With clear objectives in mind, the exploration delves into the impact of key digital technologies on responsible supply chain practices. The discussion spans the utilization of the internet of things (IoT) for real-time sustainability monitoring, big data analytics for informed decision-making, and the integration of robotics to enhance ethical manufacturing.
Disorders, stress-related conditions, and mental health problems are major issues in our societies, often difficult to handle by individuals. Meanwhile, there is a necessary need for solutions to related issues. Solutions that can facilitate the development of positive mental well-being habits and provide environments to users looking for help. This paper aims to explore and examine potential solutions by employing a deliberate framework known as “The Wheel of Sukr”. This framework serves as a guide for the developmental process, directing it toward the objectives outlined in this paper and the creation of a prototype application. The prototype leverages machine learning and gamification features to predict user needs in terms of mental health issues and create an immersive daily engagement environment. A prototype is developed with features such as mood tracking, avatar companions, and monthly reports to create awareness of mental health and well-being practices tailored to users’ personalities. Nevertheless, we recognize specific challenges and constraints, particularly the lack of adequate atomization. These obstacles can be systematically addressed and improved through subsequent comprehensive studies and ongoing research endeavors in the future.
The elderly community has their particular needs and challenges with different routines. In the care institution, the elderly demand reliable medication services because of geriatric issues. However, the fact is medicine mismanagement potentially troubles them in terms of accidental and overdosed medicine intake. Also, any act of forgetting or delay in medicine delivery by the caregivers or family members would impact the medication safety of the elderly. This paper aims to propose a Medication Management System (MMS) to regulate medication mismanagement and automate medicine restocking processes using the drone. In this case, the researchers proposed a design of medicine case powered by Internet of Things (IoT), which assists multi-user medication at the institutional level. For the medicine restocking purpose, the drone is used as in the pinpoint delivery approach to reload medicine once it runs out of usage from elderly residents. Hence, MMS reinforces medication management and automates the medicine delivery in the elderly centres. Consequently, the proposed system contributes to the adoption of the latest IoT technologies for the elderly community.
Ontology matching is a rapidly emerging topic crucial for semantic web effort, data integration, and interoperability. Semantic heterogeneity is one of the most challenging aspects of ontology matching. Consequently, background knowledge (BK) resources are utilized to bridge the semantic gap between the ontologies. Generic BK approaches use a single matcher to discover correspondences between entities from different ontologies. However, the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI) results show that not all matchers identify the same correct mappings. Moreover, none of the matchers can obtain good results across all matching tasks. This study proposes a novel BK multimatcher approach for improving ontology matching by effectively generating and combining mappings from biomedical ontologies. Aggregation strategies to create more effective mappings are discussed. Then, a matcher path confidence measure that helps select the most promising paths using the final mapping selection algorithm is proposed. The proposed model performance is tested using the Anatomy and Large Biomed tracks offered by the OAEI 2020. Results show that higher recall levels have been obtained. Moreover, the F-measure values achieved with our model are comparable with those obtained by the state of the art matchers.
Knowledge is a key asset for an organisation. Knowledge management has facilitated the capture and dissemination of knowledge in an organisation. Knowledge capture and dissemination is facilitated by a specialised system called a knowledge intensive system. In turn, knowledge workers can benefit from the knowledge within the system which would improve their performance and the organisation as well. Despite knowledge management being important to an organisation, there is always room for improvement in particular the areas of knowledge quality. Knowledge quality focuses on ensuring that the knowledge is relevant, useful and accurate. Knowledge as it is known is contextual and it must be relevant else it is rendered unusable. Therefore, a knowledge intensive system must have quality control to ensure high quality knowledge is present in the system. Knowledge intensive system itself is a subdomain in information systems. In this study, we provide a comprehensive literature review surrounding knowledge management, knowledge quality and knowledge intensive systems. A review on recent literature, challenges and research gap were identified based on current literature on the subject matter. The study also discusses two existing models based on knowledge quality which are Jennex and Olfman knowledge management Success model and, value-justice model of knowledge integration. These two models are then compared with the proposed model called the Knowledge Quality Model for Knowledge Intensive System. The model is conceived to address the research gaps that was identified in the literature. The main focus of the model is on knowledge context and knowledge quality attributes is imbued to ensure context is present. This is to ensure that knowledge is reliable, relevant, applicable and contextual to the knowledge workers.
The process of collecting aged care information from outside parties for opinions has been important for improvement within the healthcare industry. Traditional methods in current community health assessment and review has caused many issues in different aspects. CHARM (Community Health Assessment & Review on Mobile) is created to digitalize the process of collecting responses from the elderly group by utilizing volunteer's mobile devices. With a client-server web-application and an Android mobile application, CHARM sets out to reduce the issues faced by the traditional methods while increasing productivity in data collection regarding aged care, while including some distinctive features to benefit its users. The development process of CHARM uses GitLab as its version control manager, .NET for the web development framework and has did a comparison review with Google Form. By using Agile methodology within the implementation process, this study applies real-time communication, have face-to-face interactions with the client to have a better understanding of the requirements and get constructive feedbacks for the deliverables.
The emergence of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has created a significant interest from the higher education institutions. The purpose of this study is to explore the lecturers’ perceptions toward using MOOCs as their teaching method based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This research explores how the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use affect the actual use of MOOCs for teaching. Qualitative research has been conducted to investigate the perception of lecturers in using MOOCs. Findings have revealed the main concern of lecturers toward using MOOCs as a teaching tool and how MOOCs can be redesigned to achieve greater social impact. The study has laid a valuable foundation of knowledge on the current state of MOOCs in higher education, especially in the MOOC design and implementation.
