Surf tourism, a form of sustainable experiential tourism, directly shapes the socio-economicsustainability of coastal destinations. However, existing research has not uncovered howcognitive appraisal processes and status-seeking motives interact to shape tourists' behav-ioral intentions and resilience amid experiential setbacks. Based on a cross-sectional surveydesign, and grounded in Cognitive Appraisal Theory (CAT) and the Theory of the LeisureClass (TLC), this study empirically tests an integrated socio-cognitive framework usingdata from 395 surf tourists in Hainan, China. Data were analyzed using partial least squaresstructural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results demonstrate that cognitive appraisals(outcome desirability, agency, certainty) and status-driven imperatives are powerful pre-dictors of behavioral intentions. Conspicuous Consumption Motivation (CCM) acts as acritical boundary condition, amplifying the positive effect of affective states on intentions,and serving as a psychological buffer that facilitates consumer resilience against tourismsetbacks. We further extend a "social-symbolic reappraisal" mechanism-rather thana directly measured variable-through which tourists reframe negative experiences as a"badge of honor" to signal leisure-class status via the moderation effect of CCM. This fills animportant gap in existing research on emotion regulation and tourist behavior. This studyclarifies the psychological pathway of behavioral sustainability in symbolic experientialtourism and delivers high-impact actionable insights for coastal destinations: operators canleverage the social-symbolic reappraisal mechanism to design identity-focused experiencenarratives, stabilize tourist flow and revenue streams, increase investments in sustain-able infrastructure and marine conservation, and benefit from sustainable management ofcoastal surf tourism destinations.
As AI-generated content (AIGC) apps become more important in work, school, and everyday life, it’s more crucial than ever to know what keeps people using them. Users often have problems because of task-technology misalignment, forming habits, and cultural norms that have a strong foundation in society, especially in places that are changing quickly and have very different cultures. It is informed by dual-process theory, investigates the interaction within deliberate cognitive evaluations, specifically perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU), and automatic affective responses, such as satisfaction and habitual behaviors, in influencing continuance intention, with Confucian values acting as a cultural moderator. The partial least squares structural equation modeling technique (PLS-SEM) was used to look at data from 421 Chinese AIGC users who worked in professional design locations in Beijing. The findings reveal that both task-technology fit (TTF) and individual-technology fit (ITF) exert positive influences on cognitive and affective evaluations, with ITF exhibiting a consistently more robust effect. Satisfaction fosters habit formation, and cognitive, affective, and habitual factors collectively forecast continuance intention. Confucian values lessen the effects of PU on the desire to continue and of satisfaction on the formation of habits. These results combine dual-process mechanisms, technology fit theory, and cultural moderation to give us theoretically sound ideas for keeping people interested and designing AI-driven content systems.
This study adopts the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and hypothesizes necessary conditions to examine the impact of technology characteristics, internal and external stakeholders' roles, and the business environment to facilitate sustainable technology adoption. Data were gathered from 240 clothing firms using a structured survey questionnaire. Customer pressure, technological compatibility, relative advantage, government support, environmental uncertainty, and financial strength significantly impact sustainable technology adoption in the garment industry. However, regulatory pressure and human resources quality do not impact substantially sustainable technology adoption, which contradicts the literature and calls for further research.
This article presents a computational analysis of academic collaboration platform (ACP) usage, focusing on cross-cultural differences between scholars from China and Malaysia. Using data from 31 top-ranked academic institutions on the ResearchGate platform, this study employs quantitative methods to assess engagement metrics, such as Research Interest Scores, followers, and academic interactions. The findings reveal significant cultural influences on ACP usage, with Malaysian scholars showing higher levels of interaction, particularly in discussion and Q & A activities, compared to their Chinese counterparts. By integrating Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory with computational analysis, the study demonstrates how cultural factors like Power Distance and Uncertainty Avoidance shape digital academic collaboration behaviors. This research contributes to the understanding of cross-cultural engagement in academic platforms, providing a theoretical and data-driven foundation for enhancing international academic cooperation strategies.
