My research focuses on cellular metabolism, lysosomal biology and understanding how nutrient uptake and processing contributes to cancer progression. I am currently investigating the pathogenesis and disease progression of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). TSC is an autosomal dominant disease that affects multiple organ systems, including the kidney, brain, heart, skin and lung. Biallelic loss of TSC1/2 leads to mTORC1 hyperactivation which enhances protein translation via downstream targets of mTORC1. I have discovered that nutrient uptake in TSC is mediated by macropinocytosis and processing at the lysosome. I aim to develop new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of TSC patients by employing high-throughput drug screening and therapeutic targeting nutrient uptake pathways.
