Using a sample of about 382 million γ(4S) decays into BB pairs, collected with the BABAR detector operating at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, we measure the ratios of the branching fractions B(B- → D 0 CP±K-) + B(B+ → D 0 CP±K+) [B(B- → D 0 K-) + B(B+ → D 0 K+)]/2 and the direct CP asymmetry ACP± Ξ B(B-→D 0 CP±K-) - B(B+→D 0 CP±K+) B(B-→D 0 CP±K-) + B(B+→D 0 CP±K+) . The results are: RCP- = 0.81 ± 0.10(stat) ± 0.05(syst) RCP+ = 1.07 ± 0.10(stat) ± 0.04(syst) ACP- = -0.19 ± 0.12(stat) ± 0.02(syst) ACP+ = 0.35 ± 0.09(stat) ± 0.05(syst).
We perform a measurement of the CP asymmetry in b-->sgamma decays using a sample of 383 x 10(6) B[over] B events collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B factory. We reconstruct 16 flavor-specific B decay modes containing a high-energy photon and a hadronic system X_(s) containing an s quark. We measure the CP asymmetry to be -0.011+/-0.030(stat)+/-0.014(syst) for a hadronic system mass between 0.6 and 2.8 GeV/c(2).
We report the observation of the b -> d penguin-dominated decay B-0 -> K-*0(K) over bar (*0) with a sample of 383.2 +/- 4.2 million B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The measured branching fraction is B(B-0 -> K-*0(K) over bar (*0))=[1.28(-0.30)(+0.35)+/- 0.11]x10(-6) and the fraction of longitudinal polarization is f(L)(B-0 -> K-*0(K) over bar (*0))=0.80(-0.12)(+0.10)+/- 0.06. The first error quoted is statistical and the second systematic. We also obtain an upper limit at the 90% confidence level on the branching fraction for B(B-0 ->(KK*0)-K-*0)< 0.41x10(-6).
We present partial branching fractions for inclusive charmless semileptonic $B$ decays $\overline{B}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{X}_{u}\ensuremath{\ell}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$, and the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|{V}_{ub}|$. The analysis is based on a sample of $383\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ decays into $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ storage rings. We select events using the invariant mass ${M}_{X}$ of the hadronic system, the invariant mass squared, ${q}^{2}$, of the lepton and neutrino pair, the kinematic variable ${P}_{+}$, or one of their combinations. We then determine partial branching fractions in limited regions of phase space: $\ensuremath{\Delta}\mathcal{B}=(1.18\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.09}_{\mathrm{stat}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.07}_{\mathrm{syst}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.01}_{\mathrm{theor}})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ (${M}_{X}<1.55\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$), $\ensuremath{\Delta}\mathcal{B}=(0.95\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.10}_{\mathrm{stat}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.08}_{\mathrm{syst}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.01}_{\mathrm{theor}})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ (${P}_{+}<0.66\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/c$), and $\ensuremath{\Delta}\mathcal{B}=(0.81\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.08}_{\mathrm{stat}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.07}_{\mathrm{syst}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.02}_{\mathrm{theor}})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ (${M}_{X}<1.7\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$, ${q}^{2}>8\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}/{c}^{4}$). Corresponding values of $|{V}_{ub}|$ are extracted using several theoretical calculations.
We present a study of excited charm-strange baryon states produced in e(+)e(-) annihilations at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV, in a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 384 fb(-1) recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We study strong decays of charm-strange baryons to Lambda K-+(c)S(0), Lambda K-+(c)-, Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+), Lambda K-+(c)S(0)pi(-), Lambda K-+(c)S(0)pi(-)pi(+), and Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+)pi(-). This study confirms the existence of the states Xi(c)(2980)(+), Xi(c)(3077)(+), and Xi(c)(3077)(0), with a more accurate determination of the Xi(c)(2980)(+) mass and width. We also present evidence for two new states, Xi(c)(3055)(+) and Xi(c)(3123)(+), decaying through the intermediate-resonant modes Sigma(c)(2455)K-++(-) and Sigma(c)(2520)K-++(-), respectively. For each of these baryons, we measure the yield in each final state, determine the statistical significance, and calculate the product of the production cross section and branching fractions. We also measure the masses and widths of these excited charm-strange baryons.
