This work evaluated the use of Industrial Symbiosis (IS), and the importance of partnerships, as base for implementing the Circular Economy. For that purpose, action research was used and the stakeholders were grouped in a project called LABMOB. The study analyzed mainly noble wood and its use in furniture. A questionnaire was developed to propose a possible business model. The main results are the closing of cycles and the recovery, with upcycling, of noble wood and a series of other discarded materials, such as metals, in addition of exclusive products, therefore with high added value was obtained. Other advantages are the formation of a wide network that has a micro (designers), meso (national companies) and macro (international organizations) characters. There is also the achievement of an almost spontaneous process that, although initially parasitic, proved to be disjunctive (mutualistic) in the end. For an adequate business model, one must consider reaching an environmentally aware public with good purchasing power, which makes the figure of the designer extremely important. The use of noble wood in such conditions is still scarce, being common only its disposal through burning, to obtain energy.
This work describes the design, manufacturing and testing of a detection system useful to be applied with microTAS or other compact equipment, such as those needed for Process Intensification in Chemical Engineering. The detection is carried out by a Quartz Microbalance (QCM), based on Piezoelectric Quartz Crystals (PQC) of multiple frequencies, from tens of kHz to almost GHz. With this instrument, it is possible to detect particles and droplets in a gaseous flow, as well as vapors of volatile organic compounds. The system allows simultaneous measurement at five different points, and due to its modularity, such points can be positioned several centimeters apart from each other. The use in teaching is favored not only because of its low cost and modularity, and also due to its portability, i.e., its small size.
In order to develop studies on sustainability in food preparation processes, this work aims to obtain a sustainable diagram for production processes in a commercial restaurant, using concepts of Industrial Ecology (IE), Cleaner Production (CP) and Circular Economy (CE). It was a Case Study with three important steps: Analysis of flows of production processes and their interactions in the light of the IE&CE concept; optimizing processes according to CP principles and adding value to the co-products obtained. Without any intervention, approximately 15% of all restaurants raw material was discharged; however, if closed cycle is attempted, almost everything can be recycled. While all types of packaging could be recycled, organic matter can be properly destined, at least for composting. This approach also has a very great social impact, which means sustainability is also largely improved.
This work aimed the conception, manufacturing and testing of planar miniaturized structures useful for mixing. These structures were designed to manage heavily contaminated liquid samples, i.e. particulate material, and/or to mix flows even if flow rate ratio is 1:10. The structures were manufactured in acrylics, which lower the cost without compromising the good chemical resistance. A good performance can be achieved on flow rates among 30–60 ml/min and continuous flow. Another possible use for these devices is droplet formation.
The possibility of greater control over processes, with the increasing use of sensors, leads to the generation of a large amount of data and, consequently, inherent difficulties, also need care. Storage, processing, filtering, become more difficult and the use of cloud computing can be a solution, however, the cloud computing technology also has limitations regarding latency and availability that can be mitigated with the use of an intermediate layer, called fog computing. As the structuring of the fog computing layer is not yet standardized, one of the possibilities is the application of an enterprise service bus (ESB), a structure based on the availability and interconnection of targeted services, for processing, filtering or storage. From an ESB structure such as fog computing, proofs of concept were developed to validate the technology, the first proof of concept being an environment, whose temperature must be controlled, with distributed sensors and their values received, processed and stored by services in the ESB and the second proof of concept, based on soil contaminant data, obtained by sensors and made available in the literature, for which filtering and processing services, on the same bus, were used. The study presents, in its results, the applicability of the fog computing layer, minimizing the limitations of cloud computing.
O setor eletroeletrônico caracteriza-se pela rápida taxa de mudança, grande competitividade e necessidade de produção rápida. Este também é o caso da área de produção de placas de circuito impresso. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi mapear as dificuldades e limitações em relação à demanda, processos produtivos e características da placa de circuito impresso que impactam no planejamento da linha de produção. A metodologia utilizada foi o estudo de caso. Para tanto, mapeou-se a situação da linha de produção bem como as características da placa de circuito impresso que são relevantes no planejamento. Os dados obtidos indicam para o balanceamento de linha como uma solução para otimização do planejamento de produção. Portanto, na etapa final um processo modificado, e informalmente denominado Processo Micropress pelos colaboradores, mostrou-se eficiente para otimização de recursos materiais, incluindo tempo, e facilitador a atuação humana.
