Nineteen patients 18 to 80 years of age with 15 to 50% total body surface area (TBSA) burns were enrolled in the study for 10 days. Three patients were excluded; two advanced to oral diet alone and one required TPN. Sixteen patients (4F, 12M) with a mean age of 46.5±17.7 years and a mean TBSA bum size of 26±8.7% completed the study. Feedings were initiated within 42±9 hours of admission via nasojejunal tube at full strength 25 cchr and advanced every 4 hours to goal. All patients received stool softeners, antibiotics and H2 receptor antagonists as part of the Burn Center protocol.