We present a combined measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-cb vertical bar and of the parameters rho(2), R-1(1), and R-2(1), which fully characterize the form factors for the B-0 -> D*(-)center dot(+)nu(center dot) decay in the framework of heavy-quark effective field theory. The results, based on a selected sample of about 52 800 B-0 -> D*(-)center dot(+)nu(center dot) decays, recorded by the BABAR detector, are rho(2)=1.157 +/- 0.094 +/- 0.027, R-1(1)=1.327 +/- 0.131 +/- 0.043, R-2(1)=0.859 +/- 0.077 +/- 0.021, and F(1)vertical bar V-cb vertical bar=(34.7 +/- 0.4 +/- 1.0)x10(-3). The first error is the statistical and the second is the systematic uncertainty. Combining these measurements with the previous BABAR measurement of the form factors, which employs a different fit technique on a partial sample of the data, we improve the statistical precision of the result, rho(2)=1.191 +/- 0.048 +/- 0.028, R-1(1)=1.429 +/- 0.061 +/- 0.044, R-2(1)=0.827 +/- 0.038 +/- 0.022, and F(1)vertical bar V-cb vertical bar=(34.4 +/- 0.3 +/- 1.1)x10(-3). Using lattice calculations for the axial form factor F(1), we extract vertical bar V-cb vertical bar=(37.4 +/- 0.3 +/- 1.2 +/-(1.2)(1.4))x10(-3), where the third error is due to the uncertainty in F(1). We also present a measurement of the exclusive branching fraction, B=(4.69 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.34)%.
We present for the first time a measurement of the weak phase 2 beta+gamma obtained from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B-0 -\u003e(DK0)-K--/+pi(+/-) decays. Using a sample of approximately 347x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage rings and assuming the ratio r of the b -\u003e u and b -\u003e c decay amplitudes to be 0.3, we obtain 2 beta+gamma=(83 +/- 53 +/- 20)degrees and the equivalent solution at +180 degrees. The magnitudes and phases for the resonances associated with the b -\u003e c transitions are also extracted from the fit.
We present a search for B decays to a charged scalar meson a(0)(+) and a pi(0) where the a(0)(+) decays to an eta meson and a pi(+). The analysis was performed on a data sample consisting of 383x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We find no significant signal and set an upper limit on the product branching fraction B(B+-> a(0)(+)pi(0))xB(a(0)(+)->eta pi(+)) of 1.4x10(-6) at the 90% confidence level.
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 342 fb(-1) collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II electron-positron storage ring operating at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV, we measure B(tau(-)--> pi(-)pi(-)pi+nu(tau)(ex.K(S0))=(8.83+/-0.01+/-0.13)%, B(tau(-) -->K(-)pi(-)pi+nu tau(ex.K(S0))=(0.273+/-0.002+/-0.009)%, B(tau(-) -->K(-)pi(-)K+nu tau)=(0.1346+/-0.0010+/-0.0036)%, and B(tau(-) -->K(-)K(-)K+nu tau)=(1.58+/-0.13+/-0.12)x10;{-5}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These include significant improvements over previous measurements and a first measurement of B(tau(-) -->K(-)K(-)K+nu tau) in which no resonance structure is assumed. We also report a first measurement of B(tau(-) -->var phi(-)nu tau)=(3.42+/-0.55+/-0.25)x10(-5), a new measurement of B(tau(-) -->var phi K(-)nu tau)=(3.39+/-0.20+/-0.28)x10(-5) and a first upper limit on B(tau(-) -->K(-)K(-)K+nu tau(ex.var phi)).
We report results of a search for CPT and Lorentz violation in B(0)-B[over ](0) oscillations using inclusive dilepton events from 232 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB[over ] decays recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory at SLAC. We find 2.8sigma significance, compatible with no signal, for variations in the complex CPT violation parameter z at the Earth's sidereal frequency and extract values for the quantities Deltaa(micro) in the general Lorentz-violating standard-model extension. The spectral powers for variations in z over the frequency range 0.26 yr(-1) to 2.1 solar day(-1) are also compatible with no signal.
We present for the first time a measurement of the weak phase 2 beta+gamma obtained from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B-0 ->(DK0)-K--/+pi(+/-) decays. Using a sample of approximately 347x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage rings and assuming the ratio r of the b -> u and b -> c decay amplitudes to be 0.3, we obtain 2 beta+gamma=(83 +/- 53 +/- 20)degrees and the equivalent solution at +180 degrees. The magnitudes and phases for the resonances associated with the b -> c transitions are also extracted from the fit.