The search for materials for hydrogen storage that are able to adsorb and desorb hydrogen molecules has received attention. Nanofibers have been studied because it has some interesting characteristics like high surface to volume ratio and the ease of producing by means of a low-cost setup. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) has allowed the possibility of obtaining carbon nanofibers from the electrospinning process followed by a thermal treatment; moreover Pd has the capability of store hydrogen and can form a complex with dimethylformamide (DMF) so that, during the preparation of the solution of PAN and PdCl 2 , both present high solubility in the solvent. Thus, the results demonstrated that as Pd can form complex with DMF the preparation method of the PAN+PdCl 2 solutions influences the interaction between Pd and PAN. The decrease in dispersion viscosity and an unexpected increase in the diameter of the fibers confirm the hypothesis. The FTIRS and XPS analysis confirm that the Pd complexes with DMF by means of bonds to N.
This article aimed to analyze the application of Lean philosophy in the manufacturing industry in Brazil, over a period of ten years, to establish a relationship regarding trends, success factors, opportunities and identify gaps in the implementation of lean processes. The understanding of these factors, allows to know the status quo regarding the Lean practices in the productive and economic context of the Brazilian industry. The relevance of this research is to provide information that contributes to decision making and strategic actions for the continuous improvement of production processes. The method applied in this work was qualitative, descriptive, bibliographic research and with the use of content analysis, with “a priori” categorization under articles that address the theme and obtained from the Web of Science database. In the results and discussions, the SWOT and crossSWOT analysis were applied, establishing the relationships between the trends, success factors, opportunities and gaps allowing the establishment of the outline of important strategies for the future of the organizations and, also, proposing possible scenarios. for managers to establish their decision making.

This work presents the simulation results of the fluid flow behavior inside a preconcentrator microstructure. The preconcentrator was implemented in silicon using reactive ion etching, SF6 based, to define the channels and anodic bonding between silicon and borosilicate glass for sealing. The preconcentrator design takes in account the enhancement of surface to area ratio, by dividing the flow until it reaches 50 um channels. The internal flow was analyzed using the commercial package ANSYS/FLOTRAN. Vortex formation was not observed under the simulation conditions and resolution, for water flow of 100 μl/min. The flow is essentially laminar and velocity changes (variations) can be observed, that can influence the residence time of the species inside the microstructure and, consequently, the diffusion/adsorption mechanisms.
Desde a instituicao da Convencao – Quadro das Nacoes Unidas sobre Mudanca do Clima em 1992 os paises membros se reunem anualmente para evitar o aumento da emissao dos gases de efeito estufa, principais causadores do aquecimento global. Este artigo apresenta um breve historico das conferencias das partes que apresentaram resultados referentes ao mercado de carbono e a comercializacao de seus creditos, a partir da regulamentacao do Protocolo de Quioto e de seu Mecanismo de Desenvolvimento Limpo (MDL) ate a aprovacao de um novo mecanismo, que faz parte do Acordo de Paris. Sao feitas consideracoes sobre a queda da utilizacao do MDL e da importância de se estimular a comercializacao de creditos de carbono.
The aim of this work was the design, manufacturing and testing of a small, low cost setup useful for research and teaching on microfluidics. The setup was designed to be modular and was assembled using only of-the-shell parts and pieces. The final device is composed of a base, where all parts and pieces are assembled, accessories to provide continuous flow of gas (air) or liquid (water) fluids and two optical digital microscopes for diagnosis of fluid condition. The corresponding photos and videos are directly collected on a computer. The setup performs contact angle measurements even on rough surfaces and using small drops, up to 10 μL, and showed to be appropriate for microfluidic analysis of the mesostructures, such as microchannels with 100 μm
