Oriental lily 'Star Queen' was bred by crossing between Oriental lily 'Star Gazer' characterized by a dark pink flower colour and spotted petals and the faint pink Oriental lily 'Marco Polo' in 1997. It was first selected as seedling in 2001. Second and third selection for a range of characteristics (2002-2003) and bulb production (2004-2005) was carried out followed by a test for flower production (2006-2007). The flower has a bright white/pink colour and purple spots. The flower has a medium size, it is semi-upright and with an umbrella shape. Because of short and wide leaves it can be planted at high densities. The natural flowering period was during the last ten days of June, it is an early-medium maturing cultivar, 2 weeks shorter than Oriental lily 'Siberia'. There are no cultivation problems under appropriate standard ventilation, fertilization, water management and weekly disease and insect pest control (leaf blight, aphid).
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of artificially low time/temperature treatments during normal bulb storage at -1.5 degrees C on quality of cut flowers of Oriental hybrid lily. Lily bulbs harvested in autumn were stored for up to 8 months at -1.5 degrees C to study the feasibility of providing quality cut flower production year-round. However, occasional mechanical breakdown problems to conventional low temperature storage rooms can affect quality of bulbs exposed to abnormal low and/or high temperatures that can follow such breakdowns. Bulbs of the oriental hybrid lily 'Casa Blanca' bulbs were exposed to -3, -5, 15, 20 degrees C for 3, 5, 7 d, respectively, on 30 March. and 30 May. The critical threshold duration at given temperatures that affected bulb quality was 7 d at -3 degrees C, 3 d at -5 degrees C, 7 d at 15 degrees C and 5 d at 20 degrees C. Growth and flowering was inversely affected as the duration at these abnormal temperatures increased and growth inhibition, death of plants, and leaf malformation was observed when flowers were forced.
In the result of temperature measure of two low-temperature storage rooms, the average temperature was 0.92 +/- 0.27 in the improved system though it was 1.00 +/- 0.88 in the farm conventional practice, respectively. The cut-flower height at flowering time in the improved system was 119 to 121 cm, though that of the farm conventional practices was 92 to 106 cm. The shoot emergence of bulbs stored for about 8 months per the same storage position (8 positions) of the low-temperature storage room in the improved system was 1.3 to 4.3 cm, though the farm conventional practices was 0.2 to 5.5 cm after I week of defrosting. After two weeks of frosting shoots were 3.6 to 14.6 cm and 6.2 to 8.4 cm, respectively. In the long run, we think that the low-temperature storage room of farm conventional practices will be rapidly replaced with the improved system in Korea.
백합을 노지재배할 경우 'Raizan'과 'Casa Blanca' 품종에서 잎마름병의 발병엽율이 각각 50%, 45.4%인 반면, 비가림 시설재배할 경우는 발병엽율이 1.5%, 1.9%로 현저히 감소하였다. 또한 비가림 시설재배에서 스프링클러 관수시에 잎마름병 발생율이 $14.5{\sim}16.5%$였으나 점적 관수시에는 $1.5{\sim}2%$로 감소하였다. 백합 잎마름병 발생에 미치는 연작의 영향을 조사하였던 바 초작지에 비하여 재작지 및 3년 연작지의 병 발생율이 현저히 높았다. 월동한 병든 식물체의 잎, 줄기, 꼬투리, 종구에서 B. elliptica의 분리비율은 43.3%, 46.7%, 60%, 0%, B. cinerea의 분리비율은 10.3%, 0%, 3.3%, 0%였으며, 두 균 모두 백합의 꼬투리에서 가장 높은 비율로 분리되었다. Raizan 품종을 절화한 후 식물체 잔재물을 방치한 포장에서는 다음 해 최고 56.5%의 발병엽율을 나타낸 반면에 잔재물을 제거한 포장에서는 발병엽율이 7.3%로 매우 낮았다. 노지재배시 흑색비닐, 수피, 볏짚을 이용하여 멀칭재배를 한 경우 잎마름병의 발병엽율이 각각 6.6%, 8.2%, 11.3%로서 비멀칭재배의 발병엽율 21.3%에 비해 현저히 감소하였다. Incidences of leaf blight of lily cultivars Raizan and Casa Blanca in the open field cultivation were 50% and 45.4%, respectively, while those in the green house cultivation were significantly reduced to 1.5% and 1.9%, respectively, In the green house, the incidences of the disease in sprinkler watering cultivation were $14.5{\sim}16.5%$, while those in drip watering cultivation were only $1.5{\sim}2%$. Incidence of the disease was severe in the field where the lily was cultivated successively for 2 to 3 years. Isolation frequencies of B. elliptica from overwintered plant debrises such as leaves, stems, capsules, and bulbs were 43.3%, 46.7%, 60% and 0%, respectively, while those of B. cinerea were 10.3%, 0%, 3.3% and 0%, respectively, Incidence of leaf blight in the field where diseased plant debris was cleaned was 7.3%, while that in the field where diseased plant debris was not cleaned was 56.5%. Incidences of the disease in the field where coverages of soil surface with black vinyl, bark or rice straw were used were 6.6%, 8.2% and 11.3%, respectively, while that in the field where the coverage was not used was 21.3%.
