The design of an offset reflector fed with a phased array that is not in the focal plane is described. By using the phased array, it is possible to scan the pattern of the reflector antenna. The effect of the position of the feed is shown in a few examples and one example of this is given.

Lending and financial institutions have looked for a variety of ways to expand their portfolios into agriculture, but because of the risks associated with lending to farmers who lack traditional forms of collateral, they face price and yield risks, causing these inroads to be limited. Market-based instruments are readily available for price risk. Organised exchanges offering the most basic of these instruments, futures and options, have operated for a long time, providing transparency to the market and low-cost risk transfer tools for those able to access them. Mile the use of price risk management instruments is an incomplete solution, it has sufficient merits on its own and will make the overall burden of risk more bearable. The use of these instruments and multi-peril crop insurance products is expensive and does not provide full protection for financial lending institutions to limit their credit risk exposure. This article determines whether geographic diversification would be sufficient as a risk management tool for lending institutions to limit their credit risk.
We describe briefly the properties of the recently completed Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), along with its first light imager SALTICAM. Using this instrument, we present 4.3 hr of high speed unfiltered photometric observations of the eclipsing polar SDSSJ015543.40+002807.2 with time resolution as short as 112 ms, the highest quality observations of this kind of any polar to date. The system was observed during its high luminosity state. Two accreting poles are clearly seen in the eclipse light curve. The binary system parameters have been constrained: the white dwarf mass is at the low end of the range expected for cataclysmic variables. Correlations between the positions of the accretion regions on or near the surface of the white dwarf and the binary system parameters were established. The sizes of the accretion regions and their relative movement from eclipse to eclipse were estimated: they are typically 4-7 deg depending on the mass of the white dwarf. The potential of these observations will only fully be realised when low state data of the same kind are obtained and the contact phases of the eclipse of the white dwarf are measured.
Meiofauna was sampled using SCUBA along 4 transects from 5 to 30 m depth in Algoa Bay, South Africa. Substrates were well-sorted medium to fine sands with traces of sewage pollution in some areas. Meiofauna numbers recorded in the upper 10 cm of sediment were 55 to 584 10 cm-2, but total numbers, including deeper-living animals, were 680 to 2090 10 cm-2 at 6 stations. Longer cores showed meiofauna to be abundant down to at least 35 cm, and samples of interstitial water taken from this depth in the sediment were 7% saturated with oxygen. This is the first detailed record of meiofauna penetration into sub-littoral sand and stresses the need for long cores for quantitative work. Nematode numbers were found to be significantly related to nitrogen in the sand while interstitial harpacticoid numbers were related to median particle diameters, which determine pore space. Effects of sewage were slight and only one station showed notable enrichment, increased meiofaunal numbers and extreme dominance by nematodes.

Too many companies misperceive the nature of competition and the task before them by predominantly or only focusing on improving financial performance (a necessary but not sufficient outcome anymore), or soliciting government assistance, or s eeking stability and reducing risk through alliances and mergers. The new "bottom line" is mor e refined, more balanced and more complex. The aim of this paper is to define the "ne w" bottom line for winning in terms of agribusinesses in South Africa operating for gains in the new globalising economy and to propose strategies that will improve the winning ab ility of agribusinesses in South Africa. Winning is defined as consistently defeating your c ompetitors successfully in order to achieve sustainable profits and growth. The following opera tional strategies are propose: increased innovation, higher productivity, more flexibility, better quality, increased social responsibility, successful economic empowerment and higher levels o f integrity and ethics especially towards the natural environment.