We present a measurement of ${D}^{0}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}{\overline{D}}^{0}$ mixing parameters using the ratios of lifetimes extracted from a sample of ${D}^{0}$ mesons produced through the process ${D}^{*+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$, which decay to ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$, ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}^{+}$, or ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$. The lifetimes of the $CP$-even, Cabibbo-suppressed modes ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}^{+}$ and ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ are compared with that of the $CP$-mixed, Cabibbo-favored mode ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ to obtain a measurement of ${y}_{CP}$, which in the limit of $CP$ conservation corresponds to the mixing parameter $y$. The analysis is based on a data sample of $384\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider. We obtain ${y}_{CP}=[1.24\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.39(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.13(\mathrm{syst})]%$, which is evidence for ${D}^{0}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}{\overline{D}}^{0}$ mixing at the $3\ensuremath{\sigma}$ level, and $\ensuremath{\Delta}Y=[\ensuremath{-}0.26\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.36(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08(\mathrm{syst})]%$, where $\ensuremath{\Delta}Y$ constrains possible $CP$ violation. Combining this result with a previous BABAR measurement of ${y}_{CP}$ obtained from a separate sample of ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}^{+}$ events, we obtain ${y}_{CP}=[1.03\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.33(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.19(\mathrm{syst})]%$.
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 342 fb−1 collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II electron-positron storage ring operating at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV, we measure B(τ−→π−π−π+ντ(ex.KS0))=(8.83±0.01±0.13)%, B(τ−→K−π−π+ντ(ex.KS0))=(0.273±0.002±0.009)%, B(τ−→K−π−K+ντ)=(0.1346±0.0010±0.0036)%, and B(τ−→K−K−K+ντ)=(1.58±0.13±0.12)×10−5, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These include significant improvements over previous measurements and a first measurement of B(τ−→K−K−K+ντ) in which no resonance structure is assumed. We also report a first measurement of B(τ−→ϕπ−ντ)=(3.42±0.55±0.25)×10−5, a new measurement of B(τ−→ϕK−ντ)=(3.39±0.20±0.28)×10−5 and a first upper limit on B(τ−→K−K−K+ντ(ex.ϕ)).Received 19 July 2007DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.100.011801©2008 American Physical Society

We present searches for the leptonic decays B+-> l(+)nu and the lepton flavor violating decays B-0 -> l(+/-)tau(-/+), where l = e, mu, with data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. This search demonstrates a novel technique in which we fully reconstruct the accompanying (B) over bar in Gamma(4S)-> B (B) over bar events, and look for a monoenergetic lepton from the signal B decay. The signal yield is extracted from a fit to the signal lepton candidate momentum distribution in the signal B rest frame. Using a data sample of approximately 378x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs (342 fb(-1)), we find no evidence of signal in any of the decay modes. Branching fraction upper limits of B(B+ -> e(+)nu) < 5.2 x 10(-6), B(B+ -> mu(+)nu) < 5.6 x 10(-6), B(B-0 -> e(+)tau(-)) < 2.8 x 10(-5) and B(B-0 -> mu(+)tau(-)) < 2.2 x 10(-5), are obtained at 90% confidence level.
We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of neutral $B$ mesons to ${K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$. With a sample of $(231.8\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2.6)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}\mathit{\ensuremath{\Upsilon}}(4S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}B\overline{B}$ decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $B$ Factory at SLAC, we measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for ${B}^{0}$ and ${\overline{B}}^{0}$ decays and determine the corresponding $CP$-averaged branching fractions and charge asymmetries. The inclusive branching fraction and $CP$-violating charge asymmetry are measured to be $\mathcal{B}({B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0})=({35.7}_{\ensuremath{-}1.5}^{+2.6}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2.2)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$ and ${\mathcal{A}}_{CP}=\ensuremath{-}{0.030}_{\ensuremath{-}0.051}^{+0.045}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.055$ where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. We observe the decay ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*0}(892){\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ with the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}({B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*0}(892){\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0})=({3.6}_{\ensuremath{-}0.8}^{+0.7}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.4)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$. This measurement differs from zero by 5.6 standard deviations (including the systematic uncertainties). The selected sample also contains ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ decays where ${\overline{D}}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, and we measure $\mathcal{B}({B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0})=(2.93\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.17\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.18)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$.
We present a search for the decay B+->tau(+)nu using 383x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B Factory. We select a sample of events with one completely reconstructed tag B in a hadronic decay mode (B-->(DX-)-X-(*)0), and examine the rest of the event to search for a B+->tau(+)nu decay. We identify the tau lepton in the following modes: tau(+)-> e(+)nunu, tau(+)->mu(+)nu(nu) over bar, tau(+)->pi(+)(nu) over bar, and tau(+)->pi(+)pi(0)(nu) over bar. We find a 2.2 sigma excess in data and measure a branching fraction of B(B+->tau(+)nu)=(1.8(-0.8)(+0.9)(stat.)+/- 0.4(bkg. syst.)+/- 0.2(other syst.))x10(-4). We calculate the product of the B meson decay constant f(B) and [V-ub] to be f(B)center dot[V-ub]=(10.1(-2.5)(+2.3)(stat.)(-1.5)(+1.2)(syst.))x10(-4) GeV.
