We consider the confined Fr\"ohlich polaron and establish an asymptotic series for the low-energy eigenvalues in negative powers of the coupling constant. The coefficients of the series are derived through a two-fold perturbation approach, involving expansions around the electron Pekar minimizer and the excitations of the quantum field.
We consider dilute Bose gases on the three-dimensional unit torus that interact through a pair potential with scattering length of order N^κ -1 , for some κ >0 . For the range κ∈ [0, 1/43) , Adhikari et al. (Ann Henri Poincaré 22:1163–1233, 2021) proves complete BEC of low energy states into the zero momentum mode based on a unitary renormalization through operator exponentials that are quartic in creation and annihilation operators. In this paper, we give a new and self-contained proof of BEC of the ground state for κ∈ [0, 1/20) by combining some of the key ideas of Adhikari et al. (Ann Henri Poincaré 22:1163–1233, 2021) with the novel diagonalization approach introduced recently in Brooks (Diagonalizing Bose Gases in the Gross–Pitaevskii Regime and Beyond, arXiv:2310.11347 ), which is based on the Schur complement formula. In particular, our proof avoids the use of operator exponentials and is significantly simpler than Adhikari et al. (Ann Henri Poincaré 22:1163–1233, 2021).
Let X be a vector field and Y be a co-vector field on a smooth manifold M. Does there exist a smooth Riemannian metric g_αβ on M such that Y_β = g_αβ X^α ? The main result of this note gives necessary and sufficient conditions for this to be true. As an application of this result we provide a gradient-flow characterisation for dissipative quantum systems. Namely, we show that finite-dimensional ergodic Lindblad equations admit a gradient flow structure for the von Neumann relative entropy if and only if the condition of bkm-detailed balance holds.
We study the Fröhlich polaron model in 𝐑^3 , and prove a lower bound on its ground state energy as a function of the total momentum. The bound is asymptotically sharp at large coupling. In combination with a corresponding upper bound proved earlier (Mitrouskas et al. in Forum Math. Sigma 11:1–52, 2023), it shows that the energy is approximately parabolic below the continuum threshold, and that the polaron’s effective mass (defined as the semi-latus rectum of the parabola) is given by the celebrated Landau–Pekar formula. In particular, it diverges as α ^4 for large coupling constant α .
We present a novel approach to the Bogoliubov theory of dilute Bose gases, allowing for an elementary derivation of the celebrated Lee-Huang-Yang formula in the Gross-Pitaevskii regime. Furthermore, we identify the low lying excitation spectrum beyond the Gross-Pitaevskii scaling, extending a recent result [3] to significantly more singular scaling regimes. Finally, we provide an upper bound on the ground state energy in the Gross-Pitaevskii regime that captures the correct expected order of magnitude beyond the Lee-Huang-Yang formula.
We study the Fröhlich polaron model in ℝ^3 , and establish the subleading term in the strong coupling asymptotics of its ground state energy, corresponding to the quantum corrections to the classical energy determined by the Pekar approximation.
We give a mathematically precise review of a diagrammatic language introduced by Friedrichs in order to simplify computations with creation and annihilation operator products. In that language, we establish explicit formulas and algorithms for evaluating bosonic and fermionic commutators. Further, as an application, we demonstrate that the nonlinear Hartree dynamics can be seen as a subset of the diagrams arising in the time evolution of a Bose gas.
We verify Bogoliubov's approximation for translation invariant Bose gases in the mean field regime, i.e. we prove that the ground state energy $E_N$ is given by $E_N=Ne_\mathrm{H}+\inf \sigma\left(\mathbb{H}\right)+o_{N\rightarrow \infty}(1)$, where $N$ is the number of particles, $e_\mathrm{H}$ is the minimal Hartree energy and $\mathbb{H}$ is the Bogoliubov Hamiltonian. As an intermediate result we show the existence of approximate ground states $\Psi_N$, i.e. states satisfying $\langle H_N\rangle_{\Psi_N}=E_N+o_{N\rightarrow \infty}(1)$, exhibiting complete Bose--Einstein condensation with respect to one of the Hartree minimizers.
Recently it was shown that anyons on the two-sphere naturally arise from a system of molecular impurities exchanging angular momentum with a many-particle bath (Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 015301 (2021)). Here we further advance this approach and rigorously demonstrate that in the experimentally realized regime the lowest spectrum of two linear molecules immersed in superfluid helium corresponds to the spectrum of two anyons on the sphere. We develop the formalism within the framework of the recently experimentally observed angulon quasiparticle.
We consider the stochastic quantization of a quartic double-well energy functional in the semiclassical regime and derive optimal asymptotics for the exponentially small splitting of the ground state energy. Our result provides an infinite-dimensional version of some sharp tunneling estimates known in finite dimensions for semiclassical Witten Laplacians in degree zero. From a stochastic point of view it proves that the $L^2$ spectral gap of the stochastic one-dimensional Allen-Cahn equation in finite volume satisifies a Kramers-type formula in the limit of vanishing noise. We work with finite-dimensional lattice approximations and establish semiclassical estimates which are uniform in the dimension. Our key estimate shows that the constant separating the two exponentially small eigenvalues from the rest of the spectrum can be taken independently of the dimension.
Studies on the experimental realization of two-dimensional anyons in terms of quasiparticles have been restricted, so far, to only anyons on the plane. It is known, however, that the geometry and topology of space can have significant effects on quantum statistics for particles moving on it. Here, we have undertaken the first step toward realizing the emerging fractional statistics for particles restricted to move on the sphere instead of on the plane. We show that such a model arises naturally in the context of quantum impurity problems. In particular, we demonstrate a setup in which the lowest-energy spectrum of two linear bosonic or fermionic molecules immersed in a quantum many-particle environment can coincide with the anyonic spectrum on the sphere. This paves the way toward the experimental realization of anyons on the sphere using molecular impurities. Furthermore, since a change in the alignment of the molecules corresponds to the exchange of the particles on the sphere, such a realization reveals a novel type of exclusion principle for molecular impurities, which could also be of use as a powerful technique to measure the statistics parameter. Finally, our approach opens up a simple numerical route to investigate the spectra of many anyons on the sphere. Accordingly, we present the spectrum of two anyons on the sphere in the presence of a Dirac monopole field.
