Aerial parts of Gaillardia suavis gave orobol 7,3′-dimethyl ether and the new isoflavones 7,3′-dimethoxy-5,6,4′-trihydroxyisoflavone and 7-methoxy-5,6,4′-trihydroxyisoflavone. Gaillardia aestivalis from central Texas gave the 2′-acetylglucopyranosides of 12-hydroxynerolidol and 10,11-dihydro-12-hydroxynerolidol and the 2′,6′-diacetylglucopyranoside of 2-phenethyl alcohol as well as some common plant constituents, while the main constituent of several other G. aestivalis collections was a Diels—Alder adduct of multigilin and 8-hydroxy-α-phellandrene.
The sesquiterpene lactone content of collections of Ambrosia ambrosioides (Cav.) Payne, A. arborescens Mill., A. chenopodiifolia (Benth.) Payne, A. confertiflora (DC.) Rydb., A. cumanensis HBK, A. peruviana Willd., A. pumila (Nutt.) Gray and A. tenuifolia Spreng. has been investigated.