This study investigates the relationship between the digital gap and the development of human capital concerning economic inequality. Despite the swift progression of the digital economy, which presents novel chances for knowledge acquisition and skill development. The unequal access to the internet has deepened disparities in human capital across different socioeconomic groups, thereby contributing to broader economic inequality. The digital divide is primarily influenced by a combination of factors: access to technology, digital literacy, and financial circumstances. We examine specific regions and demographic groups to analyze the impact of digital skills on human capital development and employment opportunities in countries with differing economic statuses. The primary finding of the studies indicates that, particularly in disadvantaged regions, digital literacy significantly enhances individuals' economic mobility. To ensure equitable access for marginalized populations, it presents policy recommendations centered on targeted educational reforms in digital literacy and infrastructure investments to bridge the digital gap. Based on these findings, policymakers should prioritize creating inclusive digital education programs and improving internet accessibility in rural areas to reduce economic disparities. These insights include strengthening digital education policies and prioritizing internet infrastructure in marginalized areas, aiming to narrow socioeconomic disparities.
This paper examines the spatio-temporal interaction and driving factors between urban compactness and carbon emission intensity in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration from 2010 to 2021. Through the analysis by using comprehensive evaluation, coupling coordination degree model and gray correlation model. Data analysis revealed a steady upward trend in the compactness of the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration. However, there are noticeable regional differences in the compactness of cities. Additionally, carbon emission intensity of urban agglomerations decreases year by year. The rate of change in the carbon emission intensity values varies slightly from city to city. The coupling degree and the coupling coordination degree of urban compactness and carbon emission intensity in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration are gradually moving towards a coordinated development. Factors such as industrial structure, urbanization level, technological innovation, government intervention and environmental livability, will affect the coupling correlation between urban compactness and carbon emission intensity in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration. Policy recommendations for city construction should emphasize high-quality urban development and innovative low-carbon urban development models.
The digital revolution has become the internet an indispensable instrument for the dissemination of information. This is particularly evident in rural China, where it significantly contributes to the development of human capital. This study investigates the effect of online information dissemination on rural human capital, particularly focusing on the role of digital literacy on agricultural productivity. Agriculturalists proficient in computer usage may access valuable information, such as market data and agronomic advice, facilitating improved decision making and enhanced operational efficiency. This, thus, aids them in tackling various challenges encountered by rural regions. The research employed a mixed methods approach, using national statistics, surveys, and comprehensive interviews to assess the influence of internet based knowledge on rural human capital. The findings indicate that instructing farmers in the proper use of digital platforms can enhance their productivity and foster sustainable development in rural regions. The implementation of targeted training programs and appropriate standards is essential, as evidenced by issues such as inadequate infrastructure and insufficient digital competencies. These difficulties must be resolved to facilitate the unobstructed flow of information, enhance agricultural practices, and provide new possibilities in rural regions. We provide critical insights on how digital literacy may bridge the digital divide and enhance economic development in rural regions by facilitating access to online resources.
This study employs big data analytics and SciBERT to conduct cluster and linear regression analyses of research collaboration between China and Malaysia. Originating from China's "Belt and Road" initiative, this collaboration has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership, fostering advancements in economics, agriculture, technology, education, and more. Establishing multi-dimensional strategic relationships aligns with global trends, emphasizing technological innovation's pivotal role. Both nations have implemented policies to boost science and technology, influencing their collaborative efforts. Research collaboration serves as a driving force for technological progress, intertwining with cultural exchange. The study focuses on the trends, characteristics, and influencing factors of China-Malaysia research collaboration using data from the Web of Science. The findings provide insights for optimizing collaboration models and guiding future policies, contributing to the communication and development between China and Malaysia.
Amid growing environmental challenges, enhancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance is vital for sustainable development. In China's economic transformation, strengthened environmental regulations require greater corporate responsibility for carbon reduction and energy conservation. Using data from Chinese A-share listed firms (2014-2023), this study explores how green innovation influences corporate ESG performance and its underlying mechanisms. The results reveal that green innovation has a significant impact on ESG performance, with digital transformation acting as a partial mediator. In addition, executive green perceptions strengthen this relationship, while public emergencies weaken it. The positive effect of green innovation is more pronounced in Eastern regions, state-owned firms, non-growth enterprises, heavy-polluting industries, and the manufacturing sector. These findings suggest that firms should prioritize green innovation and digital transformation as strategic levers, while policymakers should implement targeted, region- and industry-specific incentives to support sustainable development.
