The present study was conducted to identify the correlation between fitness and wellness across dancers’ dancing careers. Data were collected by surveying 110 dancers from middle and high schools, universities, and graduate schools after identifying the sample. One Gate, a TestWell survey, measures anaerobic exercise capacity using Wingate Anaerobic peak power [PP], Average Power [AP], Fatigue Index [FI]), cardiovascular endurance (PEI), flexibility, body composition, body fat mass (BFM), body mass index (BMI), percentage body fat (PBF), lean body mass (LBM), and cellular water. For statistical analysis, the study used t-test, one-way ANOVA, Fishers Least Significant Difference (LSD) test, Simple Linear Regression, and Multiple Linear Regression. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship among anaerobic exercise capacity, physical strength, and wellness dimension of dancers by their dancing careers. Upon the study results, statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were found in maximum power (MP), and average power (AP) among the factors of anaerobic exercise capacity by dancing careers. Fatigue Index (FI) did not show the significant difference by dancing careers. Statistically significant differences were found in Intra/Extra Cellular Water, muscle weight, LBM, and skeletal mass among the factors of physical health (p<0.05), while no significant differences were found in physical efficiency index (PEI), flexibility, weight, body fat mass, body mass index, percentage body fat, and so on by dancing careers. Upon the analysis of survey results on wellness, statistically significant difference was found in physical dimension (p<0.05), but no significant differences were found in four dimensions including spiritual and emotional dimension, safety and selfcare dimension, intellectual dimension, and social dimension by dancing careers. In conclusion, it is anticipated to provide the basic data for prevention and management of dancers’ injuries based on the analysis results of anaerobic exercise capacity, physical strength, and wellness dimension of dancers by their dancing careers.
The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship between body composition, body shape satisfaction and life habits among dance-major(n=59) and general major(n=46) of female college students. 105 female students were recruited, body mass index(BMI), percent body fat, abdominal obesity, visceral fat, muscle mass and basal metabolism were assessed. The questionnaire was employed to assess life habits including body shape satisfaction, physical activity, eating, drinking, smoking habits. Among dance-major students, There was statistically significant correlation between 1)body shape satisfaction and percent body fat, visceral fat and BMI, 2)eating habits and abdominal obesity, visceral and BMI, 3)drinking and BMI. among general major students, 1)body shape satisfaction and percent body fat, abdominal obesity, visceral fat, Muscle Mass and BMI, 2)eating habits and BMI, 3)physical activity habits and muscle mass, basal metabolism. In conclusion, there were significant effect of life habits such as body shape satisfaction, eating habits and drinking habits on percent body fat, BMI, abdominal obesity or visceral fat among dance-major female students.
This study was conducted to examine bone mineral density, body mass index and eating disorder of female dancers based on the career. Bone density measurement(Osteosys Co. Ltd., SONOST-2000, KOREA), 6 questions - organization, dance career, age, height, weight, menstrual regularity - and Anorexia Bulimia Inventory questionnaire were conducted on 142 amateur female dancers and 134 professional female dancers. Statistical analysis was conducted using two sample t-tests and multiple correlation analysis. All Statistical procedures were performed by SPSS(Ver. 23.0) windows. There were significant differences p.05. As a result of the T-tests of the two female dancers groups, there were significant differences in career(t=16.842), removal behavior(t=2.002), and body sensitivity(t=3.236) (p.05). As a result of multiple correlation analysis, for amateur female dancers, there were significant positive correlations between bone mineral density and removal behavior(r=.212), between body sensitivity and binge eating behavior(r=.314) and between body sensitivity and anxiety(r=.243)(p.05). For professional female dancers, there were significant positive correlations between body mass index and removal behavior(r=.173) and between body mass index and body sensitivity(r=.196)(p.05). The health education program for female dancers should be emphasized on the perception of the correlation between the career and the body of dancers.
본 연구는 무용전공 여대생들의 라이프 스타일과 신체조성 및 건강관련체력의 관계를 분석하는데 있다. S시 소재의 무용전공 여대생 61명을 선정하여 신장 및 체중을 측정하여 체질량지수를 계산하였다. 또한 신체조성요인(체지방률, 복부비만률, 내장지방량 등) 및 건강관련체력(근력, 근지구력, 심폐지구력, 유연성 등)을 측정하였고, 설문지를 사용하여 운동습관, 식습관, 흡연 및 음주 습관과 수면습관 등 라이프 스타일을 측정하였다. 대상자의 라이프 스타일과 신체조성 및 건강관련체력의 상관관계를 분석하였고, 라이프 스타일의 신체조성 및 건강관련체력의 설명력을 분석하였다. 무용전공자들은 운동습관과 복부 비만률, 식습관과 체중, 체질량지수, 음주습관과 체질량지수, 체지방률, 내장지방이 유의한 상관관계가 나타났다. 결론적으로 무용 전공자들은 공연연습과 체형관리 등을 규칙적으로 하지만, 운동습관, 식습관 또는 음주습관 등 라이프 스타일에 따라 체중, 체질량지수, 복부비만률, 내장지방 등 신체조성이 영향을 받는 것으로 사료된다.
In order to achieve and maintain the “ideal” ballet physique, professional female ballet dancers often control their low body weight and fat level by limiting their food intake. Low energy intake may disrupt appetite-regulating hormones such as ghrelin, leptin, insulin, and glucose. PURPOSE: To determine the correlation between percent body fat(%BF) and appetite-regulating hormone levels among Korean professional female ballet dancers. METHODS: 86 Korean professional female ballet dancers (age: 25.8±2.7yrs., ballet experience: 13.7±4.0yrs.) participated in this study. The body composition (BMI, total body water, and %BF) was measured using bioelectrical impedance method. To calculate the energy intake, the subjects self-recorded (24-hour recall method) their daily food consumption for 7 days, and the data was calculated using Can-Pro nutrition analysis software. Blood samplings were assayed using RIA, ECLIA, and Enzymatic methods for ghrelin, leptin, insulin, and glucose. Statistical analyses included linear regression and Durbin Watson Test. RESULTS: The body composition of the subjects was as follows: BMI (18.42±1.04kg/m2), total body water (28.3±1.77kg), and %BF (19.60±2.95%). The energy intake of the subjects was 1585±40kcal/day. The result showed that the independent variables leptin (3.69±1.83ng/mL) and insulin (4.08±2.02μU/mL) significantly (p<0.05) affected the dependant variable %BF, and leptin and insulin were positively correlated. The independent variables ghrelin (1089.9±38pg/mL) and glucose (88.90±8.17mg/dL) showed no significant correlation to the %BF. CONCLUSIONS: These data indicated leptin and insulin correlate with %BF, and the female ballet dancers with higher %BF also had higher level of leptin and insulin.
