We report an improved measurement of the valence u and d quark distributions from the forward-backward asymmetry in the Drell-Yan process using 8.6 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96. This analysis provides the values of new structure parameters that are directly related to the valence up and down quark distributions in the proton. In other experimental results measuring the quark content of the proton, d quark contributions are mixed with those from other quark flavors. In this measurement, the u and d quark contributions are separately extracted by applying a factorization of the QCD and electroweak portions of the forward-backward asymmetry.
A bstract A search for the exclusive decays of the Higgs and Z bosons to a ϕ or ρ meson and a photon is performed with a pp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 35 . 6 fb −1 collected at $$ \sqrt{s}=13 $$ s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. These decays have been suggested as a probe of the Higgs boson couplings to light quarks. No significant excess of events is observed above the background, as expected from the Standard Model. Upper limits at 95% confidence level were obtained on the branching fractions of the Higgs boson decays to ϕ γ and ρ γ of 4 . 8 × 10 −4 and 8 . 8 × 10 −4 , respectively. The corresponding 95% confidence level upper limits for the Z boson decays are 0 . 9 × 10 −6 and 25 × 10 −6 for ϕ γ and ρ γ, respectively.
A search for leptoquarks decaying into the bτ final state is performed using Run 2 proton-proton collision data from the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 at √(s) = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. The benchmark models considered in this search are vector leptoquarks with electric charge of 2/3e and scalar leptoquarks with an electric charge of 4/3e. We describe an analysis comparing the pp[over ¯] elastic cross section as measured by the D0 Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV to that in pp collisions as measured by the TOTEM Collaboration at 2.76, 7, 8, and 13 TeV using a model-independent approach. The TOTEM cross sections, extrapolated to a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV, are compared with the D0 measurement in the region of the diffractive minimum and the second maximum of the pp cross section. The two data sets disagree at the 3.4σ level and thus provide evidence for the t-channel exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound, also known as the odderon. We combine these results with a TOTEM analysis of the same C-odd exchange based on the total cross section and the ratio of the real to imaginary parts of the forward elastic strong interaction scattering amplitude in pp scattering for which the significance is between 3.4σ and 4.6σ. The combined significance is larger than 5σ and is interpreted as the first observation of the exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound.
This letter presents a search for narrow, high-mass resonances in the Zγ final state with the Z boson decaying into a pair of electrons or muons. The s=13 TeV pp collision data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and have an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The data are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model background expectation. Upper limits are set on the resonance production cross section times the decay branching ratio into Zγ. For spin-0 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion, the observed limits at 95% confidence level vary between 65.5 fb and 0.6 fb, while for spin-2 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion (or quark–antiquark initial states) limits vary between 77.4 (76.1) fb and 0.6 (0.5) fb, for the mass range from 220 GeV to 3400 GeV.
We present a study of the normalized transverse momentum distribution of W bosons produced in p ¯ p collisions, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4 . 35 fb − 1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at ffiffiffi s p ¼ 1 . 96 TeV. The measurement focuses on the transverse momentum region below 15 GeV, which is of special interest for electroweak precision measurements; it relies on the same detector calibration methods which were used for the precision measurement of the W boson mass. The measured distribution is compared to different QCD predictions and a procedure is given to allow the comparison of any further theoretical models to the D0 data.
Identifier les habitudes de prescriptions d’hormones thyroïdiennes par les médecins de la Société Française d’Endocrinologie (SFE), en tenant compte des formulations disponibles de lévothyroxine. Les médecins de la SFE ont été invités entre janvier et avril 2021 à remplir un questionnaire en ligne concernant leurs habitudes de prescription d’hormones thyroïdiennes. Parmi 2094 membres, 535 (25,5 %) ont pu être inclus dans l’analyse. La lévothyroxine (LT4) est le traitement de choix de l’hypothyroïdie (99,4 % des répondants), essentiellement sous forme de comprimés. 7,1 % et 14,2 % des répondants envisagent de prescrire de la liothyronine (LT3) ou une combinaison LT3/LT4 dans certaines circonstances, principalement en cas de persistance de symptômes d’hypothyroïdie malgré une TSH normale avec LT4. Concernant la prescription d’hormones thyroïdiennes chez des patients euthyroïdiens, 40,4 % affirment qu’elles ne sont jamais indiquées dans ce cas et 37 % pourraient les prescrire en cas de goitre dont le volume augmente. Une part significative des répondants (29–56 %) n’attend pas de changement majeur avec d’autres formulations de LT4 (capsule molle ou gouttes), même en cas de difficulté d’équilibration ou de suspicion de malabsorption. Le traitement de choix de l’hypothyroïdie en France est la LT4, sous forme de comprimés. Une minorité envisage les préparations à base de LT3 en cas de symptômes persistants avec TSH normale. Certains envisagent la prescription d’hormones thyroïdiennes chez des patients en euthyroïdie avec un goitre dont le volume augmente. Les résultats de cette enquête menée dans d’autres pays européens seront comparés secondairement.
