The experiment on seasonal abundance of, six insect-pests were found during the crop season attacking on the crop at different growth stages. Among them, pea pod borer (Etiella zinckenella) and gram pod borer (Helicoverpa armigera) were recorded as major pests. The pea leaf miner (Chromatomyia horticola), pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum), blue butter fly (Lampides boeticus) and stem fly (Ophiomyia phaseoli) were recorded as ‘minor’ pests. The population of pea pod borer was recorded during, first week of December and reached the peak in the first week of March. The pea pod borer population was negatively correlated with maximum temperature and positively correlated with minimum temperature, relative humidity and rain fall. Gram pod borer population was recorded during second week of December and reached to its peaked level in last week of February. Its population showed the significant negative correlation with maximum temperature while positive correlations with minimum temperature, relative humidity and rain fall. The initial incidence of pea leaf miner, pea aphid, and stem fly was observed during last week of November to first week of December and subsequently reaching to while to peak level on first and second week of February.

Bioefficacy of four newer insecticides (Buprofezin 5.65%+Deltamethrin 0.72% EC, Indoxacarb15.8% EC, Flubendiamide 480 SC and Methomyl 40% SP), one conventional insecticide (Quinolphos 25% EC), four biopesticides (Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana, HaNPV and EPN (Heterorhabditis indica) were evaluated against chickpea pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera in chickpea crop. All the treatments were found significantly effective in reducing the infestation of pod borer and increasing the yield compared with control. Application of flubendiamide @ 121.98 ml/ha was the most effective treatment in reducing the pod borer infestation and percent pod damage at all observational interval resulting highest grain yield 1833.33 kg/ha and 1802.77 kg/ha and maximum net profit Rs. 12436.62 and 12031.84/ha during 2009-10 and 2010-11, respectively and it was followed by methomyl @ 1.0 kg/ha. Among biopesticides, HaNPV @ 500 LE was found more effective with highest net profit. The maximum cost benefit ratio (1: 7.09 and 1: 6.13) during 2009-10 and 2010-11, respectively was also obtained in the treatment of Beauveria bassiana.
To study the different parameters of the Bombyx mori four host viz S-146, S-1635, V-1 and TR-10 and one alternate host plants under natural conditions highest percent mortality of 13.2 species recorded at early stage larvae on V-1. Generation survival fraction revealed that S-146 was most preferred host plant. Life table studies, viz. stage specific and survival of B. mori on the four species of mulberry plants (Morus alba) i.e, S-1635, S-146, V-1 and TR-10 under natural condition indicate that the insect preferred all the four hosts species but S-146 was favored, suitable food for the development and shows the lowest mortality of Bombyx mori.
An experiment was carried out to find the effect of different organic manures and to evaluate the efficacy of these organic manures on physical and chemical characteristics of mango cv. Dashehari at ambient storage conditions. Eighteen year old trees were treated with different organic manures at various concentration i.e. FYM @ 100, 125, 150 kg/tree; Vermicompost @ 25, 50, 75; Poultry manure @ 25, 50 kg/tree, 75 kg/tree; and Neem cake @ 10, 20, 30 Kg/tree in ‘Randomized Block Design’ with three replications. The application of 75 kg poultry manure per tree gave maximum fruit weight from day of harvest to 8 days of storage. The maximum physiological loss in weight was recorded in control trees fruit, whereas, minimum physiological loss in weight was recorded with application of 75 kg vermicompost per tree. Maximum titrable acidity and ascorbic acid was noted with application of 75 kg vermicompost per tree. The total sugars, reducing sugars and non-reducing sugars from the 2 days of storage to 8 days of storage was found maximum in 75 kg poultry manure per tree. These findings suggested that the application of 75 kg vermicompost and 75 kg poultry manure was most effective in enhancing quality characteristics of mango fruits.
Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) (Lepidopltera: Noctuidae), a pest of national importance in India, is one of the major limiting factor in the successful cultivation of chickpea (Sharma et al., 2006). However, the insect also causes economic losses to several other crops like tomato, cotton, pigeonpea, sunflower, marigold, groundnut, okra, beans etc. because of its highly polyphagous nature. Studies on the population dynamics of Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) on chickpea crop conducted at Pantnagar during 2009-10 and 2010-11 revealed that the infestation of the pest started in the second fortnight of December and attained its peak in the first week of April and last week of March during 2009-10 and 2010-11, respectively. The larval population of the pest occurred throughout the growth period of crop with maximum at pod and grain formation stages.
