Monopile foundations for offshore wind turbines have a market share of 81.2 %. There is actual a tendency noticeable to change the installation method from impact driving to vibrator driving. The vibro driving covers cost reduction potentials related to the needed installation time as well as related to the needed noise mitigation effort. Within this article for the innovative vibro driving the expected stress level and the governing parameters impacting the stress level within the steel will be defined. The effects like during changing the axial stiffness properties of soil-pile interaction will be presented in a general form and specific for the working range of the vibro hammer. The fatigue verification method, the stress level as well as the utilization ration will be analyzed.
Driven flange connection of monopile foundations – FE‐based sensitivity analysis compared to survey results during the installation. In analogy to conventional connections of turbine towers, a trend towards flanged connections between the monopile substructures and the transition pieces can be currently observed in monopile foundations of offshore wind turbines. The predominant installation technique for the monopile substructures will most probably be with conventional impact driving. The load transfer between the hydraulic hammer and the pile is achieved by direct contact on top of the pile. For this temporary condition of pile driving, the verification of the monopile‐sided flange and its connection to the monopile is very critical. As part of this paper, the calculation results are compared to the actual measured and surveyed results. Furthermore, a correlation between the resulting stresses and maximal contact widths between anvil and flange is interpreted. The results presented in this paper open a path for instantaneous accompanying monitoring and quality control of the impact driven flange, removing much of the uncertainties.

The current trend in monopile foundations for offshore wind turbines is to use a flanged connection between the monopile and the transition piece. This trend is analogous to the conventional installation of different tower sections for the wind turbines. The monopile installation continues to be done using impact driving, in which the load transfer between the hydraulic hammer and the pile is achieved by direct contact on the top of the monopile flange. For this temporary state of construction, the verification of the monopile's flange and its connection to the rest of the monopile is of particular importance. This article addresses the calculation assumptions, the stress determination methods, the material sided resistances and the verification methods. It further presents the norms and guideline differences in the determination of material sided resistance, particularly in the fatigue assessment. The specifics for determining or choosing the imperfections in the contact elements of the impact driving are discussed as well. The stress levels on a perfect system are compared to a system, in which the tolerances are modeled. In this article, particular attention is paid to the Specifics in the verification of the Ultimate Limit State (ULS), the Fatigue Limit State (FLS) and the differentiation between the two situations. Finally, instructions for the stress determination and the assessment are compiled.
