The Belt and Road Initiative was proposed by China in 2013 as a response to sluggish global economic growth. With most countries along the Belt and Road being developing countries, it is crucial to strengthen trade cooperation in agricultural products. However, the current literature lacks an analysis of the competitiveness and complementarity of agricultural products in these countries. This study aims to fill this gap by showing that the Belt and Road Initiative has reduced agricultural export competitiveness and increased agricultural trade complementarity. Several factors influence the similarity and complementarity of agricultural exports in participating countries along the Belt and Road, including geographical distance, level of economic development, free trade agreements, degree of country openness, exchange rates, cultural differences, share of agricultural value added, and level of infrastructure. The detailed analysis shows that the Belt and Road Initiative has significantly improved the quality of the agricultural exports of participating countries. The results of this paper provide a theoretical basis for the high-quality development of agricultural products in participating countries along the Belt and Road.
Ensuring sustainable levels of rice yield has become a significant concern in recent years. To improve yields in rice production, it is essential to increase factor inputs and productivity. However, current research primarily focuses on general grain productivity, rather than rice. In this study, utilize the DEA-Malmquist index to present a comprehensive temporal and spatial analysis of rice productivity and its determinants in China. Our findings reveal that the overall efficiency of rice production in China exhibits a fluctuating upward trend, with technological progress being the primary driver of improvement in production efficiency. Moreover, rice production efficiency demonstrates a distribution pattern that decreases from east to west, with resource endowment, production conditions, socioeconomic development levels, and the political system being crucial factors influencing efficiency. This study proposes novel ideas for structural adjustments and regional divisions within China's rice industry and provides a theoretical foundation for governments to develop evidence-based policies.
Increased environmental pollution and energy consumption caused by the country’s rapid development has raised considerable public concern, and has become the focus of the government and public. This study employs the super-efficiency slack-based model–data envelopment analysis (SBM–DEA) to measure the total factor energy efficiency of 30 provinces in China. The estimation model for the spatial interaction intensity of regional total factor energy efficiency is based on Wilson’s maximum entropy model. The model is used to analyze the factors that affect the potential value of total factor energy efficiency using spatial dynamic panel data for 30 provinces during 2000–2014. The study found that there are differences and spatial correlations of energy efficiency among provinces and regions in China. The energy efficiency in the eastern, central, and western regions fluctuated significantly, and was mainly because of significant energy efficiency impacts on influences of industrial structure, energy intensity, and technological progress. This research is of great significance to China’s energy efficiency and regional coordinated development.
Based on Panel VAR model, this paper studies the effectiveness of regional monetary policy from two perspectives-the price effect and the output effect. Empirical results indicate that,in the price effect, the middle regional monetary has the most obvious effect on inflation, the western region is less, and the eastern region is the least; in the output effect, the eastern region has the largest effect, the middle region is less, and the western is the worst. Furthermore, all regions have one and half year time lag of response of inflation to monetary policy. Therefore,The central bank should not only take action to narrow gaps between different districts when making monetary policy to enhance the effectiveness of monetary policies, but also improve the prospective of monetary policy to strengthen predictability, pertinence and effectiveness of macro-control.
