Background: It is very important for nurses, who are an indispensable member of the health care team in the intensive care unit, to be equipped with high-level knowledge and skills in patient care management to improve the quality of patient life. Purpose: This study aimed to develop virtual reality software for intensive care patient care management and examine the effect of this software on novice recruited intensive care nurses. Methods: The randomized controlled study was conducted with a total of 47 nurses. The data of the study were collected with “Nurse Introductory Information Form”, “Knowledge Level Questionnaire”, “Clinical Practice Skills Observation Form”, “Problem Solving Inventory”, “Clinical Decision Making Scale in Nursing” and “State Anxiety Inventory” Results: The mean knowledge scores of the nurses in the control group 1 week and 1 month after the intervention were found to be higher than the pre-intervention measurements (p<0.05). In both groups, the level of problem solving 1 month after the intervention was higher than the measurements before and 1 week after the intervention (p<0.05). Conclusion: Innovative training methods such as virtual reality contributed positively to the short-term problem-solving skills of nurses, but longer-term or repeated applications may be required to measure clinical decision-making and knowledge levels. PURPOSE:This study investigated the short-term effects of a mobile game application developed for children with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) on knowledge, health-related beliefs, attitudes, and clinical parameters. DESIGN AND METHODS:This randomized controlled trial included 64 children with CKD (32 per group). A mobile game tailored for children aged 11-14 years was developed. Data were collected using a Data Collection Form, Clinical Parameters Follow-up Form, Information Form on Chronic Renal Failure, Healthy Lifestyle Belief Scale for Adolescents, and the Child's Attitude Toward His/Her Disease Scale. RESULTS:Mean ages were 12.78 ± 1.21 and 12.65 ± 1.31 years in the experimental and control groups, with no significant demographic differences (p > 0.05). Children using the mobile game showed significantly higher knowledge, healthy lifestyle belief, and disease attitude scores at 1 and 3 months than controls (p < 0.05). No significant between-group differences were found in blood pressure or pulse rate (p > 0.05). Initial differences in iron-binding capacity and potassium did not remain significant after correction. Usability was high (score: 276.18 ± 2.71/280). CONCLUSIONS:The intervention was associated with short-term improvements in knowledge, healthy lifestyle beliefs, and attitudes toward CKD; given the absence of an attention-matched control and confounding of modality with educational dosage, findings should be interpreted as association rather than established effectiveness. No significant effects were observed on clinical parameters. The internally developed knowledge instrument lacks formal factor-analytic or criterion validation. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS:Pediatric nurses can support disease management in children with CKD by incorporating mobile game-based educational tools into routine care, recognizing that current evidence supports short-term educational benefit rather than established clinical effects.
BACKGROUND:Despite the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccination, the occurrence of side effects has raised concerns among healthcare providers and the general population. METHODS:The aim of the study was to investigation the administration technique of COVID-19 vaccines and the side effects observed after vaccination. The data for the descriptive and cross-sectional study were collected using the "Patient Information Form", "Vaccine Administration Checklist Form", and "COVID-19 Vaccine Side Effects Monitoring Form". The STROBE checklist was followed to ensure methodological rigour. RESULTS:Binary logistic regression analysis conducted in the study identified gender and vaccine type as factors influencing the risk of side effects. Women were found to have a 3.887 times lower likelihood of experiencing side effects (p = 0.005). Also, individuals vaccinated with Turkovac and Sinovac were found to have a lower risk of side effects compared to those vaccinated with BioNTech (p = 0.006 and p = 0.003, respectively). CONCLUSIONS:The study findings show that the most commonly observed side effects after COVID-19 vaccination are pain at the injection site and tenderness in the extremity. Additionally, gender and vaccine type were found to be significant factors influencing the risk of side effects.
Background/Objectives: As the frequency and impact of global disasters intensify, the role of nursing in disaster management has become increasingly vital. Analyzing the evolution of disaster nursing research can inform preparedness strategies and enhance clinical responses. The aim of the study was to explore and visualize trends in research on disaster, disaster management, disaster nursing, and disaster preparedness from 1980 to 2024. Methods: A scientific mapping and performance analysis were conducted using Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, and Excel. The search strategy included the keywords ‘disaster’, ‘disaster management’, ‘disaster nursing’, ‘disaster preparedness’, ‘disaster training’, and ‘disaster care,’ searched across all fields in the Web of Science Core Collection database. A total of 1331 publications from a dataset of 21,703 articles were included in the analysis. Results: The most common keywords were “disaster”, “nursing”, “COVID-19”, and “emergency preparedness”. The USA led in research output, followed by Sichuan University as the top institution. Thearticle, “Disaster preparedness among nurses: a systematic review of literature”, was the most cited, with 216 citations. English was the predominant language, and most publications were articles. Conclusions: Research in disaster nursing, management, and preparedness has grown significantly, particularly since 2005, emphasizing the critical need for improved disaster education and response strategies. This study was not registered.
