LA-ICP-MS U-Pb isotope dating of volcanic single zircons from the Early Cretaceous Jiande Group in the Zhoucun—Yanxia cross section,Shouchang basin,western Zhejiang,SE China,at State Key Laboratory of Mineral Deposit Research,Nanjing University shows that the Jiande Group was formed during 134~115 Ma,the middle—late time of the Early Cretaceous.Subdividedly,the Laocun Formation(Fm.),Huangjian Fm.,Shouchang Fm.and Hengshan Fm.were dated as 134~125 Ma,125~118 Ma,125~121 Ma and 121~115 Ma,corresponding to the Hauterivian—Barremian,early—middle Aptian,early Aptian and middle Aptian in age,respectively.However,the Jiande Group could range down to the lowest Upper Jurassic if the 4th bed(150~133 Ma) of the cross section is considered as a part of the group.It is proposed that the Huangjian Fm.is the coeval volcanic sediment to the Shouchang Fm.and the Hengshan Fm.in space,but does not succeed beneath or above in sequence as former worker's thought.It is suggested that the Shouchang Fm.deposited in both the Shouchang basin and the Lishui basin was almost simultaneous,and the Hengshan Fm.is roughly correlative with the Guantou Fm.in temporal.
An investigation on the mid-Cretaceous continental sediments was recently conducted in both SW Zhejiang and SW Fujian Provinces, SE China. It is the first time the Cretaceous paleosols in mainland China have been reported. Three types of paleosols are recognized, such as, argillisol, calcisol, and oxisol on the basis of observation on eleven cross sections and stops in the field. The argillisol is characterized by burrow and root trace within reddish (silty) mudrock, the calcisol marks by pedogenic carbonate concretion within pale purple calcareous mudrock, and the oxisol is the association of ferric tegument and concretion within reddish purple, grayish orange siltstone, and mudrock. According to climate direction of paleosol types, it is proposed that it could have been in aridity or semiaridity of subtropic climate during the Aptian-Albian epoch of the mid-Cretaceous in SW Zhejiang, where the calcisols were recorded in the Hengshan Formation, Zhongdai Formation, Jinhua Formation, Guantou Formation, and Chaochuan Formation; at the same time, it was in semiaridity of tropic climate in SW Fujian which was recorded by oxisols within the Bantou Formation, Junkou Formation, and Shaxian Formation. In the Cenomanian, it could become more moist in SW Zhejiang as evidenced by the production of the argillisol within the Quxian Formation with abundant organic activities, whereas the paleoclimate in SW Fujian in the Cenomanian might be similar with that in the Aptian-Albian even if the sediments were transformed to huge thick conglomerates (so-called “Danxia Landform”) by tectonic uplift processes.
The Baishuiyang Geological Landscape in Bingnan County,Fujian Province is famous for a charming and gentle scenery and Shallow Water Square and named for "a scenic masterpiece in the world and one of cosmos riddles".By investigation and study,it is considered that the Baishuiyang Geological Landscape is a flat-bottom bedrock riverbed formed by a prolonged erosion of running water of Jiulingxi stream and Xianbaxi stream in the relative stability stage of crustal movement.The quartz orthophyre is a material basis forming the flat-bottom bedrock riverbed and the weathering and denudation and water erosion are the main exogenic geological process taking shape of the Baishuiyang Geological Landscape.The water erosion process also gets into shape of the different landform such as waterworn bedrock ripple marks,waterworn recess and potholes,running-water lateral erosion hollows,bow-typed hore walls,wave-shaped hore walls and erosional terraces.
Based on the comparative study of the eastern and western terraces taken shape in lower Pleistocene in Shenhu Bay,it is shown that there exist moving faults since Holocene in the area,which provides with new evidences for the interpretation of symbiotic origin of both the palaeontological wonders,ancient forest and ancient oyster reef.By the comprehensive study of the strata and recent tectonics since late Pleistocene in the surveyed area,it is considered that the intergrowth of ancient forest and ancient oyster reef results from the sea-level elevation and subsidence and neotectonic activity.
The Cretaceous red-bed basin in Taining County is made up of three basins:Zhoukou Basin,Meikou Basin and Longan Basin.The lithostratigraphy distributed in the basins is Shaxian Formation(K_2s) and Chongan Formation(K_2c) of Upper Cretaceous.Because no palaeontological fossils which can be used to determine the stratigraphic time are discovered in the red-bed basin,the stratigraphic time of the red-bed basin has been considered as Late Cretaceous epoch for a long time only on the basis of the comparison with other red-bed basins in Fujian Province.In the recent fieldwork,plant remains and sporo-pollen fossils are discovered in the strata of Shaxian Formation in the Longan Basin of Taining County and sporo-pollen fossils in the strata of Chongan Formation in the Meikou Basin,which provide with reliable palaeontological evidences of determinating the stratigraphic time.Based on the characteristics of plant remains and sporo-pollen assemblages,it is inferred that geologic time of the strata Shaxian Formation of the Cretaceous red-bed basin in Taining County is early-mid stages of Late Cretaceous epoch,which is equivalent to the Cenomanian-Turonian Stage and that geologic time of the strata Chongan Formation is the late stage of Late Cretaceous epoch,which is equal to the Coniacian-Maastrichtian Stage.According to the characteristics of sporo-pollen assemblage from the strata Chongan Formation of the Meikou Basin,the sporo-pollen assemblage Pinuspollenites-Ulmipollenites minor is established,which can stand for the sporo-pollen assemblage of the late stage of Late Cretaceous epoch in Fujian Province.
The intrusive potash feldspar granite porphyry of Late Cretaceous Shinuishan Formation is distributed over the main peak of Shinuishan Mountain.The Mountain presents magnific and spectacular and the granite pebbly in the surveyed area show all kinds of strange shapes.The many microtopography such as different depth of stone ridges and stone cisterns and(different) sizes of stone mortals,basin-shaped rocks and rock hollows can be found on the granite pebbly,fort-shaped rocks and rock walls,which are composed of a particular(waterworn) granite pebbly landform.It is considered by researches that the potash feldspar granite porphyry is the material basis of forming the waterworn granite pebbly and the weathering,denudation,true brinelling bruising by atmospheric water and the water erosion are the main external powers of forming rock ridges,stone cisterns,stone mortal,basin-shaped rocks and stone hollows.

福建德化汤头-大铭火山基底断隆带位于周宁-华安火山基底断隆带的中部,以印支期的隆起-伸展构造和燕山期的地垒构造活动表现较为明显.该带构造形成及演化机制可较好诠释周宁-华安火山基底断隆带演化趋势.进一步探讨了该区域多种矿产形成及分布的规律.
