Background Human listeriosis is a severe foodborne infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes and the data of patients with this infection are largely limited for the Hefei population. Purpose This is a retrospective study that evaluated the clinical and laboratory data of patients with listeriosis at a tertiary hospital in Hefei City. Patients and Methods A total of 24 listeriosis patients were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from January 2003 to July 2021. Data from all patients were collected from the hospital’s electronic medical records. Results The most common symptom of all patients was fever (91.7%), followed by altered consciousness (50.0%), rashes (45.8%), respiratory distress symptoms (37.5%), nuchal rigidity (29.2%), and headaches (20.8%). Laboratory results also indicated elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) (79.1%), hypoproteinemia (75.0%), anemia (62.5%), leukocytosis (45.8%), and neutrophilia (45.8%). The mean value of 5.1 μg/mL (SD, 3.8) for D‐dimer (D‐D) was significantly higher than the normal value ((0.00–0.50) μg/mL), while both altered consciousness (6 vs 4, P = 0.034) and headaches (4 vs 1, P = 0.036) occurred more frequently in the neurolisteriosis group compared with the bacteremia one. Additionally, the mean maximal body temperature (°C) (40.5 ± 0.7) as well as white blood cell (WBC) (15.3 vs 7.5 ×109/L, P = 0.014) and neutrophil (NEUT#) (13.2 vs 6.1 ×109/L, P = 0.026) counts of neurolisteriosis patients were higher than those of bacteremia (39.4 ± 0.4) (P = 0.001). Of all patients, four (50%) from the maternal-neonatal group remained uncured. Conclusion Listeriosis is a rare disease with extremely variable clinical characteristics in Hefei City. Our data indicated that unexplained fever, altered consciousness, hypoproteinemia, anemia, elevated CRP and DD should be considered to assist diagnosis of listeriosis for early treatment interventions.
The transobturator suburethral tape procedure is emerging as a preferred surgical option in the management of stress urinary incontinence. This procedure, also called tension-free vaginal tape transobturator (TVT-O) procedure, has fewer risks of injury to the bladder, similar effectiveness, and shorter surgery duration compared with the older tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure. In this study, we report the case of a female patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus who developed emergency ketoacidosis and severe cellulitis after a TVT-O procedure, which was successfully managed without sling removal and open drainage of abscesses after multi-point puncture drainage, guided by ultrasound and appropriate antibiotic administration. The patient showed appropriate urinary continence with controlled diabetes mellitus 24 months after treatment. In conclusion, cellulitis from the pelvic floor to the associated thigh after TVT-O procedure in a diabetic patient can be managed conservatively if no sling exposure is confirmed. However, these patients should be closely observed and followed up during the perioperative period, especially for synthetic sling use.
Background Abhydrolase domain containing 5 (ABHD5) functions as a tumor suppressor in colorectal and prostate cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the roles of ABHD5 in endometrial cancer. Materials and methods ABHD5 expression was detected in clinical samples by immunohistochemical staining. Cell proliferation and invasion were evaluated with the Cell Counting Kit-8 and Transwell assay, respectively. Western blotting was performed to analyze protein expression. Glucose uptake was assessed by 2-[N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl)amino]-2-deoxyglucose. Lactate production was detected by a lactate assay kit. Results In the present study, ABHD5 was overexpressed in endometrial cancer tissues, and its expression was closely correlated with the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage and lymph node metastasis. In addition, we observed that the knockdown of ABHD5 inhibited cell proliferation, invasion, glucose uptake and lactate production in HEC-1A cells, which expressed high levels of ABHD5. Conversely, the opposite effects were observed when ABHD5 was ectopically expressed in Ishikawa cells, which had low levels of ABHD5. Furthermore, the changes in glycolysis regulators (enolase 1 [ENO1], glucose transporter 1 [GLUT1] and lactate dehydrogenase A [LDHA]) and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition-related proteins (E-cadherin and Snail) in HEC-1A cells with ABHD5 knockdown were consistent with the effects of ABHD5 on glycolysis and cell invasion. Phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) was increased, while the phosphorylated AKT (p-AKT) was decreased when ABHD5 was downregulated. Notably, treatment with the allosteric AKT inhibitor MK-2206 completely abolished the effects caused by ABHD5 overexpression in Ishikawa cells. Finally, ABHD5 knockdown potently suppressed tumor growth in vivo. Conclusion Overall, these results suggest that ABHD5 may play an oncogenic role in endometrial cancer via the AKT pathway.
