Adrian Alegre

Dr Adrián Alegre is Professor of Medicine (Hematology) at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain) and Head of the Hematology and Hemotherapy Department at the Hospital Universitario de la Princesa in Madrid. Dr Alegre also works part-time as Associated Head of the Hematology and Transfusión Department at the Hospital Universitario Quironsalud in Madrid. Dr A Alegre received his medical degree, specialization as Haematologist and Doctorate at the Universidad of Salamanca (Spain) in 1986, and completed his residence at the Royal Infirmary Hospital in Edimburgh (Scotland-UK). Dr A Alegre is member of numerous scientific societies and scientific groups (ASH, EHA, EBMT, ISBT, AABB, IMS, SEHH, SETS, SETH..) and was founder member of the Spanish Myeloma Group (GEM- PETHEMA). He has also been Secretary of the Spanish Hematopoietic Transplant Group (GETH) and present coordinator of the GETH-Myeloma group. Was founder of the spanish Fundación Leucemia y Linfoma, being the current President since 2015. Dr A Alegre has been also President of the Madrid ́s Association of Hematology since 2014 to 2018 and President of the Spanish Hematology Comission at the Spanish Government Ministry of Health since 2007 to 2014. He has completed several master in hospital and clinical management including Spanish IESE Programme on Health Institutions. His main fields of interest include medical education, health institutitons management along with the biology and treatment of haematological neoplasias with special interest in plasma cell disease as multiple myeloma and also cellular therapy, hematopoietic transplantation, and transfusion medicine. Dr A Alegre has been author or co-author of more than 170 high impact-peer reviewed articles in these fields, numerous international conference abstracts and more than 80 text-books chapter focused in haematological neoplasias. He has also participated as principal investigator in more than 120 relevant international clinical trials testing new drugs in hematology, mainly in multiple myeloma. Dr A Alegre was the president o LVI Hematology Spanish Congress-SEHH held in Madrid in 2014 and also was de local representative and organizer of the Scientific Committee-at the 22nd EHA Conference held in Madrid 22-25 June 2014, chairing the Educational Myeloma Session.
