Welding quality is one of the main targets of welding automation. Quality of welds has to be planned already in the preparation phase of the production. When developing robot welding automated systems, the geometrical parameters of weld joints have to be precisely measured. To avoid variation of results due to human error, the parameters should be calculated automatically by using digital measuring system. To realize such a service, software support is required. Measuring technology contains following steps: recording digital image, automated image analysis including weld area recognition and measurement of welding quality parameters; saving the data.
The aim of the present paper is to provide a new portable measuring system for fully digital tool wear measurement. To realise such service, program support is required. Measuring technology contains following steps: recording a digital video; transmitting necessary digital still photo shots from digital video tape into computer; decoding of the photo; automated image analysing including separation and measurement of wear land geometrical parameters; saving the data. The system is also suitable for measuring fracture surfaces.
