The research interests of Luc Piraux research team concern the controlled synthesis of nanostructured materials with defined complex architectures (such as 3D-nanowire networks) and the investigation of their physical properties. Special attention is given to the ability to tailor desired properties by choosing suitable multicomponent nanomaterials and nanoscale architectures. The team has strong expertise in the fabrication of arrays of nanowires, nanotubes, core-shell and multilayers grown by electro-deposition in nanoporous media and in the fabrication of highly ordered anodic aluminium oxide nanoporous templates. Current research activites are in the field of spintronics, nanomagnetism, thermoelectricity, 3D interconnected nanowire networks, spin-caloritronics, multiferroic nanocomposites, micro-battery electrodes, hybrid organic-inorganic nanostructures, metal oxide nanowires, superconductivity at the nanoscale, smart surfaces and development of microwave devices and various sensors.
