The Committee on Developments in Business Financing was created only last fall. Because of the wide geographical distribution of its members, it has been feasible to have meetings only of those in the New York area in the autumn and again this spring. The various members, however, have through correspondence and suggestions kept in touch with the plans and work of the committee. The principal fruit of the year's work is the article by the committee's member Mr. Warner H. Mendel, on "Recent Financing Patterns and Their Derivation," which is being published in The Business Lawyer and on certain phases of which he is to speak as the committee's representative as a part of the Section's program at the annual meeting in Dallas in August. As is so well shown, financing patterns generally evolve, not on an a priori basis, but to satisfy the needs of the times and in response to existing stimuli. The article appropriately reflects the importance of the "current" and the "practical" in the field of this committee, and gives several noteworthy and detailed examples of recently developed financing patterns. The committee has been most fortunate in having Mr. Mendel take the lead in preparing this initial article, which can well serve as a report of its work during the past year. The committee will continue to welcome the suggestions of lawyers in the field of its activity. Comments on significant developments or new methods or techniques in business financing are cordially invited.

Researchers at the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, CAMI, recently upgraded four advanced facilities that will positively affect aviation safety in the years to come. Van Gowdy Impact Facility T he facility features a computer-operated sled on a 110-foot track that runs more efficiently, at higher acceleration levels, and with a higher payload capacity than the track it replaces, allowing CAMI researchers to obtain data that will eventually help passengers and crew survive commercial aircraft accidents. The main research application is to improve the crash safety provided by existing and proposed aircraft seats and restraint system configurations and materials. Impact tests are conducted using an accelerator-type sled system. Test specimens are mounted on a sled that is propelled along precision rails by a pneumatic cylinder and controlled by a servo hydraulic brake system. This system can accurately reproduce the high frequency/high G accelerations that occur during survivable aircraft crashes. Any impact vector can be replicated by adjusting the orientation of the test article on the sled. This new impact test facility was named in honor of the late Van Gowdy, a long-time CAMI impact sled engineer. The facility was dedicated in Nov. 2014. During impact tests, the seats are occupied by instrumented anthro-pometric test dummies ranging in size from a 1-year-old child to a 95 th percentile male. Accelerations, forces, and deflections are precisely measured during a test, recorded on a multi-channel, high-speed data acquisition system, and evaluated to determine the risk of injury. The impact facility became fully operational in June of 2014. CAMI researchers gave an impact test demonstration during the November 2014 dedication ceremony and open house. The seats are occupied by instrumented anthropometric test dummies; the resulting data are analyzed to determine the risk of injury to the occupants. iv Flexible Aircraft Simulator T he second new research facility now operational is the Flexible Aircraft Simulator, or FlexSim. Its mission is to provide simulations of single-aisle transport category airplanes (airliners) with seating for up to 120 passengers. SUMMARY Pvs25 is an ookinete surface protein from Plasmodium vivax that is the target of transmission‐blocking antibodies. Two immunogenicity trials in rhesus monkeys with a recombinant form of the protein, Pvs25H, were undertaken. Monkeys were vaccinated with Pvs25H adsorbed to Alhydrogel or emulsified in Montanide ISA 720 at 0, 4 and 27 weeks (study 1) or in Montanide ISA 720 at 0 and 18 weeks (study 2) with 1·5 or 15 µg Pvs25H in 0·1 or 0·5 mL of emulsion (four combinations). Immunogenicity was assessed by ELISA and by membrane‐feeding experiments using P. vivax‐infected blood from human volunteers (studies 1 and 2) or from chimpanzees (study 1). Both vaccine trials generated antibodies that blocked transmission of P. vivax to mosquitoes. Antibody titres and transmission blocking were higher with Montanide ISA 720 than with Alhydrogel in the first trial and with the 15 µg Pvs25H/0·5 mL ISA 720 combination in the second trial.

: A historical, largely photographic retrospective is presented in recognition of the 1000th published report emanating from the FAA aeromedical research center officially established as the Civil Aeromedical Research Institute (CARI) in August 1960. The publications include 57 CARI reports (1961-1963), 1 CARI technical publication (1963), and 942 reports (1964-present) under the aegis of the (now) Office of Aerospace Medicine (OAM). The retrospective includes an historical section on the early development of civil aeromedical research. Additional, theme-related sections provide an indication of some of the varied research contributions and safety achievements of the Institute and cite some of the many individuals who contributed to the Institute's accomplishments.