Social commerce(s-commerce), which emphasizes the predominance of customers, has become an important tool of company social marketing and provides new challenges to businesses in attracting customers. Based on customer-dominant logic theory, this study presents a model of the impact of electronic customer-to-customer interaction(eCCI) on customer stickiness with the mediation effect of customer value co-creation dimensions, specifically functional value and hedonic value in the s-commerce context and self-efficacy as a moderator in light of customer-dominant logic. This study adopted a survey method and obtained data from users in two s-commerce sites in China. The statistical technique of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and the analytical process of necessary condition analysis (NCA) were employed to analyze the data. The PLS-SEM results indicate that eCCI influences customer value co-creation, which in turn affects the consumer stickiness of s-commerce sites.The moderated mediation results showed that self-efficacy moderated the relationship between eCCI and customer stickiness.The NCA results identified the eCCI is meaningful and significant necessary conditions for fostering customer value co-creation and customer stickiness. The combined findings demonstrated to researchers and practitioners how to identify the critical factor that influence customer value co-creation and customer stickiness. The study provides novel insights into the mechanism underlying why consumers “stick” to s-commerce websites. Furthermore, the moderated mediation model extended customer-dominant logic and demonstrated the moderating influence of self-efficacy. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.
Purpose Social commerce (s-commerce) has gained widespread popularity as a social platform where customers engage in resource-sharing activities such as information exchange, advice-seeking and expressing their opinions on mutual interests. However, existing studies have not fully comprehended the drivers of electronic customer-to-customer interaction (eCCI) and how such behavior contributes to the customer “stick” on s-commerce sites. This study develops the Motivation–Opportunity–Ability (MOA) theory and investigates the impact of MOA factors on eCCI, which in turn affects customer stickiness. Design/methodology/approach A survey was used to acquire data from 455 valid respondents, and the research employed a combination of fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) and structural equation modeling. Findings The results revealed associations between perceived self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, tie strength with other customers, eCCI and customer stickiness. Originality/value Considering the limited availability of complete eCCI frameworks in existing scholarly works, the authors present valuable perspectives on the role of consumer characteristics as both antecedents and consequences of eCCI. Additionally, this study proposes a research agenda for the field of eCCI on s-commerce sites.
This study explores the challenges and management strategies of water resources in 15 Middle Eastern countries, framed within the context of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6). This study used 123 water resource policies in Middle Eastern countries as data and employed a pre-trained large language model based on RoBERTa, trained on the SNLI and MNLI datasets, to perform text classification tasks. In combination with the TF-IDF algorithm for keyword extraction, this approach is used to systematically evaluate and compare the water resource policies of these countries. The results reveal that the region faces significant water stress, exacerbated by high population growth, climate variability, and political instability. While countries like Kuwait and the UAE utilize advanced desalination technologies to mitigate water scarcity, policy gaps in sanitation and transboundary cooperation persist. Jordan's innovative partnerships for water resource management highlight the potential of collaborative frameworks to enhance regional water security. The findings suggest that comprehensive water management strategies, including technological innovation and public-private partnerships, are essential for addressing the region's pressing water challenges. This research contributes to understanding the complexities of water governance in arid regions and offers practical implications for policymakers aiming to achieve sustainable water resource management.
Social commerce facilitates communication among customers worldwide and promotes electronic customer-to-customer interaction (eCCI). Considerable research has been undertaken on consumer behaviour, but the understanding of the factors that drive eCCI is limited, particularly in the social commerce context. This limitation arises from a lack of theoretical frameworks to account for such behaviour. By using motivation-opportunity-ability (MOA) theory, this study aims to observe how MOA theory constructs (intrinsic motivation, perceived self-efficacy and tie strength with other customers) integrate and impact eCCI. A survey method is utilised to collect data, and structural equation modelling is used with 359 customers from social commerce sites in China. Results demonstrate that eCCI behaviour is strongly determined by intrinsic motivation, perceived self-efficacy and tie strength with other customers. Among these factors, intrinsic motivation partially mediates the association between perceived self-efficacy and eCCI. Moreover, tie strength with other customers moderates the relationship between intrinsic motivation and eCCI. Overall, this study introduces a new way of assessing eCCI and reports eCCI behaviour as a new and dynamic approach to explore how its outcomes can be enhanced in social commerce marketing. Such outcomes may help social commerce and service providers in delivering their services.
