AbstractPhytochemical study of the leaves of Panax trifolius L. resulted in the isolation of two flavonoids and four ginsenosides. The two flavonoids were found to be kaempferol‐3,7‐dirhamnoside and kaempferol‐3‐gluco‐7‐rhamnoside. The four ginsenosides were identified as ginsenoside —Rd, —Rc, —Rb3 and notoginsenoside‐Fe. The common aglycones of these flavonoids and ginsenosides were shown to be kaempferol and (20S)‐protopanaxadiol, respectively.
A procedure is reported for the two-dimensional TLC separation of ginsenosides from the root of Panax trifolius L. The solvent systems and spray reagents described are useful for the identification of ginsenosides in various species of Panax. The results of the separation and identification with controls of at leas four ginsenosides from the root of P. trifolius L. are reported. The total percentage of ginsenosides was 0.0061%.
The result of the isolation and identification of 12 ergoline alkaloids from seeds of Stictocardia campanulata (Conolvolaceae); viz.: lysergol, elymoclavine, ergometrine, penniclavine, isopenniclavine, ergometrinine, isolysergol, chanoclavine–I, ergine, chanoclavine–II, α–dihydrolysergol and isoergine by using column chromatography combined with two dimensional thin layer chromatography procedures are reported.
