The 58,62,64Ni(d, p) stripping reactions have been studied up to a high excitation energy at an incident deuteron energy of Ed = 2.9MeV. The spectroscopic factors (2J+1)S for some excited states differ from those measured at an incident deuteron energy above the Coulomb barrier. For high excited states these anomalies can be explained by the wrong assignment of ln in previous investigations. For low-lying levels of the residual nuclei, the proton energy exceeds the Coulomb barrier and the anomalies observed are apparently due to multistep stripping.
