A field experiment was conducted for three winter seasons under irrigated conditions to identify the effective integrated weed management practices for brinjal. The major weeds were: Cyperus rotundus, Legasca millis, Cleome viscosa, Panicum sp. Among the treatments, metolachlor applied at 1.5 kg/ha recorded lowest weed dry matter of 23.1 and 18.4 g/m2 during 1996–97 and 1997–98 and oxyfluorfen @ 0.15 kg/ha during 1998–99 (21 g/m2). Herbicide applied at higher levels recorded lower weed dry matter as compared to herbicides applied at lower levels and integrated with hand weeding. Fruit yield of brinjal in the plots treated with butachlor, pendimethalin, metolachlor, alachior, each 1.0 kg/ha or oxyfluorfen @0.10 kg/ha fb HW at 40 DAP was at par with weed free check and was significantly higher as compared to application of herbicides at higher levels.
A field experiment was conducted to identify effective weed management practices in rice-blackgram cropping system. During kharif application of anilophos @ 0.4 kg/ha at 5 DAT to rice was found equally effective in suppressing weed growth and resulted in grain yield of rice as that of hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 DAT. The competitional stress to rice was mainly caused by Echinocloa colona, Cyperus iria, Cyperus difformis and Ammania baccifera. During rabi, the competitional stress to blackgram was mainly due to Cyperus rotundus, Echinocloa colonum, Panicum sp. and Trianthema portulacastrum. Application of pendimethalin, metolachlor, alachlor each @ 1.5 kg/ha to blackgram was effective in controlling weeds and resulted in similar yield as that of hand weeded crop. All weed management treatments resulted in significantly higher seed yield over that of unweeded control. Application of herbicides and hand weeding in rice had no effect on weed growth of succeeding blackgram crop in rabi and similarly herbicide application to blackgram did not influence the weed flora and growth of rice in kltarif.
A field experiment was conducted to identify effective weed management practice and to study the influence of weed management on the weed flora of succeeding crops in rice-sunflower eropping system. Application of anilofos 0.4 kg/ha or butachlor 1.5 kg/ha or 2,4-DEE 1.0 kg/ha at 5 DAT was found equally effective in suppressing weed growth and inereasing grain yield of rice. Application of herbicides and hand weeding to sunflower did not influence the weed control and growth in kharif rice. During rabi, applieation of oxyfluorfen 0.15 kg/ha and metolachlor 1.5 kg/ha to sunflower was effeetive in eontrolling weeds and resulted in similar yield to that of hand weeded (20 DAS) crop. On the other hand, all these weed management treatments resulted in signifieantly higher seed yield over that of unweeded control. Application of herhicides and hand weeding in rice had no effect on weed growth of succeeding sunflower erop in rabi.