Background: Systemic inflammation and host immunological nutritional status play important roles in the tumorigenesis of malignant cancer. A novel prognostic inflammation score (PIS) based on preoperative serum albumin and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was designed. We explored its prognostic value in ovarian cancer.Methods: 143 patients with ovarian cancer were enrolled in this retrospective study. The association of the PIS with clinicopathologic parameters was analyzed. The prognostic significance was determined by univariate and multivariate cox survival analyses.Results: Both univariate and multivariate analyses showed that NLR and albumin were independent prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). An inverse correlation was observed between the NLR and serum albumin concentration. The novel prognostic inflammation score (PIS) was shown to be a significant predictor for OS and PFS (both P < 0.001) according to multivariate analysis. Additionally, low PIS was associated with advanced tumor stage (P < 0.001), metastasis (P < 0.001) and preoperative high PLR (P < 0.001).Conclusions: The PIS is a novel but promising prognostic score in ovarian cancer. It is a significant prognostic marker adjusted for clinicopathologic characteristics to further identify patients' survival differences. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
The application of the traditional Camshift algorithm, which exhibits a good tracking performance in case of the obvious color characters, meanwhile, is limited in the target tracking in the color space. A fast tracking algorithm based on gray value distribution and distance kernel space is proposed. A 1.5D gray histogram method is designed to describe the model of moving object, which improves the reduction of computation for the back projection and real-time tracking performance. Moreover, a distance kernel function, describing the object weights, is constructed so as to handle the background disturbance and occlusion problem. Experiment results demonstrate the efficiency of proposed algorithm, that it can achieve a fast object tracking and resist background disturbance in some level.
In order to ensure the accuracy of vehicle tracking in the situation of similar background, the SIFT algorithm is proposed. Meanwhile, the PCA algorithm is used to reduce the dimensionality of SIFT descriptors to improve the system's real-time and a SIFT-Kalman information fusion tracking algorithm based on PCA is set up. The results of experiments showed the proposed algorithm performs well when the object is cluttered.
A novel method for simultaneous determination of impurities of oxygen and nitrogen in NbTi alloy by impulse heating inert gas fusion method was developed (oxygen by infrared determination, and nitrogen by thermal conductivity). The effect of fluxes, heating power and the ratio of sample to flux on determination results were studied. Oxygen and nitrogen in NbTi alloy were determined with analytical power of 5.3 kW and the ratio of sample to flux of 1:20 using nickel as flux. The relative standard deviations (RSD) for oxygen and nitrogen were 3.0% and 5.9%, respectively. The standard addition recoveries for oxygen and nitrogen were 91%-117% and 90%-98%, respectively.

In order to address vulnerability of color histogram to similar background and similar objects, a MeanShift-Particle amalgamative algorithm based on SIFT is set up, which takes advantage of Spatio Histogram and SIFT descriptors. According to the definition of SIFT match rate parameters, traditional particle filter algorithm, SIFT-particle filter algorithm and MeanShift algorithm are amalgamated effectively. The results of experiments showed the proposed amalgamative algorithm performs well when the object is cluttered.
The objective of this study was to determine the better method of myomectomy by comparing laparoscopic and open myomectomy for patients with fibroids with regard to operative parameters and outcomes. A systematic review was performed on published studies identified by the databases PubMed, EMBASE, the China Biological Medicine Datadase (CBMdisc), Ovid and the Cochrane Library, as well as cross-references. Randomized controlled trials on laparoscopic versus open myomectomy were assessed on operative parameters and outcomes. Six studies and 576 patients were studied. Analysis was performed using the statistical software Review Manager Version 4.2. The data available show that laparoscopic myomectomy was associated with less hemoglobin drop, reduced operative blood loss, more patients fully recuperated at day 15, diminished postoperative pain, and fewer overall complications but longer operation time. However, major complications, pregnancy and recurrence were comparable in the two groups. The data show that if performed by suitably specialized surgeons in selected patients, laparoscopic myomectomy is a better choice than open surgery.
