit is 10.5\,(20.0) times the predicted Standard Model cross section.
The lifetime of the B-c(-) meson is measured using 272 exclusive B-c(-) -> J/psi (-> mu(+) mu(-))pi(-) decays reconstructed in data from proton-antiproton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.7 fb(-1) recorded by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The lifetime of the B-c(-) meson is measured to be tau(B-c(-)) = 0.452 +/- 0.048(stat) +/- 0.027(syst) ps. This is the first measurement of the B-c(-) meson lifetime in a fully reconstructed hadronic channel, and it agrees with previous results and has comparable precision. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.87.011101
The lifetime of the ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ meson is measured using 272 exclusive ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}(\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}){\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays reconstructed in data from proton-antiproton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $6.7\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ recorded by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The lifetime of the ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ meson is measured to be $\ensuremath{\tau}({B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}})=0.452\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.048(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.027(\mathrm{syst})\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ps}$. This is the first measurement of the ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ meson lifetime in a fully reconstructed hadronic channel, and it agrees with previous results and has comparable precision.
We present a measurement of $W$ boson polarization in top-quark decays in $t\bar{t}$ events with decays to dilepton final states using $5.1 {\rm fb^{-1}}$ of integrated luminosity in $p\bar{p}$ collisions collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron. A simultaneous measurement of the fractions of longitudinal ($f_0$) and right-handed ($f_+$) $W$ bosons yields the results $f_0 = 0.71 ^{+0.18}_{-0.17} {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.06 {\rm (syst)}$ and $f_+ = -0.07 \pm 0.09 {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.03 {\rm (syst)}$. Combining this measurement with our previous result based on single lepton final states, we obtain $f_0 = 0.84 \pm 0.09 {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.05 {\rm (syst)}$ and $f_{+} = -0.16 \pm 0.05 {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.04 {\rm (syst)}$. The results are consistent with standard model expectation.
We present a search for new particles in an extension to the standard model that includes a heavy Higgs boson (H(0)), a lighter charged Higgs boson (H(±)), and an even lighter Higgs boson h(0), with decays leading to a W-boson pair and a bottom-antibottom quark pair in the final state. We use events with exactly one lepton, missing transverse momentum, and at least four jets in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb(-1) collected by the CDF II detector in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt[s]= 1.96 TeV. We find the data to be consistent with standard model predictions and report the results in terms of a simplified Higgs-cascade-decay model, setting 95% confidence level upper limits on the product of cross section and branching fraction from 1.3 pb to 15 fb as a function of H(0) and H(±) masses for m(h)(0) = 126 GeV/c(2).
We present a search for the rare radiative decay W+ -> pi(+)gamma using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.3 fb(-1) of proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF experiment at Fermilab. As no statistically significant signal is observed, we set a 95%-confidence- level upper limit on the relative branching fraction Gamma(W+ -> pi(+)gamma)/Gamma(W+ -> e(+) nu) at 6.4 x 10(-5), a factor of 10 improvement over the previous limit.
This paper presents a search for anomalous production of multiple low-energy leptons in association with a W or Z boson using events collected at the CDF experiment corresponding to 5.1 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity. This search is sensitive to a wide range of topologies with low-momentum leptons, including those with the leptons near one another. The observed rates of production of additional electrons and muons are compared with the standard model predictions. No indications of phenomena beyond the standard model are found. A 95% confidence level limit is presented on the production cross section for a benchmark model of supersymmetric hidden-valley Higgs production. Particle identification efficiencies are also provided to enable the calculation of limits on additional models.
A search for a narrow Higgs boson resonance in the diphoton mass spectrum is presented based on data corresponding to 7.0 fb{-1} of integrated luminosity from pp collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV collected by the CDF experiment. No evidence of such a resonance is observed, and upper limits are set on the cross section times branching ratio of the resonant state as a function of Higgs boson mass. The limits are interpreted in the context of the standard model and one fermiophobic benchmark model where the data exclude fermiophobic Higgs bosons with masses below 114 GeV/c{2} at a 95% Bayesian credibility level.
We report a new search for dark matter in a data sample of an integrated luminosity of 7.7 fb-1 of Tevatron pp[over ¯] collisions at √[s]=1.96 TeV, collected by the CDF II detector. We search for production of a dark-matter candidate, D, in association with a single top quark. We consider the hadronic decay mode of the top quark exclusively, yielding a final state of three jets with missing transverse energy. The data are consistent with the standard model; we thus set 95% confidence level upper limits on the cross section of the process pp[over ¯]→t+D as a function of the mass of the dark-matter candidate. The limits are approximately 0.5 pb for a dark-matter particle with mass in the range of 0-150 GeV/c2.