Günümüzde sanal gerçeklik teknolojisinin hemşirelik eğitiminde kullanımı yaygınlaşmakta ve bu uygulamanın olumlu etkileri bulunmaktadır. Temel hemşirelik becerilerinin öğretiminde sanal gerçeklik kullanımının öğrencilerin bilişsel, duyuşsal ve psikomotor becerileri üzerine etkisini belirlemektir. Araştırmada “Cochrane”, “EBSCOhost”, “PubMed”, “Ulakbim”, “Medline”, “CIHANL”, “JBI”, ‘Scopus’, “Science Direct” ve “Google Scholar” veri tabanları tarandı. Veri tabanları taranırken “hemşire eğitimi, sanal gerçeklik, sanal gerçeklik simülasyonu, temel hemşirelik becerileri, hemşirelik öğrencileri, beceri eğitimi, bilgi düzeyi, duyuşsal düzey, psikomotor beceri düzeyi” anahtar kelimeleri kullanılmıştır. Tarama sonucunda bulunan çalışma sayıları veri tabanlarına göre kategorize edilerek PRISMA-P akış şemasında gösterilmiştir. Çalışmaların kalite değerlendirmeleri Joanna Briggs Enstitüsü kontrol listeleri kullanılarak yapılmıştır. PROSPERO kayıt numarası CRD4202340107’dir. Bu çalışmada, literatür taraması 24 Ocak 2023 ile 4 Ağustos 2023 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada, dahil edilme kriterlerini karşılayan 14 çalışma analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmaların 10’unun randomize kontrollü deneysel, dördünün ise yarı deneysel olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Çalışmaların çoğu sırasıyla Türkiye, Kanada ve Tayvan’da yapılmıştır ve toplam örneklem büyüklüğü 970’tir. Çalışmaların kalite değerlendirme puanları yüksek düzeyde bulunmuştur. Sanal gerçeklik kullanımının öğrencilerin bilişsel, duyuşsal ve psikomotor becerileri üzerinde olumlu bir etkisi olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
Background: Healthy lifestyle behaviours among nursing students are shaped by sociocultural and educational factors, which may influence future health practices and professional roles. Comparing students from different countries provides insight into how cultural and socioeconomic contexts affect health-promoting behaviours. Methods: The research is a comparative cross-sectional study with 462 Turkish and 429 Spanish nursing students (N = 891). Data was collected through 15 socio-demographic questions and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II. Descriptive statistics and tests of mean differences were carried out. Results: The Spanish nursing students showed healthier lifestyles in comparison with Turkish, especially in physical activity, nutrition, spiritual growth and interpersonal relationships. Nevertheless, stress management is higher in Turkish. Spanish students’ body max index was higher and they consumed more alcohol, while Turkish smoke a higher number of cigarettes. Men pointed higher in physical activity, nutrition, stress management and healthy lifestyle behaviours in general, while women pointed higher in interpersonal relationships. The students in higher academic years have more positive lifestyles behaviours. The training in healthy lifestyles in the formal education was higher in Turkey, while the Spanish students train it more outside of the university. Conclusion: In Turkey the smoking cessation have to be promoted while in Spain the decrease in alcohol consumption is the key.
