In this paper, we introduce an extended four-parameter Fr´echet model called the exponentiated exponential Fr´echet distribution, which arises from the quantile function of the standard exponential distribution. Various of its mathematical properties are derived including the quantile function, ordinary and incomplete moments, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, mean deviations, mean residual life, mean waiting time, generating function, Shannon entropy and order statistics. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. The usefulness of the new distribution is illustrated by means of three real lifetime data sets. In fact, the new model provides a better fit to these data than the Marshall-Olkin Fr´echet, exponentiated-Fr´echet and Fr´echet models.
In this paper, we introduce a new generalized family of distri- butions from bounded support (0,1), namely, the Topp-Leone-G family. Some of mathematical properties of the proposed family have been studied. The new density function can be symmetrical, left-skewed, right-skewed or reverse-J shaped. Furthermore, the hazard rate function can be constant, in- creasing, decreasing, J or bathtub hazard rate shapes. Three special models are discussed. We obtain simple expressions for the ordinary and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions, mean deviations and entropies. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parame- ters. The flexibility of the new family is illustrated by means of three real data sets.
We introduce a new model named the Kumaraswamy Pareto IV distribution which extends the Pareto and Pareto IV distributions. The density function is very flexible and can be left-skewed, right-skewed and symmetrical shapes. It hasincreasing, decreasing, upside-down bathtub, bathtub, J and reversed-J shaped hazard rate shapes. Various structural properties are derived including explicit expressions for the quantile function, ordinary and incomplete moments,Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, mean deviations, mean residual life, mean waiting time, probability weighted moments and generating function. We provide the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The Renyi and q entropies are also obtained. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of three real-life data sets. In fact, our proposed model provides a better fit to these data than the gamma-Pareto IV, gamma-Pareto, beta-Pareto,exponentiated Pareto and Pareto IV models.
The logistic-X (LX) family of distributions based on the logistic random variable was formulated recently by Tahir et al. [1]. We study a new special model of this family called the logistic exponentiated-exponential (LEE) distribution. Its density function can be symmetric, left-skewed, right-skewed, and reversed-J shaped, and its hazard rate can be decreasing and upside-down bathtub shapes. We provide a useful power series for its quantile function and a mixture representation for its density function. The parameters of the LEE model are estimated by maximum likelihood. Three Ozone data sets are modeled to illustrate the applicability of the new model.
We propose a new three-parameter distribution with increasing, decreasing, reversed-J and upside-down bathtub shaped hazard rate, called the Weibull-power Cauchy distribution. We obtain explicit expressions for the mode, ordinary, negative and incomplete moments, mean deviations, mean residual life, quantile and generating functions, order statistics, Shannon entropy and reliability. We derive a power series for the quantile function using exponential partial Bell polynomials. A useful characterization of the new distribution is also presented. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters. The importance of the new distribution is proved empirically by means of three real-life data sets.
In this paper, a new family of distributions is proposed by using quantile functions of known distributions. Some general properties of this family are studied. A special case of the proposed family is studied in detail, namely the Lomax-Weibull distribution. Some structural properties of the special model are established. This distribution has been applied to several censored and uncensored data sets with various shapes.
Recently, Risti and Nadarajah [A new lifetime distribution. J Stat Comput Simul. 2014;84:135-150] introduced the Poisson generated family of distributions and investigated the properties of a special case named the exponentiated-exponential Poisson distribution. In this paper, we study general mathematical properties of the Poisson-X family in the context of the T-X family of distributions pioneered by Alzaatreh et al. [A new method for generating families of continuous distributions. Metron. 2013;71:63-79], which include quantile, shapes of the density and hazard rate functions, asymptotics and Shannon entropy. We obtain a useful linear representation of the family density and explicit expressions for the ordinary and incomplete moments, mean deviations and generating function. One special lifetime model called the Poisson power-Cauchy is defined and some of its properties are investigated. This model can have flexible hazard rate shapes such as increasing, decreasing, bathtub and upside-down bathtub. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters. We illustrate the flexibility of the new distribution by means of three applications to real life data sets.
Recently, several attempts have been made to define new models that extend well-known distributions and at the same time provide great flexibility in modelling real data. We propose a new four-parameter model named the Weibull-power function (WPF) distribution which exhibits bathtub-shaped hazard rate. Some of its statistical properties are obtained including ordinary and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions, Renyi and Shannon entropies, reliability and order statistics. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood. A bivariate extension is also proposed. The new distribution can be implemented easily using statistical software packages. We investigate the potential usefulness of the proposed model by means of two real data sets. In fact, the new model provides a better fit to these data than the additive Weibull, modified Weibull, Sarahan-Zaindin modified Weibull and beta-modified Weibull distributions, suggesting that it is a reasonable candidate for modeling survival data.
