The choice of trip mode depends on travel cost. The travel cost is crucial for travel demand management. With traffic problems such as traffic congestion emerging, the component and calculation of travel cost becomes more complex. The purpose of this study is to develop a model to estimate the travel cost of private cars in metropolitan areas with consideration to traffic congestion. We use Beijing as a case study to calculate the changed cost due to traffic congestion. The results indicate that when there is no congestion, the average travel cost of a private car is 7.42 ¥/veh·km and the proportion of external cost is about one-third. However, when the speed of road reduces to 25km/h and traffic congestion appears, the average travel cost is 11.86 ¥/veh·km, and the proportion of external cost is nearly half.
Advances in mobility are clearly illustrated by the rapid development of urbanization and motorization in developing countries. Following the dramatic incensement of traffic demand, the parking problem has been becoming much more seriously important in many metropolises. With the aim of seeking solutions as to how the parking system could operate more efficiently by using new technologies and new methodologies, this paper discusses the application of geographic information system into the parking planning and management for traffic operation effectiveness in metropolis. The concentration of this paper includes the characteristics of parking demand and the causations of parking problems, especially the basic parking principle and strategies for solving parking problems from the perspective of geographic information system are discussed in enough detail in this paper.
The rapid development of the social economy strongly promotes the urbanization and motorization.Meanwhile, parking problems become serious due to the long-term imbalance between parking demands and facility constructions. Thus there is an increasing urgency in finding solutions for parking problems.Based on the methodology framework of geographic information system(GIS),the metropolis parking problems are discussed in this paper. The characteristics of parking demand and the reasons for parking problems are investigated in detail. Then, the basic parking principle and strategies for solving parking problems are suggested with the example of Beijing. The results are hoped to improve the parking environment in metropolis.
In this paper, traffic organization and management decision support system model and a detailed analysis of the system's structure and function are proposed based on geographic information system (GIS). This system is used to provide services for decision-making in traffic organization and management of large-scale event. Through comparing the various organization programs and outputting the result in the form of data or images, it can provide decision-making basis to decision-makers. The application in the 60th National Day celebration in Beijing, China, shows a perfect performance and verified the rationality of design.
Based on lane positional information, vehicle parameters, and driver intent, the identification of dangerous area within vehicles operation is proposed in this paper. The criticality of the situation calculated by sparse Bayesian learning methodology is not a certain value, but the probability. Therefore, the method can forecast the effects of the uncertain parameters on the dangerous spacing in the vehicle driving process. Analysis of the data for driver behavior is performed using a sparse Bayesian learning methodology. Quantitative results and analysis of the experimental trials are presented to show the feasibility and promise of this identification method of minimum dangerous area. The objective of this paper is to lay a necessary foundation for the future intelligent advanced driver-assistance systems.
