Bio
Alessandra Monerris received the B.E. degree in Telecommunication from the Universitat Politècnica de València, València, Spain, and the Ph.D. degree from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. In 2006, she was a visiting Ph.D. Student at the Università Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy.
From 2007 to 2011, she was Executive Director of SMOS-BEC, the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity mission expert centre in Barcelona, Spain. From 2011 to 2016 she is was a Research Fellow at the Department of Civil Engineering from Monash University, Australia, and is currently an honorary principal Research Fellow at the Department of Infrastructure Engineering of the University of Melbourne. Dr Monerris has extensive experience in the preparation and coordination of field experiments for the validation of soil moisture satellite data, both for ESA’s SMOS and NASA’s SMAP missions. Between 2012 and 2015, she was responsible of the OzNet soil moisture monitoring network in the Murrumbidgee River Catchment, and manager of the cosmic ray probe system from the CosmOz network in Yanco, NSW, Australia. Since 2013, Dr Monerris has also been leading the Australian field experiments for soil moisture estimation combining L-band microwave radiometry and GNSS reflectometry (GELOz).
Her research interests deal with the estimation of soil moisture and vegetation parameters from airborne and ground-based L-band passive microwave observations, validation of satellite soil moisture and vegetation products, cosmic-ray probes, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems Reflectometry (GNSS-R).
