My thesis was focused on leaf-litter decomposition processes in headwater streams. I have measured the natural variability and seasonality of this ecosystem process at different spatial scales and some related variables: associated fungal decomposers (aquatic hyphomycetes) and stoichiometry (CNP). I have assessed the effect of water nutrient enrichment and river regulation on these processes. I have a broad experience in litter breakdown experiments in streams and on microbial decomposers communities studies. My present research deal with the aquatic hyphomycete role on stream leaf-litter processing and their responses to water temperature and trophic status. Lately, as member of the coordination team of GLoBE network (www.globenetwork.es), the spatial scale of my research has notably increased.