Amaç: Bu çalışma hemşirelerin santral venöz katater bakım ve takibine ilişkin bilgi düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla planlanmıştır. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı olarak gerçekleştirilen araştırma, Mart 2022-Aralık 2023 tarihleri arasında, yoğun bakımda çalışan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 197 hemşire ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler literatür doğrultusunda oluşturulan “Tanıtıcı Form” ve “Santral Venöz Katater Yerleştirilmesi ve Bakım Uygulamaları Formu” ile Google formlar üzerinden toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde IBM (SPSS 25) progra mında yüzdelik, ortalama ve çapraz tablo hesaplamaları kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan hemşirelerin santral venöz katater yerleştirilme sine ilişkin en fazla doğru yanıt verdiği ifadeler “Steril gazlı bez pansumanları, örtü bütünlüğü bozulursa, gevşerse, ıslanırsa, gözle görünür şekilde kirlenirse veya örtü altında nem, drenaj sıvısı/kan bulunursa örtü derhal değiştirilmelidir” (%98.5) ve “Pansuman için steril gazlı bez ya da yarı geçirgen steril şeffaf örtüler kullanılabilir” (%98) maddeleri olmuştur. Setler, bağlantı konnektörleri ve infüzyonlara yönelik bilgiler sorulduğunda ise “Lipid içeren parenteral nütrisyon solüsyonlarının uy gulaması için, mümkünse ayrı bir lümen kullanılmalıdır” (%97.5) ifadesi en çok doğru yanıt verilen madde olmuştur. Sonuçlar ve Öneriler: Yapılan araştırma sonuçlarına göre hemşirelerin sıkça uyguladıkları SVK bakımına ilişkin bilgilerinin iyi düzeyde olduğu ancak arter ba sıncı izleme seti gibi daha seyrek gerçekleştirilen parametrelere ilişkin bilgilerinin güncellenmesi gerektiği belirlenmiştir. Hemşirelere düzenli aralıklarla güncel ve kanıta dayalı bakım uygulamalarını içeren eğitimler düzenlenmeli ve bilgiye ulaş ma kaynakları tanıtılarak eğitimleri güçlendirilmelidir. Hemşirelerin bilgi düzeyle ri düzenli aralıklarla tekrar değerlendirilmeli ve eksik-yanlış bilgiler giderilmelidir. Objective: The aims of the study was to identify and visualize studies conducted between 2006 and 2025 in the fields of sepsis and artificial intelligence in intensive care units, with the aim of revealing trends in this area. Materials and Methods: The data were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database on May 2, 2025. Performance analysis, visualization, mapping, and bibliometric analyses were performed using the R software program Biblioshiny interface. For bibliometric data, a search was conducted in the WoS database using the keywords "intensive care" OR "ICU" OR "intensive care unit" OR "ICUs" AND "artificial intelligence" OR "machine learning" OR "deep learning" AND 'Sepsis' OR "sepsis prediction" in all files. The analysis of the study was conducted using 1,072 publication data. Results: The study found that the average annual number of articles produced in intensive care units in the fields of sepsis and artificial intelligence obtained from the WoS database was 2.76, with an annual growth rate of 27.63. A total of 1,072 articles were produced in 371 journals between 2006 and 2025. A total of 1,531 keywords were used. The average number of citations per publication was 18.13. It was observed that authors used 2,255 keywords across all publications, 7,015 authors were involved in these publications, only 6 articles had a single author, the average number of co-authors per article was 8.95, and the international co-authorship rate was 21.64%. Conclusions: The results of the bibliometric analysis showed that studies in this field are extremely recent. Studies conducted between 2006 and 2025 on sepsis and artificial intelligence in intensive care units have been included in the literature.
Aim The use of care packages has positive effects on patient satisfaction and quality of care. The study aims to review the effectiveness of care packages in experimental postgraduate theses conducted with care packages in the nursing field in Turkey and to examine the data obtained from systematically. Method The universe of the study consists of postgraduate theses accessed from the database of the Council of Higher Education Thesis Center (YÖKTEZ) in Türkiye between 24 November 2023 and 6 December 2023. In the review, master’s and doctoral theses that evaluated the effects of care package applications in nursing care on outcomes, published in Turkish, research design randomized controlled, quasi-experimental and experimental, open access, and containing the keywords “care package”, “care protocol”, “nursing care” and “postgraduate thesis studies” were selected. Six postgraduate theses that met the research criteria constituted the sample of the systematic review. Results Of the graduate theses included in the study, 66.6% were quasi-experimental, 16.6% were experimental, and 16.6% were experimental. PRISMA-P was used as the protocol for the systematic review and writing of the article. As a result of the six theses included in the study, it was found that all the care packages used had positive effects on the examined parameters (100%). Conclusion It is seen that care package applications made in line with evidence-based approaches reduce complications and provide benefits in infection control and prevention. In this direction, it is recommended that care packages be disseminated
Background: The use of virtual reality is increasing in nursing to ensure patient safety and to improve the quality of care in the education of nurses. Aim: To develop a virtual reality software for intensive care patient care management and to investigate the effect of this software on novice intensive care nurses. Study Design: This study protocol contains a randomized controlled experimental design research. The nurses will be divided into control (n = 34) and study groups (n = 34) by randomization. The research will be conducted in four steps: (1) according to Kolcaba's Comfort Theory, the protocol for care management of an intensive care patient will be prepared and transferred to the virtual reality software, (2) the nurses in both groups will be given theoretical training, (3) a routine orientation training programme will be applied to the nurses in the control group, and those in the study group will be given virtual reality goggles. (4) Tools such as a 'Clinical Practice Skills Observation Form and Knowledge Level Questionnaire' and 'Problem-Solving Inventory', 'Clinical Decision-Making Scale in Nursing', 'State Anxiety Inventory' and 'Satisfaction Level Questionnaire' will be applied to both groups before commencing the theoretical training, 1 week after the application and in the first month of the application. Results: This protocol describes an experimental study aiming to test the impact of virtual reality software on novice intensive care nurses in the care management of an intensive care patient. Conclusions: The results and recommendations will be shared after the study is completed.
