Mono and dilithio derivatives of 1,5-bis(dimethylamino)naphthalene were prepared and isolated in crystalline form. They provide access to silanes having two pentacoordinated silicon atoms in the same molecule. The two silicon atoms do not influence each other and reveal an identical behaviour to that of the monosilylated compound concerning the reactivity, the structure and the aptitude for pseudorotation process.

AbstractThe reaction of tris(ethene)nickel (I) (prepared from Ni/toluene cocondensate and ethene) with excess (II) at low temp. yields the paramagnetic title complex (III) as well as (IV).
The paramagnetic complex 1, a sandwich compound containing the nido-2,3,5-tricarbahexaboranyl ligand (isolobal to C5H5), is prepared from tris(ethene)nickel and 2,3-dihydro-1,3-diborole. Its relationship to nickelocene is revealed, for example, by its electorchemical behavior and the ESR spectrum of 1⊙⊕.
