Four train stations of north eastern Switzerland were investigated during two years: Rorschach, St. Margrethen, Wattwil,and Wil. The complete list of vascular plants contains approximately 300 different species for each station, altogether 509 species. The plants are ecologically grouped. Typical train station species are extracted and their survival strategy is presented. Vascular plants on train stations are mainly therophytes and hemicryptophytes, which are well adapted for periodic interference by measures to combat weed.Train stations are well suited for alien plants. Some of them remain rare and adventitious, others become aggressive neophytes. Examples of rare adventitious species and aggressive neophytes are discussed.
Competition experiments have been used to evaluate rate constants for the reactions of the metal radical Rh(dmgH)2PPh3, generated by flash photolytic dissociation of alkylrhodoximes, and organic halides, which range from 1.5 × 103M−1 s−1 (CHCl3) to 4 × 106 (CHBr3. The rate constants for various polyhalomethanes can be correlated with the activation energies for their reactions with atomic sodium, and are believed to occur by similar mechanisms in which halogen atom abstraction is rate-limiting.
