Knowing the degree of alcohol intoxication can be imperative in the decision-making process of diagnoses, treatment and discharge decisions in some situations. Blood testing provides a snapshot of intoxication at the time the sample is drawn but not earlier (e.g., at the time of injury) or later, although information of the latter would be useful in epidemiological comparisons about risk and injury.

AbstractAs the mostly widely used drug on earth, alcohol is overly represented in accidental injuries that are often the subject of forensic examination. This article reviews the relationship between intoxication and different modes of injuries and where there is sufficient data, explores the dose‐dependent relationship between alcohol intoxication and statistical analysis of relative risk for a serious or fatal accident.
