The hotel industry is in need of efficient, integrated, and economic supply chains and circulation processes. This paper introduces a project of integration of hotel management systems by web services technology. We discuss how web services will consent to the hotel industry by automating product distributions and providing better services to buyers, suppliers, and prospective partners. The project, Group Hotel Integration Reservation System (GHIRS), integrates many hotel industry systems such as Enterprise Information System (EIS), Enterprise Information Portal system (EIP), Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) and Supply Chain Management system (SCM) together. Evaluation of this project and comparison with other systems are discussed. We conclude that although web services technology faces some challenges, it is a potential tool that brings hotel industry increasing profits.
Most of the current web-based database systems suffer from poor performance, complicated heterogeneity, and synchronization issues. In this paper, we propose a novel mechanism for web-based database system on multicast and anycast protocols to deal with these issues. In the model, we put a castway, a network interface for database server, between database server and Web server. Castway deals with the multicast and anycast requests and responses. We propose a requirement-based server selection algorithm and an atomic multicast update algorithm for data queries and synchronizations. The model is independent from the Internet environment, it can synchronise the databases efficiently and automatically. Furthermore, the model can reduce the possibility of transaction deadlocks.
When the average number of spam messages received is continually increasing exponentially, both the Internet Service Provider and the end user suffer[1-3]. The lack of an efficient solution may threaten the usability of the email as a communication means. In this paper we present a filtering mechanism applying the idea of preference ranking. This filtering mechanism will distinguish spam emails from other email on the Internet. The preference ranking gives the similarity values for nominated emails and spam emails specified by users, so that the ISP/end users can deal with spam emails at filtering points. We designed three filtering points to classify nominated emails into spam email, unsure email and legitimate email. This filtering mechanism can be applied on both middleware and at the client-side. The experiments show that high precision, recall and TCR (total cost ratio) of spam emails can be predicted for the preference based filtering mechanisms.
E-learning presents a lot of benefits and has many new characteristics. For example one urgent issue in e-learning is that students can not get immediate help when they do their assignments and exercises. Although email and consultation can partially deal with the problem, they are not efficient and effective. In this paper we present a heuristic question based model for e-learning. It can be considered as an on-line study helper, a recommendation guide, and a handy tutor. A system can be built on this model to solve issues arising from learner-focused e-learning environments. Our experiences in some subjects teaching proved that this model is much appreciated.
This paper presents an adaptive information grid architecture for recommendation systems, which consists of the features of the recommendation rule and a co-citation algorithm. The algorithm addresses some challenges that are essential for further searching and recommendation algorithms. It does not require users to provide a lot of interactive communication. Furthermore, it supports other queries, such as keyword, URL and document investigations. When the structure is compared to other algorithms, the scalability is noticeably better. The high online performance can be obtained as well as the repository computation, which can achieve a high group-forming accuracy using only a fraction of web pages from a cluster.
This paper presents an innovative strategy to synchronize all virtual clocks in asynchronous Internet environments. Our model is based on the architecture of one reference clock and many slave clocks communicating with each other over the Internet. The paper makes three major contributions to this research area. Firstly, one-way information transmission is applied to reduce traffic overhead on the Internet for the purpose of clock synchronization. Secondly, the slave nodes use local virtual time and the arrival timestamp, from the reference node, to create linear mathematical trend models and to retrieve the clock precision differences between reference clock and slave clocks. Finally, a fault-tolerant and self-adaptive model executed by each slave node based on the above linear trend model is created in order to ensure that the virtual clock is running normally, even when the link between the reference node and this slave node has crashed. We also present detailed simulations of this strategy and mathematical analysis on real Internet environments.
In this paper, we present the experiment results of three adaptive equalization algorithms: least-mean-square (LMS) algorithm, discrete cosine transform-least mean square (DCT-LMS)-algorithm, and recursive least square ( RLS) algorithm. Based on the experiments, we obtained that the convergence rate of LMS is slow; the convergence rate of RLS is great faster while the computational price is expensive; the performance of that two parameters of DCT-LMS are between the previous two algorithms, but still not good enough. Therefore we will propose an algorithm based on H-2 in a coming paper to solve the problems.
Most of the current Web-based application systems suffer from poor performance and costly heterogeneous accessing. Distributed or replicated strategies can alleviate the problem in some degree, but there are still some problems of the distributed or replicated model, such as data synchronization, load balance, and so on. We propose a novel architecture for Internet based data processing system based on multicast and anycast protocols. The proposed architecture breaks the functionalities of existing data processing system, in particular, the database functionality, into several agents. These agents communicate with each other using multicast and anycast mechanisms. We show that the proposed architecture provides better scalability, robustness, automatic load balance, and performance than the current distributed architecture of Internet-based data processing.

Anycasting communication is proposed in IPv6, and it is designed to support server replication by allowing applications to select and communicate with the "best" server, according to some performance or policy criteria, among the replicated servers. Originally any-cast researchers focus on network layer. In this paper we pay more attention to application-layer anycasting, because at application layer we can obtain more flexibility and scalability. First of all, we describe the application-layer anycast model, and then summarize the previous work in application-layer anycasting, especially the periodical probing algorithms for updating the database of anycast resolver. After that, we present our algorithm, the requirement-based probing algorithm, an efficient and practical algorithm. In the end, we analyse the algorithms using the queuing theory and the statistics characteristics of Internet traffic. The results show that the requirement-base probing algorithm has better performance not only in the average waiting time for all anycast queries, but also in the average time used for an anycast query.