Objective: To investigate the effects of using a flipped classroom model and Kahoot for intramuscular injection skill training on the knowledge, skill, and self-efficacy levels of nursing students.Methods: The quasi-experimental study was conducted with a total of 180 nursing students (intervention group n=95, control group n=85). Data were collected using a “Knowledge Level Questionnaire,” “Psychomotor Skill Control Form,” and the “General Self-Efficacy Scale”. The flipped classroom model was used in the intervention group. In addition, the multiple-choice questions in Kahoot were asked to both groups.Results: The final test knowledge scores and general self-efficacy scores of the students in the intervention group were found to be statistically higher than the students in the control group (P<.001). The psychomotor skill scores of the students in the intervention group were statistically higher than the students in the control group (P=.010). Regarding the use of Kahoot, the percentage of correct answers for each question was significantly higher for the intervention group than the control group (P<.05).Conclusion: It can be said that the flipped classroom model and Kahoot are effective in intramuscular injection training. The flipped classroom model and Kahoot could also be used for the teaching of other basic nursing skills.
Introduction: There is a need to examine the use of artificial intelligence in the branch of nursing and to investigate thecharacteristics of the research conducted in this field.Aim: The aimed was to examine the characteristics of the current knowledge structure and development process in thefield of the use of artificial intelligence in nursing.Method: In the descriptive and evaluative bibliometric analysis study, data were obtained from Web of Science database.All relevant studies conducted between 2004 and 2023 were included in the study. Data analysis was performed usingR Biblioshniy software. Two hundred seventy-three studies were included in the study.Results: The most publications (n = 86, 31.50%) were made in this field in 2022. The most productive author in the field of nursing and artificial intelligence was Topaz, Maxim. The prominent topics in the studies were "virtual reality, artificial intelligence, nursing, machine learning, simulation, nursing education, education, pain, nursing students, natural language processing, nurses, robotics, deep learning and mental health".Conclusion: There has been a significant increase in the number of studies on the use of artificial intelligence in nursingand this area offers an active field of study for nursing researchers
Objective: Falls are undesirable incidents that must be reported in hospitals. Duration of hospital stay and cost of treatment may increase due to post-fall injuries. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the incidence and risk factors of falls to prevent them. The aim of the study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors of falls. Methods: The retrospective descriptive study was conducted in one of the largest medical faculty hospitals located in the western of Türkiye. The study data of 160,119 cases of falls between 2012 and 2019 were examined retrospectively using a “Socio-demographic Information Form” and “HARIZMI” and “ITAKI” Fall Risk Scales. Results: Statistically significant differences were found between fall rates by year (p < .05). It was detected that the risk of falls in adults was 2.3 times higher than in children (95% CI: 1.86-2.89); the risk of falls in men was 1.2 times higher than in women (95% CI: 1.04-1.43), and the risk of falls in internal medicine units was 4.2 times higher than in surgical units (95% CI: 3.57-5.06). Conclusion: The falls mostly occurred in internal medicine units. The risk of falls was higher in internal medicine units than in surgical units. The risk of falls was higher in adults than in children and men than in women. Necessary precautions should be taken for adult ve men patients who are at risk of falls. Institutional procedures and flowcharts should be established to rapidly evaluate cases of falls and make the necessary interventions. Warning signs should be placed in the rooms of patients who are at risk of falling.
