个人简介
I conduct research in ecology, ecosystem science, and environmental engineering in support of water quality protection and restoration. I have formal training in systems ecology, plant physiological ecology, and biogeochemistry. I currently work as an Ecologist and Principal Investigator for the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Watershed and Ecosystem Characterization Division. I also serve as an Output Lead for the USEPA’s Safe and Sustainable Water Resources National Research Program. I have led or am currently leading research that focuses on ecological structure and function interactions in response to anthropogenic stressors and natural disturbances in aquatic ecosystems and across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. My work provides science-based solutions to water quality stakeholders and water resource professionals in support of decisions on how to manage anthropogenic activities threatening our Nation’s water resources and within a whole-system, watershed-scale context. Through my research, I seek to maximize the ecological integrity of aquatic ecosystems and the supporting services they provide to public health. My specific research focuses on using mesocosm experiments, working wetlands, watershed monitoring and evaluating ecologic and hydrologic models for better water quality management, with attention paid to carbon and nutrient cycles. My career goal is to help provide sound science that helps support environmental management policies at multiple levels of governance. I serve local governance officials, learn from and apply case-study results, and use this experiential knowledge to educate and support Local, State and National-scale policies related to water quality.