We introduce a new four-parameter model called the Gumbel-Lomax distribution arising from the Gumbel-X generator recently proposed by Al-Aqtash (2013). Its density function can be right-skewed and reversed-J shaped, and can have decreasing and upside-down bathtub shaped hazard rate. Various structural properties of the new distribution are obtained including explicit expressions for the quantile function, ordinary and incomplete moments, Lorenz and Bonferroni curves, mean residual lifetime, mean waiting time, probability weighted moments, generating function and Shannon entropy. We also provide the density function for the order statistics. Some characterizations of the new distribution based on the conditional expectations of certain functions of the random variable are also proposed. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. The flexibility of the new model is illustrated by means of two real lifetime data sets.
The logistic distribution has a prominent role in the theory and practice of statistics. We introduce a new family of continuous distributions generated from a logistic random variable called the logistic-X family. Its density function can be symmetrical, left-skewed, right-skewed, and reversed-J shaped, and can have increasing, decreasing, bathtub, and upside-down bathtub hazard rates shaped. Further, it can be expressed as a linear combination of exponentiated densities based on the same baseline distribution. We derive explicit expressions for the ordinary and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, Shannon entropy, and order statistics. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. We also investigate the properties of one special model, the logistic-Frechet distribution, and illustrate its importance by means of two applications to real data sets.
Statistical analysis of lifetime data is an important topic in reliability engineering, biomedical and social sciences and others. We introduce a new generator based on the Weibull random variable called the new Weibull-G family. We study some of its mathematical properties. Its density function can be symmetrical, left-skewed, right-skewed, bathtub and reversed-J shaped, and has increasing, decreasing, bathtub, upside-down bathtub, J, reversed-J and S shaped hazard rates. Some special models are presented. We obtain explicit expressions for the ordinary and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions, Renyi entropy, order statistics and reliability. Three useful characterizations based on truncated moments are also proposed for the new family. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters. We illustrate the importance of the family by means of two applications to real data sets.
A new distribution, namely, the G arama-Half-Cauchy distribution is proposed. Various properties of the Gamma-Half Cauchy distribution are studied in detail such as limiting behavior, moments, mean deviations and Shannon entropy. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is obtained. Two data sets arc used to illustrate the applications of Gamma- Half-Cauchy distribution.
We introduce a new family of continuous distributions called the Kumaraswamy Marshal-Olkin generalized family of distributions. We study some mathematical properties of this family. Its density function is symmetrical, left-skewed, right-skewed and reversed-J shaped, and has constant, increasing, decreasing, upside-down bathtub, bathtub and S-shaped hazard rate. We present some special models and investigate the asymptotics and shapes of the family. We derive a power series for the quantile function and obtain explicit expressions for the moments, generating function, mean deviations, two types of entropies and order statistics. Some useful characterizations of the family are also proposed. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters. We illustrate the importance of the family by means of two applications to real data sets.
Many distributions have been used as lifetime models. In this article, we propose a new three-parameter Weibull–Pareto distribution, which can produce the most important hazard rate shapes, namely, constant, increasing, decreasing, bathtub, and upsidedown bathtub. Various structural properties of the new distribution are derived including explicit expressions for the moments and incomplete moments, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, mean deviations, mean residual life, mean waiting time, and generating and quantile functions. The Rényi and q entropies are also derived. We obtain the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The model parameters are estimated by maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of two real datasets on Wheaton river flood and bladder cancer. In the two applications, the new model provides better fits than the Kumaraswamy–Pareto, beta-exponentiated Pareto, beta-Pareto, exponentiated Pareto, and Pareto models.
We introduce a new model called the Weibull-Lomax distribution which extends the Lomax distribution and has increasing and decreasing shapes for the hazard rate function. Various structural properties of the new distribution are derived including explicit expressions for the moments and incomplete moments, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, mean deviations, mean residual life, mean waiting time, probability weighted moments, generating and quantile function. The Renyi and q entropies are also obtained. We provide the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. The potentiality of the new model is illustrated by means of two real life data sets. For these data, the new model outperforms the McDonald-Lomax, Kumaraswamy-Lomax, gamma-Lomax, beta-Lomax, exponentiated Lomax and Lomax models.