To identify and via bibliometric analysis visualize the studies conducted in the field of health equity and ethics. Data were obtained from the ''Web of Science Core Collection'' database. VOSviewer (1.6.15) software program was used for performance analysis, scientific mapping and bibliometric analysis. For bibliometric data, the WoS database was searched with the keywords ''Health Equality'' and ''Ethical'' and analyzed with the data of 284 publications. As a result of the analysis, the most used keywords in the Web of Science category are ''Health equity'', ''Ethics'', ''Social Justice'', ''Health Policy'', ''Equity'', ''Global Health''. The journal with the most publications (n=11 publications) is ''British Medical Journal Open''; the most articles (n=52 articles) were published in 2022; the most active institution (n=20 articles) is ''University of California System''; the country with the most publications (n=144 publications) is ''United States''; the largest funding agency (n=35 funding agencies) was the ''United States Department of Health Human Services''; and the author who published the largest number of articles (n=9 articles) was Bernard Pratt. The results of the bibliometric analysis showed that studies on equity and ethics in health have gradually increased in recent years since 2019. It is recommended to focus on the field of nursing on these issues.
This study aimed to explore the perceptions of nursing students regarding the flipped classroom and Kahoot! application used in intramuscular (IM) injection teaching. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach with 16 nursing students. Semi-structured open-ended questions was used in-depth face-to-face individual interviews. Content analysis with deductive and inductive approaches were used to analyse the data. Four main themes were generated: impact on learning, learning environment, emotions, suggestions for Kahoot/flipped classroom model. The flipped classroom model and the Kahoot application facilitated the teaching of IM injection skills to nursing students. In addition to ensuring the permanence of knowledge, facilitating learning, learning in a fun way, increasing motivation and strengthening student-teacher interaction, providing positive emotions such as self-confidence and happiness, negative emotions such as fear and stress were also experienced. Therefore, there is a need for interventions that will reduce students' grades fear and stress when using these methods.
Aim: To identify factors affecting the digital burnout levels of nursing students during the pandemic period. Method: The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 1000 nursing students. Data of the research was collected between March-April, 2021 as online survey by using “Introductory Information Form” and “Digital Burnout Scale”. In addition to descriptive statistical analyses, Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn-Bonferroni test were used for the comparison of non-normally distributed quantitative variables between more than two groups. Spearman correlational analysis was used for evaluating the relationships between quantitative variables. Statistical significance level was accepted as p < 0.05. Results: Regarding the Digital Burnout Scale scores of the students, average total scores were 2.70±0.92 (Min.=1-Max.=5, Median=2.67) for “Digital Aging” dimension, 3.17±1.06 (Min.=1-Max.=5, Median=3.33) for “Digital Deprivation” dimension and 2.76±0.93 (Min.=1.17-Max.=5, Median=2.67) for “Digital Exhaustion” dimension. Average total score of the overall scale was 2.83±0.86 (Min.=1.04-Max.=5, Median=2.79). Conclusions and Suggestions: Nursing students experienced high level of digital burnout during the pandemic. The year of study of students and the time they spend on digital environments affects the level of digital burnout. Measures should be taken to reduce digital burnout during the distance nursing education.
Objective: This study investigated the effects of psychological distress on the work ability of intensive care nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. Materials and Methods:The sample size of this descriptive and cross-sectional study was determined to be at least 220 nurses, with a level of significance of 0.05, a confidence interval of 99%, and the ability to represent the population of 80%.The research was completed with 233 nurses.A Participant Information Form, the COVID-19-related Psychological Distress Scale, and the Work Ability Index were used to collect data online using Google Forms and email or social media accounts.In the analysis of data, Pearson and Spearman correlation analysis was used along with descriptive statistics.Results: A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the nurses' length of time working in the profession and their WAI scores (r=0.132,p=0.043), and a negative correlation was found with their COVID-19 PDS scores (r=-0.162,p=0.013).A statistically significant difference was found about WAI total scores in the effect on work ability of the working conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic (p<0.001).A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the WAI total score and the COVID-19 PDS sub-section of Doubt (r=0.128,p=0.049).Conclusion: It was found that the work abilities and COVID-19 psychological distress levels of intensive care nurses living in Turkey were medium.Correlations were found between nurses' work competency and psychological distress.It is recommended that the many factors affecting work ability and psychological distress be taken under control.
