Background: This study reviewed the psychological consequences of the novel coronavirus disease COVID-19 and the challenges that face post-traumatic interventions. COVID-19 pandemic has multifaceted psychological effects extending social stigmatization to COVID-19 patients, resulted in delaying in medical care and hiding important medical history, particularly of travel, this in turn will increase the risk of transmission. Objectives of the study: To explore if there is significant impacts of public health emergency COVID-19 on mental health among clients attending Al/Karkh Care centers. Methods: Cross-sectional study describes the mental health status among clients attending Al-Karkh Health Centers during the COVID-19 pandemic, using mental health reports from Mental Health Unit/Al-Karkh Health Directorate, which were collected from January to August. Using (SPSS25) for statistical analysis. Statistical test Chi-square used and p value of ⩽.05 was considered significant. Results: The percentages of psychological disturbances among clients is higher throughout the first 7 months of 2019 than 2020, till August the percentage of psychological disturbances started to hike up in 2020 than in 2019 (6%), (5.4%) respectively. Throughout the months of 2020 up to August there was significant difference between male and female clients in mental disturbances p value <.0001. Conclusion: The current study found that COVID-19 pandemic is expected to raise great challenges for mental health services in health care centers and constitute a mental health risk especially to women and girls compared to men.
Oseltamivir (Tamiflu), a neuraminidase inhibitor, an antiviral medication.Although of its effectiveness, still the fear of Tamiflu resistance is concerning.Tamiflu is available in limited pharmacies with an expensive price.It is available in hospitals for influenza after throat swab confirmation.Tamiflu is given as trials to give prophylaxis to COVID19 as there is no resistance to it yet in Iraq due to its limited use.This is a descriptive study, included 37 patients attended to Al-Dora Family Medical Centre from 1st to 31 of December.The cases ranged from 7 years old to 75 years old, presented with various symptoms included shortness of breath, fever, headache, diarrhea, malaise, chest pain, shivering, and dry cough.The study gives a conclusion that Tamiflu may have a role in prophylaxis against covid19 especially in countries with no resistance to it.
Background: Assessment of the nutritional status of children is a rising concern all over the world. Since school health services play an important role in the development of every child, so assessment of nutritional status of this segment of the population is essential. The term malnutrition “refers to both undernutrition and overnutrition”. Malnutrition has various forms including both macro and micronutrient deficiencies affect a large sector of the population which include; underweight, thinness, stunting, overweight and obesity according to WHO classification.Objectives: Assessment of the nutritional state of six years old children.Subjects and methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, comprehensive sampling technique, included children registered to schools, of ages six years old. Weight and height were measured for each child by using standard scales. nutritional status is assessed by using growth charts which include; BMI to age (Z score), weight to age (Z score), height to age (Z score) conducted in the catchment area of Al-Dora Family Health Center in Al-Dora suburb in Baghdad city capital of Iraq from 1/7/2017 to 25/9/2017. The study adopted by taking the records of schools’ registration of children of 6 years old. It included 1202 students.Results: Girls consists 50.9% of the sample. In general, malnutrition was prevalent in 25.4%, and it was significantly higher among boys. The analysis showed that 2.1% of the students were stunted, (5.9%) were underweight and (10.3%) were overweight. The prevalence of thinness was higher among boys (9.2%) while severe low weight was significantly higher among girls (1.5%).Conclusions: One in every four of the registered children was malnourished. The highest prevalent malnourished category was overweight and the lowest was severe stunting.
Ascites is a collection of fluid in peritoneal cavity.Abdominal distention, weight gain, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting are most common presentation.The most common causes of ascites are Disorders related to portal hypertension as liver diseases such as cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatitis and congestive heart failure, constrictive pericarditis.A 34 year female, G3P2A0, 17 week pregnant presented to Antenatal Care Clinic for regular checkup, complaining of rapid weight gain, generalized swelling, particularly; abdominal swelling and dyspnea attacks.The patient had history of hypothyroidism on thyroxin treatment, preeclampsia in previous pregnancy.By exam, the patient seemed to be fatigued with generalized edema, lower limb edema, abdominal over distention with normal fundus size and difficult to palpate fetal parts.Ultrasound show free fluid in peritoneal cavity suggesting ascites.
Cabergoline’s common brand name (Dostinex) is a long-acting dopamine receptor agonist, blocks prolactin secretion from the pituitary gland. It is used in Inhibition of physiological lactation, hyperprolactinaemia-associated disorders as polycystic ovarian syndrome, pituitary adenoma, and in Parkinson's disease; adjunct to levodopa treatment in Parkinson's disease. Common side effects of cabergoline; nausea, stomach upset, vomiting, constipation, heartburn, dizziness, tiredness, numbness, burning, and tingling in the hands, arms, legs, or feet. This report of two cases, take cabergoline showed a reduction in weight, resuming steady ovulation and regular menstruation after cabergoline treatment, with a possible side effect that these two cases developed follicular cyst following cabergoline treatment.
A 28 years female pregnant; 15 week +3 days gestational age, G0, P1, A0; presented for routine antenatal care visit in primary health care center. She had done the investigation in privet hospital showing rubella +ve IgM, CMV +ve IgG. Taking full history, the patient had simple flu like illness several weeks ago with no treatment is needed, no recent contact with a case of rubella nor recent vaccination. By examination, the patient is clinically normal. Ultrasound is done, no congenital anomaly, no signs of fetal infection, normal fetal wellbeing. I advise the patient to repeat the TORCH panel in 2 weeks later. The result by now; is showing rubella -ve IgM, CMV +ve IgG. Rubella false positive result can occur that require special attention to avoid termination of healthy pregnancy.
Background: Alcohol consumption is a well-known public health problem, especially among university students. It was poorly studied in Middle East, especially in Iraq, due to religious and social taboos. This study conducted to throw a light on the prevalence of Alcohol consumption among university students in Baghdad. Subjects and methods: A survey conducted in three universities (Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriyah and Al-Nahrain) from Baghdad city, in the duration between January and May 2015.A semi-structured questionnaire form used to collect the data from 1435 university students. The sample selected by multistage random sampling technique with probability proportion to size. Results: The average age (range) of the studied sample was 19.8 (18 - 24) years; more than a half of them were females 760 (53%). Alcohol consumption was reported by 9.7% (95%CI: 8.2% - 11.2%) of the participants (19.7% males vs. 0.8% females). Heavy Alcohol consumption was reported by 12.2% of consumers. Male students living out of their families or relatives and those of medical group colleges found to be risk factors for Alcohol consumption (PR= 2.65, 95% CI: 1.72 - 4.1) and (PR= 2.72, 95%CI: 1.48 - 5.01) respectively. No significant relations showed between demographic characters of female students and Alcohol consumption. Conclusions: Usage of Alcohol was relatively prevalent among university students in Baghdad, in spite of religious and social barriers in Iraq. Family and college staff supervision and education of the students with meetings targeting health risks and sequels of Alcohol hazardous consumption are the effective ways to control this practice.
