We present the design of a novel instrument tuned to detect transiting exoplanet atmospheres. The instrument, which we call the exoplanet transmission spectroscopy imager (ETSI), makes use of a new technique called common-path multi-band imaging (CMI). ETSI uses a prism and multi-band filter to simultaneously image 15 spectral bandpasses on two detectors from $430-975nm$ (with a average spectral resolution of $R = \lambda/\Delta\lambda = 23$) during exoplanet transits of a bright star. A prototype of the instrument achieved photon-noise limited results which were below the atmospheric amplitude scintillation noise limit. ETSI can detect the presence and composition of an exoplanet atmosphere in a relatively short time on a modest-size telescope. We show the optical design of the instrument. Further, we discuss design trades of the prism and multi-band filter which are driven by the science of the ETSI instrument. We describe the upcoming survey with ETSI that will measure dozens of exoplanet atmosphere spectra in $\sim2$ years on a two meter telescope. Finally, we will discuss how ETSI will be a powerful means for follow up on all gas giant exoplanets that transit bright stars, including a multitude of recently identified TESS (NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) exoplanets.

This year's sophomores will be required to pass the Essential Skills Test (Oaks, ACT etc.) in Reading in order to graduate, as well as accumulating all required graduation credits. The freshmen class will be required to pass the Essential Skills Test in Reading and Writing, as well as accumulating all required graduation credits. This year's 8 th graders will have to pass the Essential Skills Test in Reading, Writing and Math, as well as accumulating all required graduation credits. These tests have already been a part of testing in previous years (given in the 8th and 10th grade, etc.) but it is new that students must pass in order to receive a diploma. In terms of how this affects our district: the district is now looking at statistics regarding test outcomes. An example is: the younger students who do NOT pass reading benchmark tests on average as they grow older (without intervention) do NOT pass the high school standardized reading tests. Therefore the conclusion is that more emphasis is underway to offer reading intervention for students in TTSD. It is anticipated that more reading, writing and math intervention classes will be required. This may impact elective classes offered. A detailed explanation of these changes and graduation requirements will be in the Academic Guide and will be mailed out with summer mailings. The New Zealand mud snail (NZMS) Potantopyrgus antipodarum is an invasive species that threatens fish populations in North America. Establishment of NZMS in fish hatcheries is particularly problematic because NZMS could be inadvertently spread through Fish stocking. Herein, we present the results of tests conducted to improve our understanding of (1) the risk of stocking fish from NZMS-infested hatcheries and (2) methods of NZMS control. We determined the proportion of NZMS that can survive passage through the digestive tracts of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss and whether the purgative Epsom salt (MgSO4) could increase excretion rates. We tested NZMS phototropism and whether light preference is influenced by food availability. Finally, we determined whether NZMS would contract into their shells when exposed to sodium chloride (NaCl) and whether the anesthetic tricaine methanesulfonate (MS-222) would induce NZMS muscle relaxation. Only 4.5% of snails survived passage through the digestive tracts of rainbow trout, and Epsom salt did not increase NZMS excretion rates. This suggests that hatchery stocking could spread NZMS. New Zealand mud snails demonstrated neutral light preference and strongly preferred to occupy regions with food regardless of light presence. Finally, we determined that 59.3 +/- 9.0% (mean +/- SE) of NZMS exposed to an 11.0-g/L solution of NaCl retracted into their shells within 1 min of exposure and that 32.8 +/- 4.1% of NZMS contracted when exposed to a 5.5-g/L NaCl solution. Retraction rates in the NaCl solution were significantly greater (P < 0.05) than those in the control, indicating that NaCl could be helpful for snail removal front portions of a hatchery that are difficult to access. Tricaine methanesulfonate concentrations of up to 400 mg/L did not induce muscle relaxation, suggesting that MS-222 cannot be used in Conjunction With Other Compounds to increase their effectiveness.
We describe the approach for the estimation of the atmospheric state, e.g., temperature, water, ozone, from calibrated, spectral radiances measured from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) onboard the Aura spacecraft. The methodology is based on the maximum a posteriori estimate, which mathematically requires the minimization of the difference between observed spectral radiances and a nonlinear model of radiative transfer of the atmospheric state subject to the constraint that the estimated state must be consistent with an a priori probability distribution for that state. The minimization techniques employed here are based on the trust-region Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. An analysis of the errors for this estimate include smoothing, random, spectroscopic, "cross-state", representation, and systematic errors. In addition, several metrics and diagnostics are introduced that assess the resolution, quality, and statistical significance of the retrievals. We illustrate this methodology for the retrieval of atmospheric and surface temperature, water vapor, and ozone over the Gulf of Mexico on November 3, 2004.
