Our study wants to clarify the structure of spirituality by applying existing multidimensional theories of religiosity and spirituality to in-depth interviews conducted among a sample of students. The current research analyzes 15 qualitative semi-structured interviews conducted among a sample of students at the Adventist Theological Institute in the Czech Republic and was conducted in May 2022. Since religiosity is a multidimensional phenomenon and we wished to investigate development in each dimension, we based our analyses on Glock and Stark’s model with four of their dimensions of religiosity: “belief”, “practice”, “experience”, and “knowledge”. Our study reflects on existing multidimensional religiosity/spirituality; six dimensions by Huber overlap with the religiosity/spirituality model we chose as the applied multidimensional model. As a result, based on the interviewees’ statements, we distinguished these dimensions in the context of specific conditions in the respondents’ individual personal experiences in the absence of personal group interaction. In our research, we ask the question: “What impact has the move of the entire formal and informal environment of an educational institution to an online environment had on the spirituality of each student?” An important finding is that the COVID-19 pandemic period brought about an exciting stimulus for spiritual support in theological education. The emergence of individual and independent religiosity/spirituality is a significant religious change.
Developing the all-round competences of university students by applying the principle of credit recognition for the implementation of relevant extracurricular activities (EA), case studies and recommendations for practice (e.g. in the Service Learning programme, in teacher-oriented programmes and training in the preparation of future teachers, as well as in non-formal education in parachurch organisations in the case of students of theology, etc.).The starting point is Directive No. 11/2021 on the recognition of ECTS credits for extra-curricular activities at Matej Bel University (MBU) and its implementation in practice. The paper is an output of the funded project VEGA 1/0409/21 (National Agency of the Slovak Republic). The theoretical basis is the required learning outcomes of university students in selected fields of study and their expected competences. These outcomes are compared with learning outcomes in selected educational extra-curricular activities implemented outside the university of which they are students. This is a set of case studies of selected educational programs that are not courses in higher education but have the potential to provide specifically beneficial learning outcomes for college students whose completion may also earn them credit for extra-curricular activities. We conclude with recommendations for practice regarding the comparison of learning outcomes in parallel curricular and extra-curricular activities that are expected to yield the development of transversal competencies for college students in selected fields of study.
The proposed paper introduces a modified Ling six sound audiometry test for the Slovak language and developed a web application, which enables checking the correct setting of the cochlear implant/hearing aid of pediatric patients. It can be used also to test hearing in the case of very young children before they are able to talk (one and half years old and older). Ling six sound test provides a set of six picture cards and related sounds, which cover the whole frequency spectrum of speech. The sounds are played sequentially, and the child selects the card that belongs to that sound. To localize the Ling test for Slovak patients the set of sounds and pictures were modified and tested. Several sets were evaluated and the pilot application was designed to be provided for further testing.
Výsledkom výskumu by mala byť zbierka Ježišových múdroslovných výrokov tematicky rozdelených do kategórií.
A key problem in the Roma minority’s social status in Slovakia and Central and Eastern Europe is education. Failure on all levels of the education system contributes to the socioeconomic exclusion of the Roma, leads to increased crime, and prevents members of the minority from having equal access to opportunities in the areas of employment and the fulfilment of life goals. Through analysis of successful projects and approaches, we want to outline ways Christian churches may support such projects in the interests of a society that is evolving positively and prospering.
This paper describes and discusses the process and the role of the hearing screening of children with hearing impairment in education using the interactive audiometry application that offers the easiest and most comfortable and attractive way for rapid daily (self)testing. The proposed audiometry application looks like a game that enables the effective measuring of hearing capabilities of child patients in home environment. Besides the description of the audiometry application itself, the paper is focused also on the selection of appropriate words and information about the processing of related sound stimuli. This work brings a possible scenario for daily testing using this audiometry application. It discuss also an alternative Ling 6 sound test that can effectively verify the working of a hearing aid. The information provided clearly indicates the need for regular hearing measurements to support permanent education and personal development.
The primary purpose of this research is the question of religiosity among secondary school-age Roma children attending Religious Education (RE) programs in Evangelical churches in Slovakia. This study adopted the questionnaire "Brief Multidimensional Measurement of Religiousness/Spirituality" used by the Fetzer Institute in a General Social Survey (GSS) to examine the religiosity of Roma children attending RE and not attending RE. We asked questions about their daily spiritual experiences and personal religious habits. This study revealed some variation in the values of both groups of respondents and the correlation coefficients describing the degree of relationship between them.
This study aims to describe the Pentecostal Church in Slovakia in the scope of current ecumenical cooperation and dialogue. The Apostolic Church is a member of the Union of Evangelical Churches in Slovakia, which established the Department of Theology and Christian Education (DETM) at the University of Matej Bel. Since 1994, individual churches have continued together in ecumenical cooperation in the education of their young spiritual workers. The curriculum includes academic interpretation and missiological reflection on selected parts of mission. It offers the practical efforts of the teachers and students, especially from the viewpoint of the churches' common witness in diversity. The curriculum of the study programme for theologians interprets the two mission documents Together towards Life (TTL) and The Cape Town Commitment (CTC) from a Slovakian evangelical theological view and applies it practically in context. This paper introduces DETM's educational programme in mission and ecumenism and examines how it embodies the values and concepts of those two mission documents through its activities. Special interest is focused on the topic of the practice of common witness in a spirit of partnership and cooperation.