In response to increasing concerns about water ecology sustainability, this paper employs scientometric analysis to examine research trends at seven leading Chinese ocean universities from 2010 to 2021. Using CiteSpace software to analyze data from the Web of Science, we explored a comprehensive dataset of dissertations and published papers across disciplines such as water ecology, marine biology, fisheries, and environmental sciences. Our analysis shows a significant rise in research output after 2016, highlighting the pivotal role these universities play in advancing water ecology research. Through keyword co-occurrence and clustering analyses, we identified shifting research focuses, ranging from biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics to emerging topics like water quality management and ecological restoration. This study not only consolidates existing research achievements but also provides valuable insights for shaping future research directions in water ecology.
Purpose This study examines the factors of sustainable technology adoption (STA) in the Bangladeshi’s apparel industry and its impact on the environmental performance and other firm performances. Mainly, this study adopts stakeholder theory and hypothesizes necessary conditions to examine different stakeholders’ roles to facilitate STA and ameliorate firm performances such as environmental, financial and competitive advantages. Design/methodology/approach It is an empirical study which collected 240 responses from Bangladeshi apparel firms. Garment factories were considered as the unit of analysis. Findings Customer pressure, top management, competition among firms and government support significantly and positively impact STA. Surprisingly, regulatory pressure has no significant impact on the Bangladeshi’s apparel industry, which contradicts most existing literature in the field. The findings show that sustainable technology brings increased simultaneously enhances environmental outcomes and enhances financial performances and competitive advantage. Originality/value This study fills up the voids that exist in the STA literature in the clothing industry in the clothing industry’s STA literature. Specifically, western buyers have more influence than regulatory pressure to adopt sustainable technology and sustainable manufacturing for the Bangladeshi garments industry. Moreover, it proposes that sustainable technology can enhance firms’ competitive advantage in selling their products in the West besides environmental-friendly apparel manufacturers.
The article aims to provide a comprehensive examination of the extant literature on online hedonic consumers’ privacy. Further, the authors attempt to identify a gap in online hedonic consumer behaviour focusing on their privacy. The authors systematically reviewed the extant literature on online hedonic consumers and their various privacy-related issues. The discussion on ‘privacy’, ‘online shopping’, ‘hedonic consumption’ and ‘hedonic-motivation system (HMS)’ elucidated any confusion held by the researchers and readers. This review offered insight into the current status of research in this field and recognized the factor ‘privacy’ as a gap in the existing model of online hedonic consumer behaviour that could be properly explored in further scholarly empirical research. The exclusion of non-English language articles and the lack of inclusion of different kinds of hedonic products or services other than ‘online shopping’ were the limitations of this article. Managers and e-commerce vendors could utilize the findings of this review to address their hedonic consumers’ privacy for the growth of their online businesses. This review lays the groundwork to explore online hedonic consumers’ privacy in detail. To address the gaps identified through this study, the development of a new overarching model of online hedonic consumer behaviour is suggested for future researchers, which might provide a theoretical framework for scholars to further examine the effect of privacy on online hedonic consumers.
Social commerce plays an important role in the service market and has risen in importance due to the rise of social network sites. This paper presents a comparative study of the development of social commerce driven by China’s practice and research in this field. By applying knowledge mapping, this paper makes a bibliometric analysis of 827 articles in Scopus (mostly written in English) and 673 articles in CNKI articles (written in Chinese) related to social commerce. Differences and similarities in research focus between English language papers (through Scopus) and Chinese language papers (through CNKI) are deeply explored. The results show that (1) In CNKI, research on social commerce decreases, while in Scopus, it is increasing. Now, China has the most literature on social commerce. (2) CNKI and Scopus each have their focus and complementary points. (3) The first five research topics of CNKI are group buying, social commerce, e-commerce, consumer and O2O. Scopus’s first five research topics are purchase interaction, social networking, collaborative commerce, group buying, and privacy concern. The new subdivision of social commerce (e.g., short video shopping, live shopping), mobile commerce and customer engagement are expected to become an important direction of future research. CNKI and Scopus have different and complementary focuses, and scholars should refer to both databases to better understand evolving research landscape on social commerce. This research combined with the bibliometric method is helpful for researchers and practitioners to better understand the development of social commerce.
