I studied Biological Sciences at the University of Navarra (Spain) from 1999 to 2003, and subsequently obtained a Master's Degree in Climate Risks and Environmental Impact at the Complutense University (Spain) in 2004. In 2005, and after a 5-month stay as assistant research at the Finnish Forest Research Institute in Kolari (Finland), under the supervision of Dr. Kauhanen, I began my doctoral studies at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (Spain), under the supervision of Dr. Agustí. During my PhD, financed after a selective process by the Government of the Balearic Islands, I analyzed the effects of persistent organic pollutants (POP) and trace metals (Cd, Pb, Hg, Zn) on marine phytoplankton. In 2012 I obtained a postdoctoral fellowship from the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq #401214/2012-5) to analyze the biochemical and physiological effects of trace metals (Cu and Cd) on freshwater phytoplankton. This postdoc was carried out at the Federal University of São Carlos under the supervision of Dr. Lombardi. At the end of 2014 I began to investigate the role of trace metals (Fe and Cu) in the composition and distribution of the phytoplankton of the Humboldt Current (HCS) at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. This project, sponsored by the National Council of Science and Technology of Chile (Fondecyt #3150507) under the supervision of Dr. von Dassow. Subsequently, I worked as an assistant professor at the University of Antofagasta (Chile) analyzing the role of Fe limitation in the HCS, as well as the impact of various contaminants on the microbial communities of the HCS, being the academic coordinator of the Oceanography subjects. and Plankton Ecology from the Marine Biology major, and from the subjects of Dynamic Processes in Aquatic Bodies and Topics in Oceanography from the Master's Degree in Ecology of Aquatic Systems. I am currently working as a María Zambrano researcher in the Department of Biology of the University of the Balearic Islands, analyzing the biotic and abiotic factors that cause microalgae blooms, as well as the impact of new emerging pollutants on marine microbial communities.