MOOC has progressively obtained its popularity in the past few years and it showed a big movement in higher education in Malaysia. With the emergence of MOOCs, the educational world is becoming flat and classrooms can now be borderless. The main objective for this study is to explore the learning process and perception of students in using MOOC as part of their module and to identify issues faced when using MOOC. The researchers are also interested to find the importance of teacher's presence in the MOOC environment. The 4-stage online presence (4-SOP) model was used as a theoretical framework to develop the focus group question and as an explorative investigation to student's acceptance of learning in a MOOC. A follow up research using questionnaire was used to investigate student's perceptions of MOOC and the importance of teacher presence on the MOOC provided by the university. This study involves a total of 66 students. Results have indicated that teaching presence, training and support, interesting learning contents, consistent feedback and interaction among facilitators are crucial to sustain the engagement of students in using the online technologies. Lastly, the objectives and benefits of MOOCs should be clarified before students start to use MOOCs so that the students can achieve their learning goals easily.
Massive open online course (MOOCs) are transforming the era of distance learning education in a groundbreaking way that it has attracted a huge amount of attention from the media, education institutions, and education professionals. The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of courses delivered using MOOCs in Taylor’s University. The Kirkpatrick’s four levels of evaluation learning model were adapted to measure the effectiveness of MOOCs. A descriptive survey of 250 learners was conducted. The study indicated that comprehensive study materials in MOOCs are useful for the learners as future reference. MOOCs are effective in the sense that it helps learners to understand a certain topic and apply it in real life. The program has met the learners’ expectations, and they will strongly recommend the course to other people. Nevertheless, learners think that the study materials are sufficient for beginners, but advanced course is needed to meet their future job expectation. This study focuses on MOOCs in OpenLearning platform only. In the future, research can be expanded to focus on different MOOC platforms besides OpenLearning. Lastly, with the result obtained in this research, it will be able to contribute to the community of MOOC and institutions that plan to introduce MOOCs.
Collaborative classroom has started to replace traditional classroom in education. Flexible learning space promotes an engaging, active and learner friendly learning environment. There are many discussions about their design, architecture, effectiveness and acceptance to the students and lecturers. It is undeniable that collaborative learning space is able to support various types of learning styles of students. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that affect students’ acceptance and usage of X-Space based on the Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) model. Data were collected from 370 students from five schools of the Foundation Programme. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was employed to analyse the data. This study focused on Foundation students, and the result should not be used for generalization. In the future, research can be expanded to focus on degree and postgraduate students. Lastly, with the result obtained in this research, it contributes to universities and institutions that plan to introduce and implement similar collaborative classroom facilities. This research can be used as a guide for them to design and implement technologies-rich collaborative classroom.
Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) assumes that consumers interpret persuasive messages by applying central and peripheral routes in a particular environment. Companies are trying to maximize the potential of social media in their marketing communication strategies. This study aims to conceptualize persuasive messages using ELM in a social media perspective, propose a conceptual framework, and systematically review and analyze extant theories and models pertinent to persuasive communications. ELM is considered a feasible and useful approach to elucidate the persuasive information process by consumers in the social media context. Findings revealed that there were an increasing number of studies using ELM in the social media context. The authors believed that this study shed light on further potential studies in ELM in the social media environment. The proposed conceptual framework underlined critical constructs and parameters of information processing so that marketers could formulate effective communication strategies in the social media environment.
With the pervasive take-up and presence of digital technologies, learning management system (LMS) is popular for its open accessibility and its interactive nature. Implementation of LMS has become part of the strategic plan in higher education institution to enhance the flexibility in teaching and learning. It is essential to explore the perceptions of users in using the LMS in order to inform stakeholders the positive influencing aspects and improve the negative factors in the future. This study investigates the perception of lecturers in using LMS in term of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use for teaching purposes. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is used as the research framework to design the questionnaire. An online questionnaire was created to address the research questions. The results reveal that lecturers do not react positively towards perceived ease of use of Moodle for teaching. Lecturers treat Moodle as content repository and do not fully utilize the interactive features in Moodle. It was found that usability issues, interaction and communication issues had a negative impact on the lecturers' perception.
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the use of wiki for the development of critical thinking skills of students in higher education. This study seeks to explore the learning experiences of students in utilizing wiki to facilitate the development of critical thinking skills. Wiki was introduced to 19 postgraduate students taking the “Studying at Masters Level and Research Methods” module in one of the post-1992 university in the United Kingdom. They used the designed wiki as a learning tool and their responses towards wiki were explored based on the discussions and interaction in the wiki pages. At the end of the term, questionnaires and a focus group were used to collect their perceptions. The results show that critical thinking happens during the individual construction of knowledge when they reflect on and evaluate information. However, students did not always show their critical and analytical skills in collaborating and discussing in the wiki due to the low level of interaction.
The paper explores how computer mediated communication can be used to effectively promote critical thinking skills among online learners in higher education. Critical thinking is a process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing and constructing information to become one's own knowledge. The effective use of a new technology needs to be related to how learners learn. This paper attempts to examine the learning theory underlying computer mediated communication and discusses cognitivism, collaborative learning, constructivism and situated learning. The latest technologies in computer mediated communication are investigated further by identifying the potential as learning tools. The definition of internalization may throw light on the key question of this study. Finally, we conceptualize the idea that computer mediated communication could promote critical thinking among, learners through internalization within a community of learners.
