From 1999-2001, a male Canada lynx engaged in yearly exploratory movements across the greater Yellowstone area including the Teton Wilderness Area and Yellowstone National Park. For three consecutive summers. the lynx traversed a similar path in a northwesterly direction from the animal's home range in the Wyoming Range near Big Piney, Wyoming, to as far as the Henry's Lake Mountains, west of West Yellowstone, Montana. The longest travel distance was a minimum of 728 km during the summer of 2001. The male crossed several two-lane highways during his movements, including one highway that was crossed at least four times using the same general corridor between the Wyoming and Wind River Mountain Ranges.

Movements and habitat-use patterns were evaluated for a small population (n = 6 pairs) of Prairie Falcons (Falco mexicanus) nesting near Gillette, Wyoming. A total of 2462 falcon relocations was documented through telemetry. The average (n = 6) harmonic-mean 95%-contour home-range was 69 km2, whereas the average 75% contour was 26.6 km2. The convex polygon average home-range size was 29.4 kM2. The average 95% and 75% foraging-area contours, where points less than 500 m from the eyrie were excluded, were 11 1.8 km2 and 57.4 km2, respectively. The convex polygon foraging area was 74.7 km2. It is believed that the 95% foraging-area contour best represented falcon home ranges as confirmed through field observations. Habitat analyses showed that falcons selected foraging areas near their nest sites, in areas of open grassland, and did not overtly avoid oil wells. Falcons foraged in areas with an oil well density of approximately 1.4 wells/km2. These results suggested that falcons could tolerate low levels of oil development on foraging sites when their eyries were insulated from human disturbances.
A small population of Prairie Falcons (Falco mexicanus) (mean = 6 pairs/year) nesting in northcentral Wyoming quit nesting in response to a severe spring snowstorm in 1984. Temperatures during the April storm were similar to years when the falcons reproduced successfully, but the monthly snowfall was 89.2 cm as compared to the 30-yr monthly average of 29.92 cm (90% CI = 21.44 -38.40 cm). Analysis of prey abundance suggested that significantly fewer prey-sized birds were present on the study area in 1984 than in 1985, possibly as a result of the storm. The nesting failure may have been in response to reductions in avian prey populations.
