Along with the growth of technology, virtual reality has been reaching the unlimited point of artificial experience. Nowadays, besides gaming, movies and shopping, education, healthcare and medical therapy is getting benefit from Virtual Reality (VR) technology. In particularly, psychological treatment uses virtual reality as an alternative form of exposure therapy. Inspired from children psychology, this work is created in order to help children having bedtime anxiety to overcome their own phobia. The product is a combination of graphic elements, sound effects and virtual reality. The goal of this work is to help children approach their bedtime imaginary monsters and become familiar with their fears. Moreover, it expands occupational therapy and makes virtual reality accessible to everyone, especially children.
Based on Biggs et. al (2001), this study investigated the extent of how Personal Response Systems (PRS) can influence students' learning experiences in an undergraduate classroom for deep and surface learning. The experiment involved 40 students in Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Systems) at RMIT University Vietnam. The topic presented was Colour Theory. 99% of the participants were local students who used English as second language. The Study Process Questionnaire circulated during PRS sessions were used to inquire into student motives and strategies in achieving their learning outcomes. Factor analysis identified 4 underlying factors: Deep Motive, Surface Motive, Deep Strategy and Surface Strategy. The quantitative analysis suggested that there was a positive relationship between Deep Approach (DA) and Surface Approach (SA) with the four sub-scales, Deep Motive (DM), Deep Strategy (DS), Surface Motive (SM), and Surface Strategy (SS). In other words, PRS appears to enhance, improve and facilitate students' learning process by promoting deep motives and strategies. This finding was further validated with data gathered from focus group interviews. 10 participants had been invited to participate in focus group interviews. The prompts of the semi-structured interview include PRS classroom experience, motives of using PRS and the strategies of using PRS in classroom. Special attention had been given attention to the analysis of the student's role, lecturer's role and the interaction between them. The findings from the interviews supported the quantitative analysis and suggested that the traditionally perceived teacher roles, learner roles and the interactions between teachers and learners in the classroom had been transformed tremendously when PRS was used as a teaching pedagogy. In details it suggested that PRS has assisted students in increasing their concentration, participation and contribution in classroom discussion. It also shows that lecturers change their roles from knowledge delivery to classroom discussion facilitators. Further pedagogy implications are also discussed.
First year, tertiary courses have many teaching related challenges. Lecturers need to engage students with mixed educational backgrounds, abilities and study habits. Moreover, some students studying first year subjects may already know some of the material, but not all, and as a consequent find traditional teaching material uninteresting and boring. These complications can be compounded with other issues relating to students being taught in a second language. This paper reports on the use of multimedia for student-centered delivery of theory, problem classes exercises, laboratories and assessments with a first year, tertiary course on information technology to Vietnamese students whose English is their second language. The new course material was developed and designed to be entertaining and educational. The students' survey and discussion board comments suggest the teaching related challenges have been met by introducing multimedia delivery material, exercises and assessments. The evidence suggests that students prefer learning with multimedia.
In this paper, we describe the trend of mobile community and its components. The success of the community is heavily dependent on content and adaptation despite the communication speed. The market trend has moved from storage oriented to mobility oriented. Spatial information based on a map that tells the location of places of interest such as restaurants has become more important than ever. Hence, this paper focuses on the content management of spatial information via wireless communication devices in the developing area such as Borneo that has substantially lower bandwidth and less stable GPRS network.
