Thirty six hybrids of okra along with their nine parental lines in 9 x 9 half diallel fashion excluding reciprocal crosses were studied to assess the extent heterosis effects over better parent, top parent and standard check for yield and fourteen characters. The cross combinations IC 0045993 x GKOKS-4, IC 089835 x GKOKS-4, IC 0090249 x IC 0588162, IC 089835 x IC 0111484, IC 0034124 x IC 0588162 and IC 0369611 x GKOKS-4 displayed the significant positive heterosis for most of the traits in both kharif and in summer season. The crosses IC 0010256A x IC 0111484, IC 0369611 x IC 0090249, and IC 089835 x GKOKS-4 exhibited significant negative heterosis under kharif season for most of the characters and same cross combination displayed significant negative heterosis in summer season for length of inter node and first fruiting node.
An experiment entitled “Estimation of variability, heritability and genetic advance in M3 generation of natural mutant of dolichos bean” was carried out at All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetable Crops, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Dist. Ahmednagar (MS), which was conducted during the year 2018-19 with an objective to assess the genetic variability in M3 generation. The estimates of phenotypic coefficient of variation were higher than that of genotypic coefficient of variation for all the characters under study in M3 generation. High GCV and PCV were observed for vine length, number of racemes per vine, fresh pod width, number of fresh pods per vine, fresh pod yield per vine, fresh pod yield per hectare, fresh seed yield per vine and dry seed yield per vine in M3 generation indicating the higher magnitude of variability and direct selection of these traits may be advantageous in developing desirable dolichos bean genotype. The high heritability along with high genetic advance as percent of mean are exhibited by vine length, days to 50 per cent flowering, number of racemes per vine, pod setting per cent, fresh pod length, fresh pod width, number of fresh pods per vine, fresh pod shelling per cent, fresh pod yield per vine, fresh pod yield per hectare, fresh 100 seed weight, fresh seed yield per vine, dry 100 seed weight and dry seed yield per vine in M3 generation. This indicates presence of additive gene action for the expression of these traits which is fixable for next generation and selection in next population based on this character would be ideal.
A study was conducted during 2017 to 2018 and 2018 to 2019 to find out Effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilization on growth of custard apple Cv. Balanagar (Annona squamosa L.) The custard apple plants were treated with three levels of nitrogen (0,250,350 g N/plant/year), phosphorus (0,125,175 g P205/plant/year) and potassium (0,125,175 g K20/plant/year) in all possible 27 combinations was split in different growth stages, were replicated two times in Factorial Randomized Block Design. Experimental findings revealed that, plant growth was significantly influenced by applied nutrients. Plant height, plant spread E-W, plant spread S-N, plant canopy volume, leaf area and chlorophyll content showed significant improvement with the application of 350 g nitrogen, 125 g phosphorus and 125 g potassium per plant during both the years of experimentation.
The experiment was conducted on four year old pomegranate orchard in Ambia bahar at Instructional Cum Research Orchard, Arid Zone Fruit Project, Department of Horticulture, MPKV, Rahuri, Dist. Ahmednagar during 2015-16 (Trial 1) and 2016-17 (Trial 2). The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design. Observations on fruit retention, yield and quality parameters were recorded. There were eight treatments in which RDF (625:250:250 NPK g/plant) was split in different schedules. Treatment T2 i.e. scheduling of nutrient viz., 50% N, 40% P2O5 and 25% K2O as a basal application, 30% N, 25 % P2O5 and 15 % K2O at fruit set, 20% N, 25 % P2O5 and 30 % K2O at fruit development stage, 10 % P2O5 and 30 % K2O before harvest recorded significantly maximum fruit retention (88.86%), yield (26.78 kg/plant), average weight of fruit (312.62g), aril percentage (61.34 %) and TSS (15.68 oBrix).
