The past three to four decades have provided solid evidence that workplace bullying can be a severe stressor with the potential to impact the mental and physiological health as well as the well-being of victims. The aim of this study was to highlight the effects of workplace bullying by focusing on individual outcomes (turnover intentions and commitment). Drawing on the self-determination theory, a model tested the mediating role of need satisfaction between workplace bullying, organizational justice, and affective commitment and turnover intentions. The data were collected in the Hauts-de-France region (France) from 312 employees across various companies. Correlation results and mediation analyses confirmed our hypotheses. Overall, the findings of this study support the idea that satisfying basic psychological needs promotes optimal functioning and contributes to an individual's psychological well-being. Practical and research implications are discussed.
Objective. - The study proposes the analysis of the relationship between body image, self-esteem and body shame (dependent variables) in HIV patients according to their age, gender, level of education, HIV status and year of their HIV screening. We also wanted to see how independent variables (gender and age) affect self-esteem, body image and body shame. Methods. - Participants included 158 HIV patients (men and women) who completed a battery of self- report measures: the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (1965), the Bruchon-Schweitzer Body Image Scale (BIS) (1990), and the body shame subscale from the Shame Experience Scale (ESS) by Andrews et al. (2002). Results. - The first hypothesis, which tests the link between self-esteem, body image and body shame and the sociodemographic variables (age, gender, level of education, HIV status and year of screening), showed a significant relationship among Gabonese HIV patients. The second hypothesis, which evaluates the influence of age and gender on all our dependent variables (self-esteem, body image and body shame), indicated that women are no more likely to express more body dissatisfaction and shame about their bodies and their level of self-esteem is no lower than that of men. Finally, an intergroup comparison demonstrated that self-esteem is lower among youth in certain age groups. Conclusion. - There are significant links between self-esteem, body image and body shame with lower level of self-esteem in young HIV patients. For clinicians involved in the management of HIV patients, knowledge of the level of self-esteem, body dissatisfaction and body shame would allow for the development of appropriate care and therapeutic intervention goals (therapeutic group, self efficacy group). Workplace bullying is characterized by negative, repetitive, and frequent behaviors towards a person, affecting his/her physical and mental health The present study aimed to assess the relationship between bullying, turnover intention, and psychological distress, considering the potential mediating effect of perceived supervisor support. A questionnaire was completed by 252 women and 172 men (n = 424) from 70 French companies and institutions. They were working in private (70%), public (28%), and parapublic (2%) sectors. Finally, 33 trades are represented in this study: commercial (21%), educational (12%), medical (8.3%), and industry (8.3%) were the most prominently represented. Regression analyses showed that bullying was significantly linked to turnover intention (ß = 0.52, p < 0.05) and psychological distress (ß = 0.78, p < 0.001). Moreover, supervisor support played a mediating role between workplace bullying and turnover intention, as well as between workplace bullying and psychological distress. The implications and perspectives of the present research were subsequently discussed.
The purpose of this study was to understand the indirect role of hierarchical and colleagues social support between bullying and the three forms of organizational (procedural, interpersonal, and informational) justice in one hand, the emotional commitment and outcome in terms of emotional exhaustion on the other hand. The data collected from survey submitted to 92 subjects were subjected to correlation, linear regressions and mediation analyzes. The regressions show that psychological bullying added to procedural, interpersonal and informational justice, as well as emotional engagement explains emotional exhaustion. Mediation analyzes also reveal that social support for colleagues has an indirect effect between interpersonal, informational, procedural and emotional exhaustion. Finally, the hierarchy social support has an indirect effect between the informational justice, procedural justice and emotional exhaustion. (C) 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
Mobbing was defined as a sequence of actions that occurs frequently (at least once a week) over a rather long period, and consists of comments and hostile schemes expressed by one or more persons toward a targeted individual (Leymann, 1996). Workplace bullying is known for its detrimental effects on the psychological and physical health of employees. Indeed, bullying is associated with a variety of symptoms including dissatisfaction, distress, burnout, disengagement and, turnover intentions. Workplace bullying has a serious impact on mental and physical health and leads to distress or extreme self-destructive behaviors such as suicide. Based on workplace bullying (WB) models, this study aimed at assessing on the one hand, the effects of BW and the frustration of psychological needs (PN) autonomy, competence and social affiliation on the intention of turnover the organization and, on the other hand, mediating effects of social support of colleagues and hierarchy between WB and PN frustration and, turnover intentions. A questionnaire was completed by employees (n = 266) from the Hauts-de-France region. Regression analyses showed indirect effects of colleagues’ support between WB and the intent of turnover while colleagues’ support does not mediate the link between PN frustration and turnover intentions. Hierarchical support has a mediating effect in the relationship between HMT and the original intent and, between BP frustration and turnover intentions. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of the present study for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention as well as the avenues for future research.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the factors related to workers' psychological health (i.e., life satisfaction and psychological disengagement) and turnover intentions. More specifically, we tested the mediating role of affective commitment to the organization in the relationships of distributive and procedural justices to life satisfaction, psychological disengagement, and turnover intentions. A sample of 434 French employees (252 women), with a mean age of 38 years (SD = 11.24), working in various professional settings completed a questionnaire. Results from path analysis revealed that distributive and procedural justices had direct and indirect effects (through affective commitment) on turnover intentions, life satisfaction, and psychological disengagement. More generally, they showed the role of distributive and procedural justices as well as affective commitment to the organization in explaining well-being, ill-being, and turnover intentions. The theoretical and practical implications of the present study as well as the avenues for future research are discussed.
