A study into the mechanisms of mesolevel fragmentation in a plastically deformed surface-hardened chromium steel is summarized. A hierarchy of sublevels associated with the formation of variously scaled fragments and deformation domains is shown to exist within the mesolevel. The self-organization of the deformation mechanisms in the hierarchy of mesoscopic sublevels is found to obey the law of similitude.
An experimental investigation is made of plastic deformation of a ribbon of amorphous alloy Fe 40 Ni 40 B 20 during tension up to 2%. By analysis of the displacement field on the surface of specimens, it is established that plastic deformation in the alloy is in the form of a wave with shear and rotational components. Its parameters are determined and an interpretation is offered
