I joined Dechencholing Middle Secondary School based in Thimphu in 2000. I studied till class ten and graduated in 2010 with 83.5 % in exam conducted by the erstwhile Bhutan Board of Examination. I was ranked in first position from my school and also served as a school captain that year. In 2011, I joined Motithang Higher Secondary School also based in Thimphu to study biological science. In 2012, I graduated with 76.5% in Bhutan Higher Secondary Education Certificate and secured a scholarship funded by Government of India to study agriculture science in India. In June 2013, I joined Anand Agricultural University based at Gujarat in India to study agriculture. In May 2017, I graduated in Bachelors of Science in agriculture (Honors) program with first class of distinction grade. In October 2017, I appeared Bhutan Civil Service Examination and was ranked in first position in agriculture category.
Subsequently, I joined Agriculture Research and Development Centre Bajo based at Wangduephodrang in West Central Bhutan in January 2018 as Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition Officer (SFPNO). As a SFPNO, my role is to carry out research and development activities in soil fertility, plant nutrition, and land management programs. Up until now, I have managed to publish a guidebook on fruit cultivation and a journal paper on soil fertility assessment in mandarin orchard. In 2019, 2020 and 2021, I as a principle proponent managed to develop and release for practice in Bhutan three climate smart agriculture technologies such as rice husk biochar, fermented rice bran bio-fertilizer and Bhutan agri-microbial solution technology respectively through Department of Agriculture of the Royal Government of Bhutan.
At the research Centre, I am the focal for the National Organic Flagship Program to promote organic farming and also the focal for Green Climate Fund project through which climate smart agriculture technologies are promoted to the farmers. I am also a hydroponics focal from the center and I was trained for two weeks at Changrai Horticultural Research Station in Thailand. Types of hydroponics system established and are in operation at the center are nutrient film technique, Dutch bucket system, deep water culture, substrate culture and vertical tower system. I am also involved in laboratory analysis of soil samples collected from agriculture fields and had analyzed 250 samples for various parameters such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, pH, soil texture and soil organic carbon.
I have been working as a researcher since January 2018 and recently got promoted to senior research officer in January 2023. I have been mostly involved in generating sustainable soil management and climate smart agriculture technologies in the past five years for promotion of organic farming in Bhutan. During that period, I had the privilege to work with few Japanese agriculture experts namely Yuchi Tomiyasu, Kazuyoshi Yuasa and Sayuri Teramoto through Integrated Horticulture Promotion Project of the Japanese government and also worked under the guidance of climate smart horticulture specialist of Bhutan Mr. Pema Chofil. They were my source of knowledge and wisdom and also my guide in my professional development.
