Depuis sa création, le Parc national du Mont Péko est sujet à diverses pressions anthropiques. Ces pressions ont été accentuées durant les conflits armés en Côte d’Ivoire entre 2002 et 2011. L’intensification des pressions aurait entraîné une augmentation du taux de déforestation dans le parc. Pour vérifier cette hypothèse, la présente étude visait à déterminer l’effet des conflits sur la dynamique forestière du parc. À cet effet, quatre images satellitaires Landsat ont été analysées pour examiner les changements d’occupation des sols avant, pendant et après les conflits. Les résultats de ces travaux révèlent une forte réduction des surfaces forestières durant les conflits, qui s'est accentuée pendant la période post-conflit. En effet, 5,65 % de pertes se sont produites avant les conflits à un taux annuel de 0,42 %, contre 28,03 % pendant les conflits à un taux annuel de 3,92 %, et 34,02 % après les conflits à un taux annuel de 14,41 %. Cette aggravation de la déforestation dans le parc est liée à la culture illégale du cacao. L’infiltration massive des populations paysannes dans cette aire protégée pendant les conflits a entraîné une exacerbation des pressions. Une surveillance constante et un aménagement des zones converties en plantation de cacao afin d’accélérer la régénération dans le parc s’avèrent donc nécessaires. En outre, les résultats soulignent la vulnérabilité des aires protégées lors des conflits et l’urgence de la prise de mesures de sécurisation de celles-ci pour prévenir les risques de dégradation.
Suite aux évènements politiques survenus en 2002 en Côte d'Ivoire, le Parc national du Mont Péko a connu une forte anthropisation qui a impacté son intégrité écologique. La présente étude a pour objectif d'évaluer la diversité floristique du parc après cette décennie de crise afin de contribuer à l'élaboration des stratégies de conservation. La collecte des données sur la flore a combiné la méthode de relevé de surface et celle dite itinérante. 66 relevés floristiques ont été réalisés chacun sur une aire minimale de 400 m², équitablement répartis entre les forêts, les jachères et les parcelles aménagées par l'Office Ivoirien des Parcs et Réserves. Les données collectées ont permis de noter que malgré les perturbations constatées dans un passé récent, la flore du parc reste encore riche et très diversifiée. Un total de 470 espèces appartenant à 326 genres et 92 familles botaniques a été inventorié. Les familles les mieux représentées sont les Euphorbiaceae et les Rubiaceae. Le spectre biologique indique une prédominance des phanérophytes (89 %). Sur le plan chorologique, les espèces guinéo-congolaises (GC) dominent la flore du parc à 69 %. En outre, 105 espèces à statut particulier ont été identifiées d'où l'urgence de sauver cette aire protégée fragilisée et menacée de disparition. Following the political events in 2002 in Côte d'Ivoire, the Mont Péko national Park experienced a strong enthronization that impacted its ecological integrity. The objective of this study is to assess the park's floristic diversity after this decade of crisis in order to contribute to the development of conservation strategies. The collection of data on flora combined the surface survey method and the so-called itinerant method. 66 floristic surveys were carried out each on a minimum area of 400 m², equitably distributed between forests, fallow land and plots managed by the Ivorian Office of Parks and Reserves. The data collected made it possible to note that despite the disturbances observed in the recent past, the park's flora is still rich and very diversified. A total of 470 species belonging to 326 genera and 92 botanical families were inventoried. The best represented families are Euphorbiaceae and Rubiaceae. The biological spectrum indicates a predominance of phanerophytes (89%). In chorological terms, Guineo-Congolese species dominate the park's flora at 69%. In addition, 105 species with special status have been identified from where the urgent need to save this fragile and threatened protected area of disappearance.
Since its creation, Mont Peko National Park has been subject to various anthropogenic pressures, which increased during the period of armed conflict in Cote d'Ivoire between 2002 and 2011. The intensification of pressures appears to have brought an increased rate of deforestation in the park. To test this hypothesis, this study aimed to determine the effects of the conflict period on forest dynamics in the park. For this purpose, four Landsat satellite images were analysed to examine land use changes before, during and after the period of conflict. Our results show a sharp reduction in forested areas during the period of conflict, followed by further reductions in the post-conflict period. In percentage terms, 5.65% of losses occurred before the conflict period at an annual rate of 0.42%, as against 28.03% during the conflicts at an annual rate of 3.92% and 34.02% after the conflicts at an annual rate of 14.41%. This worsening deforestation in the park is linked to the illegal cultivation of cocoa. Existing pressures have thus been exacerbated by the large-scale arrival of peasant populations in the protected area during the conflict period. Our results also show the vulnerability of protected areas during conflicts and the urgency of taking security measures to prevent the risk of degradation, thus further highlighting the need for constant monitoring and management to accelerate forest regeneration in park areas converted to cocoa plantations.

Statistics on selected landscape metrics were produced to quantify the structural changes resulting from this fragmentation. Analysis of landscape metrics showed a significant increase in the level of fragmentation of forest cover during and after the period of crisis. The overall structural dynamics of the landscape of the Mont Peko national Park during the periods studied reveals a fragmentation of the forest at the expense of the creation of cocoa plantations. There is therefore an urgent need to strengthen the supervisory capacity of managers in order to eradicate the scourge of cocoa cultivation in the Mont Peko national Park.

The Mont Péko national Park (MPNP) located to the West of Côte d'Ivoire underwent severe human pressure related to a succession of political and military crises from 2002 to 2011. Since 2013, the Ivoirians government is engaged in a process of rehabilitation of this park. This study aimed to evaluate the dynamics of human pressures from 1996 to 2018, in order to allow the manager of the park to better focus their awareness and protection activities. To achieve this, the RAPPAM method of WWF international was adopted for the collection of data. The study identified 10 types of pressures of which farm is the most severe followed by pressure on land, logging, bush fires, the establishment of settlements, poaching and pollution. The intensity of pressures on the MPNP doesn’t significantly vary depending on the areas, but this varies according to the socio-political gradient in time. The pressures have evolved gradually from 2002 to 2011 before beginning to decline progressively until 2018. Currently, except for uncontrolled bush fires, all pressures declined significantly, or even disappear for some. The existence of a variety of pressures on the MPNP to disturbing proportions is therefore related in part to the lack of monitoring during the crises. The anthropization of the MPNP found the springs of its acceleration in the existence of an armed gang who have organized, systematic exploitation of the resources.
