This study aimed to assess the diagnosis of diabetes after detecting high blood glucose levels through screening among insured individuals in Gunma, Japan. Data for men and women 35 to 74 years of age were provided by Japan Health Insurance Association, and 4133 individuals with high blood glucose levels while not currently being treated for diabetes were included in the study. About 13% received a diagnosis of diabetes at a subsequent physician visit, and individuals who were under treatment for hypertension were less likely to receive the added diagnosis of diabetes compared with those not being treated for hypertension (odds ratio = 0.42; 95% confidence interval = [0.33, 0.54] from a logistic regression model). Fasting blood glucose levels were significantly improved in the next year only among individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of diabetes.
In this study, we aimed to construct a system to perform statistical analyses for educational improvement while preserving privacy. Various probabilistic statistical algorithms have been developed for data agitation. However, one of the major challenges in using these algorithms is determining appropriate parameters. To address this issue, our previous research proposed the “α-criterion” as a criterion that must be satisfied by appropriate parameters. This paper outlines a system that calculates the parameters that satisfy the α-criterion while performing real-time data agitation on the given aggregate data. To verify that our implementation actually works, we show a use case with sample data on kibana-Elastic log analysis provided by Elastic N. V.
We propose a criterion of reasonable parameters for an algorithm that aggregates target data with anonymized data for safe data analysis in online educational systems, called learning management systems (LMSs). We also statistically investigate parameters that can satisfy the proposed criteria using an anonymization algorithm and real large-scale data. We use an open dataset containing one year's worth of product review data due to the difficulty of collecting LMS data large enough for the evaluation. Furthermore, we discuss an approach to address cases where no parameter satisfies the proposed criteria.
A "whitelist network switch (WLS)", which can monitor and filter packets based on a whitelist, is particularly effective for stronger information security in closed network environments, such as in factories. This paper focuses on the base network environment for a nurse call system within a large hospital. This network environment is of particular importance to security, and the types of network protocols used are limited. We note important points regarding the practical operation and effectiveness of WLS through two approaches: (i) test introduction into an existing, actual hospital network system; (ii) test introduction in an experimental nurse call system environment.
BACKGROUND:The detection of the glomeruli is a key step in the histopathological evaluation of microscopic images of the kidneys. However, the task of automatic detection of the glomeruli poses challenges owing to the differences in their sizes and shapes in renal sections as well as the extensive variations in their intensities due to heterogeneity in immunohistochemistry staining. Although the rectangular histogram of oriented gradients (Rectangular HOG) is a widely recognized powerful descriptor for general object detection, it shows many false positives owing to the aforementioned difficulties in the context of glomeruli detection.RESULTS:A new descriptor referred to as Segmental HOG was developed to perform a comprehensive detection of hundreds of glomeruli in images of whole kidney sections. The new descriptor possesses flexible blocks that can be adaptively fitted to input images in order to acquire robustness for the detection of the glomeruli. Moreover, the novel segmentation technique employed herewith generates high-quality segmentation outputs, and the algorithm is assured to converge to an optimal solution. Consequently, experiments using real-world image data revealed that Segmental HOG achieved significant improvements in detection performance compared to Rectangular HOG.CONCLUSION:The proposed descriptor for glomeruli detection presents promising results, and it is expected to be useful in pathological evaluation.
Though quality indicators play an important role in assessment of medical service quality of hospitals, there still exists no universal framework to collect or select adequate quality indicators for certain assessment of medical service quality. This paper provides a set of models called "Medical Service Assessment Models (MSAM)" that help collect adequate quality indicators to assess medical service quality from the patients’ viewpoint. To this end, we focus on a set of semantic patterns of medical service quality assessment and develop an ontology called "Medical Service Assessment Ontology (MSAO)", which is a vocabulary to construct MSAM based on the patterns. The framework consisting of MSAM and MSAO plays a role in guidelines for collecting adequate quality indicators to assess medial service quality from the patients' viewpoint, and helps explain the basis for the collection of quality indicators. In agile software development, it is imperative for stakeholders such as the users and developers of an information system to collaborate in designing and developing the information system, by sharing their knowledge. Especially in development of a large-scale information system, such collaboration among stakeholders is important, but difficult to achieve. This chapter introduces a modeling method of business processes for requirements analysis and a development framework based on Web-process architectures. The modeling method makes it easier for stakeholders to agree upon requirements. It also employs a formal method to allow business process models to satisfy both understandability and accuracy. On the other hand, the development framework above enables rapid spiral development of short-term cycles through the collaboration of developers and users. This chapter also introduces an example that compares the workloads of two requirement analyses of large-scale system developments for a government service and a financial accounting service, in order to evaluate the advantages of the proposed modeling method.
For recent years, it has grown importance to evaluate medical service qualities of medical staffs and/or hospitals by using quality indicators. This paper introduces a representation system QI-RS of quality indicators. By using QI-RS, one can define quality indicators that satisfy understandability and formality, where “understandability” means that one can understand the calculation formula of a quality indicator easily and correctly, while “formality” means that the formula can be calculated to obtain the values of the indicator based on databases in a coherent manner.
In this paper, we discuss a fundamental theory of incremental verification for workflows. Incremental verification is a method to help multiple designers share and collaborate on huge workflows while maintaining their consistency. To this end, we introduce passbacks in workflows and their consistency property in the control flow perspective, passbacks indicate redoing of works. Workflows with passbacks are useful to naturally represent human works. To define the consistency property above, we define normality of workflows with passbacks and total correctness of normal workflows based on transition system-based semantics of normal workflows. We further extend workflows to sorted workflows and define their vertical division and composition. We also extend total correctness to normal sorted workflows, for the sake of incremental verification of a large-scale workflow with passbacks via vertical division and composition.