We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson in data collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb(-1). In events consistent with the decay of the Higgs boson to a bottom-quark pair and the Z boson to electron or muon pairs, we set 95% credibility level upper limits on the ZH production cross section times the H→bb branching ratio as a function of Higgs boson mass. At a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV/c(2), we observe (expect) a limit of 7.1 (3.9) times the standard model value.
In this Letter, we present a precise measurement of the total ZZ production cross section in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV, using data collected with the CDF II detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 6 fb(-1). The result is obtained by combining separate measurements in the four-charged (ℓℓℓ' ℓ') and two-charged-lepton and two-neutral-lepton (ℓℓνν) decay modes of the Z boson pair. The combined measured cross section for pp → ZZ is 1.64(-0.38)(+0.44) pb. This is the most precise measurement of the ZZ production cross section in 1.96 TeV pp collisions to date.
We search for high-mass resonances decaying into $Z$ boson pairs using data corresponding to $6\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ collected by the CDF experiment in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$. The search is performed in three distinct final states: $ZZ\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, $ZZ\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\nu}$, and $ZZ\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}jj$. For a Randall-Sundrum graviton ${G}^{*}$, the 95% CL upper limits on the production cross section times branching ratio to $ZZ$, $\ensuremath{\sigma}(p\overline{p}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{G}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}ZZ)$, vary between 0.26 pb and 0.045 pb in the mass range $300<{M}_{{G}^{*}}<1000\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$.
The transverse momentum cross section of e(+)e(-) pairs in the Z-boson mass region of 66-116 GeV/c(2) is precisely measured using Run II data corresponding to 2: 1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The cross section is compared with two quantum chromodynamic calculations. One is a fixed-order perturbative calculation at O(alpha(2)(s)), and the other combines perturbative predictions at high transverse momentum with the gluon resummation formalism at low transverse momentum. Comparisons of the measurement with calculations show reasonable agreement. The measurement is of sufficient precision to allow refinements in the understanding of the transverse momentum distribution.

Using data from proton - anti-proton collisions at the energy Ecm = 1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we present improved measurements of the masses and first measurements of natural widths of the four bottom baryon resonance states Sigma_b+, Sigma_b*+ and Sigma_b-, Sigma_b*-. These states are fully reconstructed in their decay modes to Lambda_b pi+-, where Lambda_b -->Lambda_c+ pi- with Lambda_c+ -->prot K- pi+. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.0/fb collected by an online event selection based on tracks displaced from the proton - anti-proton interaction point.
We combine the results of searches for the standard model Higgs boson based on the full CDF Run II data set obtained from sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV p-pbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45/fb. The searches are conducted for Higgs bosons that are produced in association with a W or Z boson, have masses in the range 90-150 GeV/c^2, and decay into bb pairs. An excess of data is present that is inconsistent with the background prediction at the level of 2.5 standard deviations (the most significant local excess is 2.7 standard deviations).
We report on a study of diffractive dijet production in $\bar{p}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $\bar{p}p$ collider. A data sample from 310 pb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected by triggering on a high transverse energy jet, $E_T^{jet}$, in coincidence with a recoil antiproton detected in a Roman pot spectrometer is used to measure the ratio of single-diffractive to inclusive-dijet event rates as a function of $x^{\bar p}$ of the interacting parton in the antiproton, the Bjorken-$x$, $x^{\bar p}_{Bj}$, and a $Q^2\approx (E_T^{jet})^2$ in the ranges $10^{-3}-4$ GeV$^2$. The $t_{\bar p}$ dependence is measured as a function of $Q^2$ and $x_{Bj}^{\bar p}$ and compared with that of inclusive single diffraction dissociation. We find weak $x^{\bar p}_{Bj}$ and $Q^2$ dependencies in the ratio of single diffractive to inclusive event rates, and no significant $Q^2$ dependence in the diffractive $t_{\bar p}$ distributions.
We report on a measurement of $CP$-violating asymmetries (${A}_{CP}$) in the Cabibbo-suppressed ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays reconstructed in a data sample corresponding to $5.9\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of integrated luminosity collected by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. We use the strong decay ${D}^{*+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production and exploit $CP$-conserving strong $c\overline{c}$ pair production in $p\overline{p}$ collisions. High-statistics samples of Cabibbo-favored ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ decays with and without a ${D}^{*\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ tag are used to correct for instrumental effects and significantly reduce systematic uncertainties. We measure ${A}_{CP}({D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}})=(+0.22\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.24(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.11(\mathrm{syst}))%$ and ${A}_{CP}({D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}})=(\ensuremath{-}0.24\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.22(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.09(\mathrm{syst}))%$, in agreement with $CP$ conservation. These are the most precise determinations from a single experiment to date. Under the assumption of negligible direct $CP$ violation in ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays, the results provide an upper limit to the $CP$-violating asymmetry in ${D}^{0}$ mixing, $|{A}_{CP}^{\mathrm{ind}}({D}^{0})|<0.13%$ at the 90% confidence level.