We present various properties of the production of the X(3872) and psi(2S) states based on 10.4 fb(-1) collected by the D0 experiment in Tevatron p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. For both states, we measure the nonprompt fraction f(NP) of the inclusive production rate due to decays of b-flavored hadrons. We find the f(NP) values systematically below those obtained at the LHC. The f(NP) fraction for psi(2S) increases with transverse momentum, whereas for the X(3872) it is constant within large uncertainties, in agreement with the LHC results. The ratio of prompt to nonprompt psi(2S) production, ( 1 - f(NP))/f(NP), decreases only slightly going from the Tevatron to the LHC, but for the X(3872), this ratio decreases by a factor of about 3. We test the soft-pion signature of the X(3872) modeled as a weakly bound charm-meson pair by studying the production of the X(3872) as a function of the kinetic energy of the X(3872) and the pion in the X(3872)pi center-of-mass frame. For a subsample consistent with prompt production, the results are incompatible with a strong enhancement in the production of the X(3872) at the small kinetic energy of the X(3872) and the pi in the X(3872)pi center-of-mass frame expected for the X + soft-pion production mechanism. For events consistent with being due to decays of b hadrons, there is no significant evidence for the soft-pion effect, but its presence at the level expected for the binding energy of 0.17 MeV and the momentum scale Lambda = M(pi) is not ruled out.
Objectives: Studies on the antimicrobial susceptibility profile of anaerobic bacteria are underrepresented in the literature. Within this study we aim to give an extensive overview of the differences in antimicrobial susceptibility profiles between different European and surrounding countries. Methods: Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) data of different antibiotics were collected from 10 participating laboratories, representing an equal number of countries. All MIC's were determined using Etest, according to the protocol used by the participating laboratory. Anaerobic genera represented by at least 10 clinical isolates were included in the study. Results: Each country tested different antibiotics, sometimes depending on the kind of infection and/or the anaerobic species isolated. All countries tested clindamycin and metronidazole. Resistance rates differed remarkably between the different countries. Especially in Kuwait, resistance was high for all tested antibiotics. Unexpected metronidazole resistance was observed for Finegoldia magna isolates, Peptoniphilus isolates and Eggerthella lenta isolates. Conclusions: Due to the extensive differences in antimicrobial susceptibility profile of anaerobic bacteria isolated within different countries, we strongly recommend to perform this kind of study on a regular basis. Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a potentially life-threatening disorder in which C1-esterase inhibitor, which inhibits kallikrein, is low or non-functioning. All current targeted prophylactic treatments for HAE are parenteral. The safety profile of BCX7353, a novel oral kallikrein inhibitor for HAE prophylaxis, was evaluated in a Phase 3 trial (APeX-2; NCT03485911).
We describe a search for Z boson pair production in p (cid:1) p collisions at ffiffiffi s p ¼ 1 : 96 TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 : 7 fb (cid:1) 1 . Using the final state decay ZZ ! ‘ þ ‘ (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (where ‘ ¼ e or (cid:2) ) we find a signal with a 2.6 standard deviations significance (2.0 expected) corresponding to a cross section of (cid:3) ð p (cid:1) p ! ZZ þ X Þ ¼ 2 : 01 (cid:2) 0 : 93 ð stat Þ (cid:2) 0 : 29 ð sys Þ pb .

Using a data sample of 1475 000 Z --f q4( y) events collected during 1994 with the L3 detector at LEP, we have studied the purely leptonic decays of heavy flavour mesons, D; + r-F, and B--+ Fi&. A signal is observed in the invariant mass distribution M(yDL) corresponding to the decay sequence D:---) rD;, DF -+ r-fir, 7-+ I-?/z+. The branching fraction for D; -+ 7-& decays is measured to be B(D; + T-Y,) = 0.074% O.O28(stat) f O.O16(syst) IIZ O.O18(norm). No signal of B--f T-Y, decays is observed in the data, corresponding to an upper limit on the branching fraction n(B-+ 7-i;,) < 5.7 x 10e4 at 90% CL. @ 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
