The SIGMA-AYAKS setup was used to study the production of cumulative protons p(B), having kinetic energies in the range 0.1 < T(B) < 0.3 GeV and accompanied by fast rho0 mesons with the Feynman variable x(F) > 0.6 and squared transverse momentum p(t)2 < 1 (Ge V/v)2, in pion-nucleus interactions at the incident pi--meson momentum p(BM) = 40 GeV/c. In pi-Be interactions, the T(B)-dependence of the invariant cross section of cumulative. proton production is measured. The polarization properties and distributions of fast rho0 mesons over x(F) and p(l)2 are also studied. It is found that characteristics of rho0 mesons in the distinguished channel of the reaction are similar to those of rho0 mesons produced in the beam fragmentation range of pi-N interactions.
In study of the diffraction dissociation of ..pi../sup -/ mesons into a 3..pi.. system at a beam momentum 40 GeV/c in the MIS installation at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, reactions have been separated into coherent and incoherent types on the basis of measurement of the energy deposition by the recoil nucleus in a silicon multilayer target-detector. A partial-wave analysis has been carried out for separated coherent events. The dependences of the intensities and relative phases of the partial waves on the mass of the 3..pi.. system confirm the data obtained by us previously on observation of resonance states in the waves 0/sup -/S(..pi..' and ..pi..''), 1/sup +/S(A/sub 1/), 2/sup -/S(A/sub 3/), and 1/sup +/D(A/sup '//sub 1/). The data obtained in the present work indicate that the differential cross section for incoherent production of a 3..pi.. system approaches zero as t'..-->..0.
